[Proposal] Trade Deadline

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone.  I am basing these proposals off of managments "Retool" & "Major Surgery" comments but also keeping in mind an eye towards the future.

First trade will depend if Managment decides they want to move on from Demmer

To Florida: OEL

To Vancouver: Bobrovsky a 2nd round draft pick in 2023 & a 5th Round pick in 2023

Florida is looking to make a trade to free up cap space in order to activate Anothony Duclair & Patric Hornqvist.  We do this trade again only if management is looking to move on from Demko.  This trade allows us to pick up two extra draft picks & allows for Silvos to stay another year or two in the AHL and continue to develop into the goalie of the future.  Bobrovsky also had his best years with Clarke.  We take on the bigger cap hit but get out of the contract one year sooner.

Second trade

To LA  Thatcher Demko

To Vancover: One of LA RHD prospects and a third.

I can't say i know much about the prospects of LA outside of they have a glutton of RHD prospects that we are in short supply of.  The key to this trade is that we don't take back a big cap hit in this trade.  LA does this because they get their goalie of the future and allows them to trade Quick at the dead line as well.

Third trade

To NJD:  Brock Boeser 50% retain

To Vancover:  Alexander Holtz & a 2nd in 2023.

New Jersey does this trade to get another top six forward for cheap & Van does this to free up more cap space and further change up the core & acquire some more draft capital.

Final trade

To Edmonton:  Luke Schenn

To Vancouver: Jesse Pulujarvi, & either a 2nd or 3rd whatever the value difference would be

This trade allows Edmonton to gain some cap relief to use for upgrading their roster at the trade deadline and add a solid addition on the back end for them.  This trade allows us to again gain more draft capital as well as bring in a struggling player that we can resign for a year on a show me deal & either flip him at the next dead line or rebuild his confidence and get a good young player.

Ideally these trades allow the canucks to move out some cap in the long term in OEL Boeser & Demko and bring in a couple younger players that may need a fresh start and load up on some draft picks.   I based my trade proposals on some rumors i have seen going around from other teams & on what management has said they'd like to do.

I look forward to the feedback :)

PS I do understand that players would have to waive their no movement clauses or trade clauses for these to happen.  This is a discussion on the assumption they have :)

I would so much rather have OEL and keep Demko than get Bobrovsky. If he was 3-4 years younger I might change my tone and hope he can bounce back with Clark, but that contract is way more of an anchor than OEL. Unless Demko publicly says he wants out, there is zero reason to move him. I also am still holding out hope that Tocchet can bring back the OEL of his earlier years in AZ.

The Schenn deal interests me because Pool Party still has RFA status and is still young enough to turn his career around, but I’m not sure Edmonton does that trade. I also don’t really know where Pool Party fits in our lineup beyond this year. Let’s say we hypothetically do the Boeser deal in your post:

Kuz, Garland, Mikheyev, Beauvillier, Podkolzin, Holtz should presumably be the 6 wingers in our top 9. We still have Pearson and Hoglander to consider. If we decide Miller is better suited on wing that throws a wrench in everything but I can confidently assume Miller is permanently center with the departure of Bo. I just don’t see how adding more and more wingers will work for us.

The retention on Boeser is too much for my liking but Holtz is a good prospect. I’m probably 50/50 on that one. I don’t love Holtz but if he’s the best prospect we can get in a Boeser deal, I can be on board.

Thank you for the feed back :).  Honestly I wouldn’t want Bob either unless Demko wants to move on.  Than I’d consider it just to obtain some more draft capital in this years draft.  As for the wingers with all the smoke around mgt potential buying out garland I had considered bringing in an extra but I should have put that into my proposal.  If mgt didn’t buy out garland Podz good have another year of seasoning in the A.
