Mrwipeout
gamble on a medium type of player, also got a rookie center...another gamble.......and the most definite we have is a pick in the 1st round, which is another gamble.

Burtuzzi, McAbe, and (the pick that turned into) Ruutu were gambles too. Got to swing for the fences or end up mediocre. The chances are very good Raty develops into a shutdown centre who puts up 50+ points, and the first is a 2024 top five. AB is a throw in to balance cap. I see us moving him for a second at the 2024 TDL.

I think my point is that it’s better to try to build a team that can win the Cup, than be safe and build a team that can compete for a playoff spot, but the Cup would take a magical run. So taking risks (like with the first) are how teams win. That pick might be 20 this year. But there’s a very good chance it’s top five next year. Raty might be a 3 point 3C. But there’s a very good chance he’s a 50 point, shutdown 2C. And, as for AB, he’s a cap balance throw in. Best case I see for him is we trade him for a second at the 2024 TDL. But taking him (and retaining on Bo) was the price to get Raty and that first. Those two are the key pieces with the BIG upside. And BIG upside is how teams build winners.

I think he's really a cap dump to get Bo to fit, wouldn't get too excited about Beauvillier. They've made him sound responsible defensively but doesn't have a great +/-, and he's on the PP and PK a fair bit though. Will be interesting to see what we have over the rest of the season, with Mikheyev injured he'll probably end up in our top-6. Allvin seems to love giving bad players on good teams a chance, not sure I like taking on all these projects as a charity club. Hasn't really worked for Studnicka or Stillman, you could say it's worked for Bear but again all these 3 players are healthy scratches on any playoff team. Another Garland that has more size and has worse hands... and I believe he has more speed than Garland too. This player is nothing like Garland other than their salary being similar. Garland doesn't serve any role other than on a puck possession scoring line. Not speedy enough to play the forechecking game and too weak along the boards. I don't think AB is a saviour by any means but he brings element of speed, high energy, and forecheck to this team. I'm more worried that AB might find a home beside Miller or Petey and we win some games that we shouldn't be winning. We can't afford to win too many games or we will finish closer to 10th than 5th from the bottom. Our goal is to win the lottery and we absolutely need to finish around 7th worst or lower to have a non-negligible chance of winning one of the 2 picks. I could see Nashville and FLA , maybe even Ottawa and Detroit, but Colom, Chi, Zona SanJ, Anah, VAn, Mon, StL Philly? are just counting on the wheels falling off? Recall that if we do get a high pick, it would be next year, not this year. Montreal went from a Cup finalist to bottom of the league in one year, which is remarkable, even if they did go on a bit of a miracle run in the playoffs. kloubek
I'm not sold on the guy, but his historical production is very close to 2nd line territory, despite some relegating him to the 3rd line already. All reports talk about his speed, which should be exciting to watch if nothing else. I think the idea is that with his still-raw(ish) skill that hasn't quite materialized fully that perhaps our training team and coaches can help him advance his abilities. This helps him be a better producer, but presumably also increases his worth as an asset.

Maniwaki Canuck
I like this player and am pretty sure he'll get a test drive in the top 6. He brings the forecheck, puck retrieval and overall motor that helps a line drive play, kills penalties and can finish a little bit too. Put him in Mikheyev's spot and odds are he delivers. Maybe he figured into the Horvat deal as a cap dump, but he's more than that.
