Goaltending isn't really the issue with this team. The whole team is just broken.

Yup, I'm really hoping management embraces this probably being a longer process than they expected it to be coming in

I'm so tired of management groups trying to take shortcuts instead of just embracing what should be a gradual build up

Probably gonna be more losing seasons on the horizon

This is tough. The human side of this situation makes me understand why staying makes sense. Calgary at least is close too.

if we do trade him I hope it’s Calgary temporarily and we resign him next year if it works out for both sides. But tough situation.

Yea I tend to agree.

You can’t have a guy like that leading your team. He’s an empty jersey most nights.

Can't believe someone thought it was a good idea to slap an 'A' on his jersey before he even played a game for us. It's almost as if someone (or two people) had talked him up before he arrived.

Welp, that saves me from watching it on DVD, since I worked night shift tonight and couldn't have gotten to it until Wednesday. I feel like the team owes me a refund for getting the Canuck's package on Xfinity. It's obvious management has given up on this team, they fired a popular coach, abused him in the worst way possible, hired a never was coach to replace him who is already working on making the team hate him, so the players are giving up. If I'm Petey or Miller, I'm protecting myself, not going into the corners hard, or fighting in front of the net. Imagine how it would suck to blow out a knee or suffer some other serious injury when it doesn't matter if you lose by one or eleven. Tocchet won't have any success with their systems, dude couldn't even make the playoffs with a Tampa team stocked with great players (Stamkos, St. Louis, Lecavalier who all played the full 82 games) but Guy Boucher took them to the third round the following year with few changes. Tocchet as a coach stinks, which is perfect for the tank. So they lose this season and next, then replace Tocchet with a real coach and start their turnaround.

our defence is atrocious. No goalie could thrive on our team not even god mode Demko

Look at how well Halak is playing right now - this sums it up.

If we dare trade Demko to a solid defensive team like LA, it's over. Vezina winner year after year.

It's been a while now under Tocchet, I know coaches need a lot of time to get their systems in place and change bad habits, but we've looked dreadful under Rick as well. Absolutely zero difference whatsoever. At least under BB we were scoring loads. Right now we're seeing a lack of scoring with no Bo or Mikheyev and a more conservative offence (much more dumping the puck in, even from our top line), while the defencemen still make dreadful defensive plays leading to goals against. This might be the worst pit the Canucks have been in in a long time. Getting blown up defensively and only Petey out there to score.

is it me, or does he sound very indifferent to what happened tonight?

Deflecting cause he understands that his salary and level of play are part of the problem.  LE 2.0 should just waive his NTC and go somewhere else.  Canucks will obviously be retaining salary but time to move on from him and he knows it, like LE did....

I know this is a business however I hope management takes this into account.

Some things are way bigger than the game.

Both the birth of his child and the integrity of this organisation taking this into account in regards to trading him.

Even before this I was against trading him.

He just brings so much to our team.

We scored 6 goals against the Islanders.  Also, Kuzmenko has been basically shut down in order to showcase Boeser, BO is gone and Mikheyev also shut down.  So, you knew the goals were going to decrease under Tocchet, at least for this season.

As for the defensive play, it's going to take awhile to break old habits.  Nothing significant will happen until next season IMO.  Right now, we are just riding out the tank and evaluating who stays and who goes...

Although to be fair, Demko in god mode last year certainly tried his damndest.

Between this and the Canucks in Cars thing he did not too long ago. I jumped off the trade him bandwagon and I am firmly in the 3 years at 2mil bandwagon. Lock em up. He has his chip. Let him ride into the sunset with us, him and OEL are great leadership pieces for the team. Hughes is a great piece in general. Everyone else on that blueline is expendable.

its stupid the management wants to trade someone whos solid and actually wants to stay here and possibly retire a canucks

I didn't see the game (thank God). Who was in net? Was it Martin?

And, well, Tocchet's not wrong. When you let in 6 goals, that's pretty much grade level defense.

But at least this helps with the tank. Where are we now? 5th in the lottery best odds?
