Elias Pettersson
To Columbus: Brock Boeser Nils Höglander To Vancouver: Adam Boqvist Sean Kuraly Columbus is a mess. But soon, they will have Connor Bedard and David Jiricek in their lineup. So, they will be looking to immediately become a playoff team next season. Adding Boeser and Höglander to a forward group of Bedard, Gaudreau, Laine, Marchenko, Sillinger and Johnson could vault them right into playoff contention and make them a powerhouse offensive team for years to come. With Jiricek in the lineup next year, they won't need Boqvist, so they shouldn't have a problem moving him out. Boqvist gives us a Hughes lite on the right side. He would run the 2nd unit PP. He has world class speed and a great shot. If he can improve defensively then he would truly be a top 4 Dman in this league. Kuraly is a Tocchet type of player. He has speed to burn, is big and physical and loves to hit. He has lots of playoff experience and can kill penalties. He would be our 3C. Salaries are fine both ways so we could offload Boeser's entire salary no problem. Who says no?

Crosby et McDavid's first couple of years didn't propel their team into playoffs contenders, much less powerhouses. They would be better to keep Boqvist and develop him, they could always trade him later too for other asset if he's expandable. Boeser would be with them for 2 years of Bedard's ELC. They won't re-sign him since that money will go to Bedard's extension. And I'm sure they have a couple of hoglanders (NHL/AHL tweeners) already in their system.

DownUndaCanuck
I've always really liked Boqvist, surprised he hasn't stuck in any team's top-4 despite putting up points. I think he's quite easily pushed off the puck and not that solid defensively, so wouldn't be a great partner for Hughes, but would be such a great addition and partner on our 2nd pairing. Basically scores at a 40pt pace despite playing bottom pairing minutes. I think a Boeser for Boqvist trade straight-up would work. They're going to need help on D, especially if Gavrikov goes, so maybe we give them Rathbone too and then they give us a pick (2nd or 3rd?) or Kuraly? I was hoping we'd trade Miller for Peeke/Boqvist + Kuraly + 1st or 2nd but this is a much more subtle version of that.
