[Trade] Canucks trade Bo Horvat to Islanders for Anthony Beauvillier, Aatu Raty, 2023 1st-round draft pick

I hope Horvat tests free agency. Not to screw the Islanders or make our ‘win’ more satisfying. Because he genuinely seems like good person with a solid moral compass. Husband, father, go ahead and get a dozen offers in the summer and pick the best one for you and your wife. Godspeed Bo

It’s been suggested that if the Islanders can’t re-sign Horvat by the deadline. They’d likely move him, so they’ll get at least some value back.

A lot of speculation but not a lot of meat on that bone.  I think it's easy for us to sit in armchairs and complain like half the world complains about politics, but there's so much that happens outside of the public eye that we have to give a little faith that someone actually made it into the office and made a few calls.

I don’t know I just find the timing of the trade seems a bit sus because how long they are off for + the all star break. Where most the gm would gather

This just shows again how much this  trade hurt the team.

Is that a wad of 1000 dollar bills in his pocket?

yes, that would hurt to sit on :)

Look at this from a year ago (2021) post draft explaining why Raty fell from a very high expected draft position to 52 OA

It's pretty interesting but before any of you start jumping off bridges, this video was made BEFORE Raty's D+1 year where he went 13-27-40 +26 in 41 games in the Liiga.  He has made adjustments and is leaning more towards a draft steal.

Too funny. I was just about to post a Raty video as well.

Isles currently have 30 games left in the season.

To just squeak into the playoffs they’ll realistically need 96 points based on past Eastern Conference standings.

That means they’d have to go something like 19-8-3.

That’s a points % of .683. Only three teams in the entire league currently have a points percentage higher than that.

Lou ain’t stupid he knows it’s a long shot. Is this all about saving his job and planning for next season? Or is the plan to just flip Bo at the deadline and try and get better assets back?

Doubt it.  Don't forget what happened at the draft last year when it was leaked that Lou was interested in Miller.  The deal was scrubbed and all of a sudden he traded his 1st for Romanov.

Lou wanted a centre back then and has revisited Vancouver to fill that hole.  Lou is a vindictive SOB when he is crossed, he'll cancel a deal that he really wanted to make out of spite.

So giving up your best prospect and a 1st is all about spite??

The cap really limits most teams though.  I'm sure most teams would love him on their team but can't afford him.  Vancouver's one of them.

I mean, this could very well be realistic if the team loses too much ground to make up for the postseason. Bo will help them, but I'm not sure how much he will help. Also, if Lou gets the sense that Bo and his camp won't sign long term with the Islanders, then I think he does get traded again

See my post above.

They’d have to play at a better clip than every team but Boston, New Jersey, and Carolina have this season.

They ain’t making it.

Tryamkin?

Oh gosh. It's been such a long time.  That ship has sailed a long time ago. Time to move on. He's big, and if he were any good, he would have had a ton of interest from other teams. The reality and truth is that there are far better defensemen in the NHL that are far smaller in stature than Tryamkin. Just because you're big, doesn't mean you're automatically good. Gotta have talent to go with all that physical size, if not, then it's a case of a player that's big for nothing. Tryamkin's skill is a dime a dozen. We can find better defensemen elsewhere.

Wouldn't count them out just yet. Like you say, they have 30 games to go. Stranger things have happened. They could very well sneak into the postseason.

Was Räty the Isle's best prospect in their system?

Pretty much every ranking I’ve seen had him number 1.

They don’t have a very good prospect pool so there isn’t much competition though. Samuel Bolduc might be the only one to challenge.

19-8-3 to get to 96 and even that might not be enough.

I mean any team could sneak in sure. But they’ve gotta beat out the Caps, Pens, Panthers, and Sabres. Even the Sens are right there with them if they won their two games in hand.

It’s an extremely long shot.
