But they can lose and at least look half decent doing it..like put in some effort a 4-2 loss is still a loss...

You are expecting way too much. This is how tanking works, not enough skill and effort.

Fans want tank, this is how it goes. Not every tank game is going to be a 100% effort game with a loss that is a 1 or 2 goal difference game.

Also the coach said they need to go back to grade school to learn how to defend. It’s only going to get worse before it gets better.

good to see boudreau with no structure gives up an average of 4.08 goals per game and tochette with his system and structure is giving up only 4.375 goals per game. playing with no structure definitely is the reason why our player sucked so bad defensively.. we have been giving up just as much high danger chance with less shots against and more blocked shots lol.. before every 3rd shot is like a high danger chance.. now every other shot is a high danger chance against.

Boudreau had Horvat and Mikheyev in the lineup.  I’m sure that made a difference. Mikheyev even with one leg is better defensively than most of our forwards.

I don’t think the players can predict the exact score in the game every night.  If they could their families would all make millions from BCLC…

There is so much going on here you are unaware of. I can already see the expectation level is different. It takes time to fix f#%ked you're not going to see some huge numerical improvement if that's what you're thinking.

I think some people are unhappy because it's not that we lost but how we lost.

That's fair. The guys are beaten down by this whole season, I think this Hughes quote illustrates it perfectly:

"It's never good when you lose 6-1. I don't know what to tell you guys - it was a terrible game and it hasn't been a great year," said Quinn Hughes.

When it goes as badly as it has this year; there's going to be nights where things start going wrong & the fatigue of the season crushes your spirit.

At this point getting a building block out of the draft is the biggest thing, so the results don't matter. Hopefully there's some individual growth in players (and steps towards a team defensive structure) but ultimately everyone is just waiting for this to be over.

I doubt Tocchet knows that much about the high ends and low ends of most of our players yet. Not really. Not liking some of his line decisions and the ice times.

Wanna talk about tanking? Well guess what. Losing 3-2 has the same results in the standings as 6-1. Pathetic last hand full of games. Players and coach...........

After watching a decade of chasing the middle, I would prefer the team try to add a difference maker through the draft, whilst on an entry level contract. Been watching the CBJ GM for awhile now and he has been doing the samething: depending on the season and the roster needs, he is either chasing a cup or a top 5 lottery ticket vs the middle or NHL PURGATORY.  After adding Gaudreau and Jiricek last year, he is looking forward to adding a franchise type player to his team...

Yeesh… don’t make Petterson and Hughes have to go in front of the media.  Hughes looked depressed and like he wanted to cry.

I can’t imagine any player isn’t at least secretly hoping that they get traded.

They need to blow it up and even trade these guys.  The last thing we need to hold onto is any “culture carriers” from this squad.  We don’t want any of this crew rubbing off on new additions.

I laughed at people expecting a “coach bump.”  Last year’s team was fighting for the playoffs - and had the top notch goaltending to make them believers. It was a ton of fun to watch.

This year’s group played themselves out of the playoffs after the first 7 games. Then had to empty the tank to scrape back to .500.  To achieve even that looked hard with the goaltending they were getting. They’re done. You can see it.  They don’t want to block shots or sell out.  And while they pull together a good effort every few games there’s many nights they’re just going through the motions.  One of them earlier this season said it felt like they’ve been playing game 7s for the past year.  They’re burnt out from digging themselves into a hole two years in a row.

Hopefully Tocchet is able to instil some good habits and emphasize the need to come to camp in shape next year.  Beyond that no one was going to come in and work miracles.  We’re getting a nice piece - and hopefully a few extra futures when we sell what we can.

Long term I’m hoping this is all for the best.

I agree to an extent - but some of those guys have so much talent (and have worked pretty hard to improve, like Petey) that they’re worth keeping around.

I do think they need to seriously shake things up next year, though, and maybe bring in some hard nosed guys on shorter contracts to ratchet up the compete level.  Who, besides 50-goal-Bo is playing for their next deal right now?

Easier said than done to move guys out, though.
