Popular Post Goal:thecup
[GDT] Thursday, Feb 9/23 Vancouver Canucks (20-27-4) @ New York Islanders (27-22-5) 4:30PT at UBS Arena TV: SNP RADIO: SN650AM BO-BEAU EDITION: For the first time in his NHL career, Bo Horvat will be facing off AGAINST the Vancouver Canucks, after being traded for a 2023 conditional* 1st round pick, a center prospect (20 yr old Finn, Aatu Räty), and left wing (25 yr old Anthony Beauvillier from Sorel-Tracy Quebec). *Condition: First 12 Places Protected; defaults to an Unprotected 2024 1st Round pick. Right from when he was drafted in 2013, Bo was considered a Captain-in-Waiting and was named Captain in October 2019. Bo served well but got caught in the flat-cap, no-cap-room era. The new management team wanted to change the culture around the team and get younger (Bo will be 28 in 2 months), and get more prospects and draft picks. Räty has started in the AHL and fans are hoping that the NYI finish about 13th to 16th in the 2023 draft order so that we get that 1st round pick this year to go along with our own high 1st round pick. Beau is an exciting forward who is already fitting in and contributing with the Canucks. He had an outstanding career in the QMJHL and was taken by the Islanders with the 28th pick in the 2015 draft. In his limited time with the Canucks, he seems to have found some room in the top 6 with his very good skating, passing, and shooting along with his upbeat attitude. No points yet but they will come and it will be interesting to see who scores more points between Bo and Beau. (Bo has 1 goal so far; both have played 2 games.) SUBTEXT, AKA THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM: Canuck fans have adjusted to the new realities of this season, new coaches, new players, et cetera and now just want to see the team try hard, score lots, but still lose in regulation as the team chases the best draft position(s) they can get; in other words TANKING (with respect). ELEPHANTS: VS TANKS: Match Preview from Canada Today (WARNING Canada Today uses Canadian as a Second Language I guess, lol.): Spoiler Match Preview: NY Islanders vs. Vancouver Canucks Claire ClarksonFebruary 9, 2023 NYI-215. 19:30 o’clock. 20-26-4. 104. 2/9. 27-22-5. 106.MSGSN The New York Islanders are looking to win their fifth straight game during the midseason turn and they will be looking to match that against their recent trading partners, the Vancouver Canucks. Both teams made headlines as the islanders took center stage Bo Horvat in exchange for Anthony Beauvillier, Aatu Raty, and a first-round selection, and both teams will have players who want a statement game against their former clubs. The Canucks are 0-1-1 since trade, while New York is 2-0-0. The islanders took them Seattle Kraken in a dominant effort on Tuesday night and won by a final score 4-0. The Isles played a very complete 60-minute game and never let their foot down as they had 54% more high-risk scoring chances than Seattle all game. The goalscorer list included goals from Simon Holmstrom, Zach Parise the first NHL goal for Samuel Bolducand of course the first goal for Horvat in blue and orange. Ilya Sorokin was also outstanding, stopping all 32 shots he faced to earn his fifth shutout of the season in the league. It seemed like every line combo that was put on the ice for New York worked extremely well and it’s hard to imagine that we’ll see plenty of pivot points throughout the lineup after an impressive effort. Vancouver has completed its first two games on its road trip through the Tri-State Area, both by one goal loss to the New Jersey Devil on Monday and the New York Rangers last night. The Kraken held no lead against the Rangers all game, losing 4-3 in the end. The Canucks found themselves 2-1 down after the first half, with their lone goal coming off the stick late Conor garland. Vasily Podkolzin hit Igor Shesterkin to the 3:2 transition into the third third, but Mika Zibanejad scored late to give Rangers a comfortable 4-2 lead. Elias Petterson Just moments later, he scored to close the one-goal deficit, but that goal from Zibanejad proved decisive and ended up being the winner of the game. Spencer Martinwho has since taken on starting duties Thatcher Demko has made just 17 saves from 21 shots in loss with an injury. Read Also: WTA Toronto, Canada Women Singles 2022 Preview: Amanda Anisimova vs. Carol Zhao Betting Odds and Match Preview How could it not be Horvat? The former 9th overall Canucks champion scored his first goal in the Islanders jersey and wowed the crowd at the UBS Arena. He now has a chance to make a statement against the team that tried to get rid of him while the islanders play winning hockey. Horvat has 32 goals and 55 points in the season that leads the team and in his two games as an islander he has one goal, six shots on target, four hits and three blocks. He’s certainly been a difference maker so far and has slotted in well as a midline on the first line Matthew Barsal And Josh Bailey. On the other hand, if anyone wants to beat the Islanders in this game for the Canucks, it’s definitely Beauvillier. The roster piece the Canucks got back in last week’s trade has yet to score with his new team, and how much more poetic could it get to score a goal in the building he once called home. Tito has recorded nine goals and 11 assists in 50 games this season and has struggled with inconsistencies on the island this season. This match is sure to be emotional for both sides and it’s fair to expect Long Island to give the fan favorite, who had many memorable moments as an Islander, a warm welcome. The Isles visited Vancouver in their second game of 2023 during a grueling four-game road trip, with the bunch’s only win coming against the Canucks. Barzal, a native of British Columbia, scored the deciding victory for the Islanders in front of friends and family in a 6-2 victory for the Islanders. Raty scored the first goal for the Isles against his soon-to-be new team and guess who scored both of Vancouver’s goals. That’s right, Bo Horvat. Talk about coming full circle almost a month before both players switched sides. islanders Josh Bailey-Bo Horvat-Mat Barzal Anders Lee Brock Nelson Kyle Palmieri Zach Parise-JG Pageau-Simon Holmstrom Matt Martin-Casey Cizikas-Ross Johnston Adam Pelech Ryan Pulock Alexander Romanov-Scott Mayfield Sebastian Aho-Noah Dobson Ilya Sorokin Semyon Varlamov canucks Andrei Kuzmenko Elias Pettersson Anthony Beauvillier VasilyPodkolzin-JT Miller-Conno Garland Dakota Joshua Sheldon Dries Brock Boeser Phillip Di Giuseppe-Nils Åman-Curtis Lazar Quinn Hughes-Ethan Bear Oliver Ekman-Larsson-Luke Schön Riley Stillman Tyler Myers Lines above Daily Faceoff Source: eyesonisles.com BO-BEAU Bo-Beau Bu-Bu bu-bu bu-bu-bu-bu but That's All Folks, On With The Show, This is IT! Popular Post NUCKER67
This could be a tough game to watch, but I wouldn't miss it. Bo looks to do very well in NY playing with Barzal, I see them getting into the playoffs. Maybe the Canucks end up with a low-20s pick. (take a Dman) Any success Bo has against the Canucks will suck, so I'm hoping he goes goalless tonight anyway. Crappy to lose almost every game, but got to keep their eyes on the prize (Top 3) 2

ToTellTheTruth
Injuries. Defence depth will be challenged. Schenn may not play, they should sit him, I think he tweeked his back, that usually needs a few days of rest to correct even after seeing a chiropractor. Hughes will be seeing double and breathing could be an effort. Both should sit out a couple of games. The Canucks let in 5 goals and the Islanders will not be backing off the way the Devils and Rangers did, both those teams didn't give 100%. I expect a loss, the AHL guys will play hard and give effort, the 3rd/4th lines will perform hopefully Boeser looks good for those eastern teams trade possibilities. Game management could be an issue to equalize 1

I think schen will sit out and dermott will be in and they may even play burroughs in case hughes isn't 100% so i'd guess dries would be the odd one out. Who knows. 1

Slegr
I’m not ashamed to say that I’m hoping someone like Miller checks Horvat hard in an open ice hit… just to remind him that 6’0”+, 200 lbs+ leaders on teams are expected to do that once in awhile. 1 4 1

Jester13
If Bo hits one of our guys tonight then you know he has beef with him and there truly was division in the locker room. Edit: oops, let me put this right away so some posters know this is a joke about Bo's lack of physicality.
