[Trade] Predators trade Tanner Jeannot to Lightning for Cal Foote, 2025 1st-round pick, 2024 2nd-round pick, 2023 3rd-round pick, 2023 4th-round pick, 2023 5th-round pick

In the end Tampa doesn’t care about late 3rds, 4ths, and 5ths. Those picks will more than likely equal nothing.

A 1st and a 2nd is a lot to pay for Jeannot, but it’s not that crazy when you look at what teams have paid for role players and tough guys in the past.

I wouldn't take it that far.

It's true late picks like that aren't of priority for a top-tier team like Tampa, but they've gotten to this point because they've struck gold with their late picks. Point, Palat, Cirelli, etc...

Fun Fact:

Total points this year:

Luke Schenn - 21

Tanner Jeannot - 14

JR/PA on the phones right now looking for someone's entire 2024 draft class...

TO needs some defensive help.

And they’ve got their roster locked in for quite awhile.

They kept their first in this deep draft, and can restock with their picks next draft.

It’s really not that big of a deal for them. People overrate draft picks on here, especially later ones. For every Point and Cirelli they’ve found they’ve struck out 9 times.

Weren't Brayden Point and Anthony Cirelli 3rd round picks?  Are those players nothing?

Because every third is gonna equal those players right?

Sure it could be the next Lidstrom. But 99 times out of 100 it’s not.

Tampa can afford to gamble that a late third isn’t going to bite them. In the end I bet you Nashville gets one roster player (outside of Foote) from this.

Tampa Bay traded their 2023 1st and don't have another one until 2026.  They also don't have a 2nd until 2025...

Hardly. The Lightning clearly liked Jeannot a lot and were willing to overpay. As the other trades have shown this is the outlier.

And people are looking at quantity not quality. The only top pieces are the 1st and the 2nd, and even the 1st isn’t until 2025.

The return is huge, but people need to remember Jeannot's contract. A capped out team like Tampa just got a contract they can easily fit with little to no maneuvering needed.

Thanks guys. It's definitely an overpayment/Nashville did well, but they got another "Hagel" on a cheap deal that requires next to no cap maneuvering.

And people here overrate Foote.
