Plus retention on Bo, so not even any cap savings.  Plus AB has another season at $4.1m

Why would we need to save cap this year? Literally 4 months of paying him. That’s all.

Incredibly underwhelming return. If this deal was made at the deadline I could swallow it as there might not have been a better offer, but I have to wonder what the incentive was to make this deal now and not wait to drive the price up.

I imagine they don’t want to risk there being no more chairs when the music stops.

I like them getting ahead of it as there are a lot of forwards available this deadline and no guarantee the offers would have gotten better. Not to mention the earlier we start really tanking the better.

Ill be interested to see how this value compares to what some of the other high profile players go for. Like if O’Reilly goes for more then fans can get mad.

Top 12 protected is embarrassing

Why would any team NOT do this? Embarrassing? Calm down lol. What were the alternatives?

Carolina? Boston? New Jersey? Seattle? Each of these teams were going to finish way ahead of NYI anyway. Canucks would have been picking around 23-32 if they received a first rounder from one of these teams. Worst case scenario they are picking around 20th this year or roll the dice on 2024 where you have a NYI team that probably isn't going to be much better.

What am I missing?

I prefer a C prospect, but the add on should have been a damn, not a f*cking winger

I don't know who they were gunna get that moves the needle, Dobson/Pulock/Pelech wasn't happening. Bruins didn't even want to move Carlo.

I'm not as down on Beauvillier. Seems like a legit top 9 player that can add some speed & score a bit. Worst case retain 50% next year & recoup what you can.

What if that backfires? What if they didn't trade him and then he walks for nothing?

At least we received some potential assets.

It's better than what Calgary got for Gaudreau.

We acquired him and he is #4 on our D in ice time. Just wishful thinking

We also acquired Luca Sbisa in the Kesler trade and he was in our top 4.

So...he was/is a top 4 defenseman or?

He doesn't have to fix it, he just has to help, they aren't far from the playoff bar

He'll help their possession game for one

I just don’t see it. They’re more than one player away from being a playoff team.

That division is just too tough.

I too wanted him traded

I have been preparing for it for years

nothing he has done through the last 2 negotiations said to me that he was a lifer here

I think he will flourish when not burdened with the C

in Boston

I am curious about this, I think he will flourish without that burden as well.

What if Connor McDavid demand to go to the Canucks at 50% retained?

i don't like the new beau, age, production and cap hit.

Raty i'll reserve judgment. Hard nosed finns with decent size are the kind of two-way center we need.

I was underwhelmed, i really think people don't want to deal with us right now. This is a deep draft, we could use this pick on a dman which are undervalued due to the forward talent. Maybe the isles will suck and we can get a high pick again next year.

I'm underwhelmed as others have said, but def helps the tank. Fire sale on now

Yeah, hoping for a good result with that. Either just outside 12, or high next year. Something to look forward to I guess.

The standings won't change much from right now. This is the isles loading up... Everyone below them more or less wants to lose and everyone above them still has yet to add. They are 110% staying in the 13 to 16 range

There's 5 weeks to the tdl.......why not wait for the screws to turn a bit?

It’s an okay add on. Not the end of the world. But he’s an UFA next year, so it’s fine. Could be flipped at TDL next year.

Here's my prediction for the results of this trade:

-  Bo Horvat will sign an extension with NYI for a reasonable price... Canucks fans will be surprised how cheap.

-  Bo will score close to or more than 50 goals in total for the season after being placed on the NYI #1 PP unit... he will do the same the next 2 years.

-  NYI will make the playoffs... and the Canucks will have a pick not eligible for the lottery and one which will not give them much of a return.

-  Anthony Beauvillier will play on the 3rd line in Vancouver... will continue as a serviceable but uninspiring forward.

-  Aatu Raty will play in the AHL for the next few years... will end up as a 3rd line center for the Canucks for a few years.

Trade will go down in Canuck's history as the second worst after the Cam Neely fiasco.

To use at the deadline?  Or to have next year?

Retention on Bo doesn’t effect is next year. It does impact our ability to bring in contracts, but heck if we’re selling, maybe it’ll force JR to sell for picks. I’m happy with that.
