O'Reilly's peak is behind him but I think he'll shine again in Toronto.

Not long ago he captained a team to a Stanley Cup Championship.

Price is high but it's due or die for Dubas.

Even though RoR is a great character, cup winning third line quality f/o center.... And will make them a even stronger team, they should have focused on acquiring more veteran D.

If the Wild only got a 4th round pick two years from now for retaining $2.5 million of salary this year, that doesn't exacly give me hope that the Canucks would get much more if they participate in a similar trade.

O'Reilly's salary is 1M this season (rest was bonus) with only ~30% left to pay.   The Wild pick up 75K in salary and 1.875M cap hit.

Dubas was smart. He could have gone for Horvat but he knew he needed a guy who can play defensively to win. So he lets Lou Lsn way overpay for Horvat and then gets the much better player (and proven winner) in ROR for a lot less.

Jesus, if they don't move Miller they are bigger morons than I could have imagined.  The arms race is on in the East.

Miller is way better than Horvat. Crazy to move him. We need guys with his character to build around.

Except they got one of the best defensive fwds to come along in awhile.

This makes TO a much tougher team to play against.

My thoughts are that Dubas couldn't get a decent defenseman in a trade without losing his shirt, this was the next best option.  Can't say I don't like it.  Hell of a way to put all your chips in play.  "All or nothin' 2"Bill Hader Popcorn GIF

It's the standard going rate for 3rd party brokers.  Getting the most from weaponizing cap space comes in the form of taking on entire cap dumps.

Yeah, if the price on defencemen is too high, why not just grab a Selke calibre forward to help defend leads instead.

Yup. Getting ROR just made all the Leafs’ D a little bit better. Maybe some here don’t realize how important a defensively minded centre is for helping the D?
