Yeah, if the price on defencemen is too high, why not just grab a Selke calibre forward to help defend leads instead.

Yup. Getting ROR just made all the Leafs’ D a little bit better. Maybe some here don’t realize how important a defensively minded centre is for helping the D?

Or forwards helping defend in general.

That defence and goaltending is still pretty terrible.

It’s why this deal won’t matter.

They’re even with Tampa up from now but the Lightning have far superior D and goaltending.

ROR is a much better player than ?Horvat.

He is the perfect 3C playing behind Matthews and Tavares.  He can basically take the shut down role for the playoffs and allow Matthews and Tavares to focus on the offence.  The only thing Horvat was going to shut down was the water fountain across from the dressing room...

But Bo would score a goal while giving up two on the way to the fountain!

They traded a fourth round prospect, a late first, a second next year and some other late picks. How is this an overpayment? We got a better return for Bo lol

Yup. We got the much better return for the inferior player. Much rather have ROR if competing for the Cup.

Dubas was smart. He could have gone for Horvat but he knew he needed a guy who can play defensively to win. So he lets Lou Lsn way overpay for Horvat and then gets the much better player (and proven winner) in ROR for a lot less.

However Lou didnt give up NEARLY as much of the future. He atleast has Horvat locked in long term. This move definitely moves the needle for TO on scale of contenders, however their pathway to the finals will be extremely difficult and if they do not win a cup…. Oohhhhh boy. Zero future hope in TOR. Matthews walkin to free agency, Tavares anchor contract, Nylander lookin for a payday…. Its going to fall a part extremely quick and its going to be a very long, dark, ugly road ahead

I guess some people didn't watch the 2011 playoffs when Ryan Kesler was our MVP in the first two series.  O'Reilly is an older version of Kesler who will be taking on all of the tough defensive matchups...

Sure, Lou won giving up his top prospect and high first and then paying Bo 68 million. That’s winning!

It just looks impressive because of the quantity of assets moved.  Canucks got quality for Bo.

Which frees up Tavares to play a more offensive roll. I don’t see any team stopping the Leafs this playoffs. The players in the Leafs’ room are ecstatic.

Good acquisition. Especially if he can elevate his game in the playoffs like he normally does.

The 1st will be late, so they didn't give up AS much as it first looks, but still... All-In Dubas.

They gave up a 2nd and a 3rd as well.

They also got Acciari too but still a decent amount to pay for a rental.

Will be interesting what Meier goes for now.

Didnt give up everything for possibly nothing. 1st round exit and ROR goes back to COL or STL… a hefty price to have someone walk in the end. At least Horvat is producing, pretty good 200ft game overall, one of the best C’s in the league and is still in his prime. ROR is on the downward swing and a pending UFA

Yeah, don't underestimate the value Acciari brings.  He's a stalwart defensive minded player in his own right.
