There is such. Addict, that’s really it. Everyone smokes grass everywhere. The city is all in smoke. There is still a street – I do not remember what is called. So there even in a car it’s scary to go. A lot of bad guys. They can not stand on their feet, but they still smoke without stopping. There is such chaos – a really devastated street.

They smoke everywhere. There is not something that smells of grass – it stinks, everywhere is stinking. Okay this drug street, where these guys settle, but in downtown, in the center of the city stank the same. We lived on the tenth floor – even there, it used to smell. This is how much you need to smoke? It seems to me, it was possible to stick the receiver out of the window and inhale”.

So based off some of his comments back in Russia, he wasn't a big fan of the life style here in Vancouver. Even if this leadership has changed at the helm, what does that matter? He has no loyaility or past relationship with our current regime.

We'll see if he even comes to the NHL. Wouldn't be shocked if this is another play to get a bigger contract in the K, just like last time.

It’s true,  that part of the city he was living , right beside Rogers arena stinks to high hell of weed and urine , 1 or 2 blocks away is where most of homeless and drug addicted habitate , what’s wrong with calling it out ,  it’s disgusting.

Whats wrong with a player being honest?

I read the interview he gave related to this a few years ago, I must say it differs in language that you have put in abbreviated.

He actually also said he loved playing here, and the fans were incredible,.  He used to love the cheers he would get when he played physically in front of the home crowd.

From the interview with Igor Eronko

“There is such. Cirque du Soleil in Vancouver came, my wife and I went, and for some reason we returned on this road. And in the evening there is a real life. After nine hours. Cool there ( laughs ). Life begins at night”.
Continued…
“They smoke everywhere.
I’d caution against lighting the torches and fashioning pitchforks. Eronko, who unlike Malamud has a great reputation for fair and balanced reporting, translates Tryamkin’s comments and provides the context in which they were made. Eronko even told me personally that there was no malice.

Honestly, it’s hard to argue with much of what Tryamkin has to say here. Vancouver does have a well-deserved reputation as a marijuana-haven. As someone who frequents Commercial Drive, I can attest to the almost constant smell of “grass” in this city. And yeah, the area he’s referencing, which I would think is the downtown east side, could be jarring for someone not familiar with it.

Well in a sense I feel for him, I've walked into a cloud of weed smoke before around a corner heading out to dinner and ended up reeking like weed, I wasn't impressed.. not to mention pissed off and I've seen people continue to walk down the street with little kids right in front of them. Smoke weed? Cool whatever BUT be cool about it ffs!

You can't stand on the street and drink a beer, should be the same with weed. Ticket and fine them!

I agree, it's not like there aren't tons of places you could smoke weed so that it's not bothering anyone. All it calls for is a bit more respect to others and out yourself in their position.

I smoke cigs and I do stay away from doorways or air intakes, and just stay away from people so they don't have to smell it.

It's just basic respect.. it's the same scenario about camping spots that are left covered in garbage, how much effort does it take to clean up after yourself?  Enough so that someone else doesn't have deal it. End of story...

Nothing's wrong with a player calling it out, I never said it was wrong. I said he also had some issues with the city, which based off his comments I believe to be true. I like honesty, I think more NHL players should honor their personality more like we see in other sports. But if he didn't like the homeless problem of a handful of years ago, I'd reckon he'd hate it now that it's far worse. If weed bothered him, I'm sure the fact we legalized it isn't a selling feature.

To be fair though, our fans are.. fine. If his reason for coming back was the fans (if he didn't like the management and city) I actually think he'd be better off going to a market that has a more engaged barn. One of my biggest issues with the team is how quite our home ice is most the time. Gotta reckon if his selling point is fans he could go to a team with a louder fan base and quiter media.

We'll see if I'm wrong, but I don't even think we are in contention to sign Tryamkin, even IF he does come back to the NHL, which I'm 50/50 on.

Don't bite, shoot. We are all here for the same reason, to have conversations about the canucks and share our opinions. Do you think we have a top tier atmosphere at Rogers? In my experience, I think it's the most quite NHL arena I have been in. We have a small group of absolute die hard fans, like those of us with thousands of posts on a fan forum. I reckon no other teams fan base knows as much about a teams cap structure as us here on CDC. But we also have a huge amount of fair weather casual fans, and the cost of seats to our games cause tickets to go to people who can pay to be there, not always the people who desperately want to be there.

is what I'm saying out of line?

Not at all Sean, I should have specified, I mean the fans who believe and drink the media cool-aid and jump on whatever flavour of the day even though most of what the media comes up with is purely opinion to start of with and mis-directing non factual bullshi* that's laughable YET and a certain amount refuse to take the stance from watching fans screaming for a one and done cup every f'n year for so long it's not funny!

And here's how that goes, sell the farm of picks for a set roster but obviously no depth for said set roster so when injuries hit, we're screwed and that's usually first round of the playoffs... Since when does a depthless team ever win a cup ffs?

Ok so settling for a fun to watch seasonal team that can rack up wins like no tomorrow but soon as the injury bug hits... Done like dinner!

When I think of all the times I've seen it happen over and over again..

Wtf are you thinking and why would you want that when it's never worked?!  Why scream for it?

I just don't get it, those are the fans I mean and they are LOTS!

But seriously! Thankfully for those that want to see a real build that supplies competition via developing depth so you HAVE to go all out to keep your roster spot and the team not missing a beat when roster player/s are sick or injured.

This is what most fans who scream for the one and done are missing, I'd rather have a team with depth that has a legit shot every year instead..

Gonna level with you, I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. I think we're having a completely different conversations here. I was talking about the fans in the arena and the game atmosphere Tryamkin was talking about, and got a rant about the big bad media.

For the record, do I want depth? Of course. Would I take a 1 and done cup run that ends with us finally bringing Lord Stanley back home at the cost of every prospect and draft pick in our system. In a heartbeat.

You asked me about my thoughts on the fans on your reply post..

That’s a lifestyle?

or being set up to live in a seedy , drug infested, part of the city where crime rate is high,  and people living on the sidewalks.

He was stating facts.

Weed stinks.

As a professional athlete,  what do you want him to say ?

” I really like the smell of drugs” .

anyone who keeps regurgitating this “hated the city” crap should go live under the Georgia street viaduct for a week .

He was living above the Casino beside Rogers Place.

if that’s your life style,  you’ll love it.

as far as loyalty goes,  3 years ago while he was still Canuck property he was waiting for a contract , almost anything from Benning,  but Benning did not, could not make cap room for him.

The real issue was Coaching and Management did not set a 21 year old up properly for his introduction to North America.

Why, was that where he was living?

Also, since when does "he had issues" and "wasn't a big fan" become "hated the city". I said he had issues with it, the provided the exact quotes that backed up my claim when he spoke his grievances with the city.

Yes , that’s where he was living ,  most do untill they get a solid contract with some length to it.

It’s a building Aqualini owns and operates I beleive.

He said nothing bad about Vancouver ,  he was explaining a culture here,

something he was entirely unfamiliar with..

your going off an interpretation from Malamud perhaps.

again this is from that interview with Eronko:

From the interview with Igor Eronko :
