[Trade] Canucks trade Bo Horvat to Islanders for Anthony Beauvillier, Aatu Raty, 2023 1st-round draft pick

Recommended Posts

I think if NYI lands anywhere between 10-16 (draft position), they will give the pick to Canucks.  If NYI actually wins the lottery, they can only move up 10 spots.  So that would be in the range of 1-6 (depending on where they finish off in the season).  Then NYI will keep the pick and Canucks would get the unprotected 2024 pick.

So Bo will see playoff hockey his rookie season and the covid bubble and that’s it through his career as islanders are old declining and prob won’t be able to move Bo’s massive contract well they fall apart over the next 2/3 years trying to make it …..yikes

NYI can still get in.

2nd wildcard spot is Washington at .554 with 62pts in 56 games.

NYI is .535 with 61pts in 57 games.  That's not all that far away.  Buffalo and Detroit also in the battle with NYI.

washington is prolly done with ovi gone for at least couple of weeks likely with the death of his father.. getting in and out of russia itself is a headache seeing how there's no direct flight so it would prolly take him couple days just to get back to russia deal with his father and then get back to north america.

They could but they have a tough schedule coming up these next dozen games as 10 are against playoff teams and 2 are against bubble teams they are fighting for those final 2 spots… math tells me they will have to go 9-3 in that Span to stay afloat since they have 6 games against the teams there competing with for the wildcard spots (buf, det, pit, wsh)

As much as I want the immediate gratification from getting the NYI pick this year. I hope it slides. They are going to be so bad next year. If they are this bad now their roster will be a year older with Horvat and Barzals bumps kicking in. Could be a top 5 pick next year

This Islanders pick is starting to look really promising.  On Point %, They are now behind the Wings and Sabres, as well as the Pens and Caps.  13-16 is looking very possible.  Islanders have a heck of a finish to the month---Pens, @Bruins, @Pens, Jets, Kings, Jets, Wild, then their whole season rides at the start of March vs the Wings, Sabres, Pens and Caps.

We could have a real clear idea of where this one falls in aminths time.

100% this. The way this year could shape up, the Islanders pick could very well be a top 10 this year. They have played a ton more games, aren't far ahead of teams behind them, and still have a rough schedule. But I wouldn't be shocked at all if it's a lotto race pick next year. That's an aging team with very little coming in the pipeline.

As amazing as 2 top 10 picks this year would be for our pipeline, the possibility of a lotto pick next year could change the franchise.

They have an interesting roster.

Only some of their key forwards are older and they all expire within 3 years after this one. Five guys 5M+ who are all in their early 30s expire within 1-3 years after this season. RIght when the cap should jump.

Their D and G are pretty good aged and will still be in their prime in 3.5 seasons.

By the time the cap goes up they'll have a lot to work with. Perhaps a new GM/coach by then. It'll be interesting how they spend. They are interesting from an armchair perspective.

Essentially they got 3 years with this older part of the core then are gonna be primed for quite the retool. But that's in the foreseeable future and not the near future.

It's definitely a risk as they have some good pieces, however they don't really have any room to improve with Lee, Bailey, Pageau, Palmieri and Pulock taking up so much cap on top of Bo and Barzal.  Either way we should be shaping up quite nicely with a pick this year or next.

They are the second oldest team in the league I believe, their window is closing - likely already closed. I just hope they win a few and keep their pick out of the top 12...I don't see them being much better next year so if they do pick in the top 12 this year then their pick next year will probably be a decent pick too.

They certainly need to start keeping some of their picks soon because they've traded away their last four 1st rounders in a row, plus Raty.

They will have cap space one day but no assets or prospect pool to fall back on, so they'll be signing expensive ufas to fill their roster. Yikes.
