It's alot for a 32-year-old rental, but O'Reilly is exactly what the Leafs need.  They don't have his caliber of defensive specialist on the roster.  We are talking elite Selke trophy winning defensive capabilities.  Plus, he is a Stanley cup champion.  He will be taking all the important draws, penalty killing and matching up with the other teams top line.  You can even throw him on the wing to play with Matthews or Tavares.  Just last year he actually had a better year than Horvat, finished 4th in the Selke voting and was a PPG in the playoffs, so he should be rejuvenated to play with his hometown team.

The Leafs are basically all in.  If they don't win a cup this year, then Matthews probably walks and they are done...

Yup. ROR is a better player than Horvat.

Great way to circumvent the rules.

75% retained

if that was van the league would make a new rule and punish them for it.

It's been done multiple times already.  A contract can be retained on by 2 teams.

Some deals also go down the longer you wait because teams have moved to their plan Bs.

LeBrun also predicts a buyers' market this TDL.

Exactly.

I would say Schenn and Boeser would be some teams plan C’s but let’s say a team like Jersey strikes out on Meier? Or Calgary decides they need to make the playoffs at all costs?

The advantage the Canucks have now is they can take on bad contracts in deals.

Doesn't sound like they expect Murray back this season.

Umm shouldn’t they be going for a goalie then?

They’re really gonna put all their faith in Samsonov?

O Reilly is the perfect center for the shut down line , but he's still only gunna play 16 min a game . He can't bail out that defense all game. Not to mention coming off a foot injury, and already losing a step or two. Might be tough keeping up with the bolts .

Blues are better off for the move.

If Toronto doesn’t win the Cup in the next two years, then they lost the trade.

Either way, a decent deal.

ROR is a solid player and can be a huge add.
