[3-Way Trade] Rangers acquire Patrick Kane, Cooper Zech; Blackhawks acquire Andy Welinski, Vili Saarijarvi, conditional 2023 2nd-round pick, 2025 4th-round pick; Coyotes acquire 2025 3rd-round pick

So what would happen if they win Bedard? This is a franchise that clearly isn't really trying to win. They are the NHL equivalent of a holding company. They just exist to facilitate other transactions. Would suit Bettman right to have the 2 best players in the media wastelands of Edmonton and Phoenix.

It's basically the same as Chicago when the Norris family owned both the Red Wings and the Blackhawks.

It's almost sickening. 32 picks in the next 3 years before you add whatever they get out of this deal, and the TBD Chychrun return.

That’s what happens when you have ample cap space with no desire to win anything. Not sure why we’re comparing the Canucks to the perennial bottom feeding Coyotes. If we decided to be the NHLs dumping ground we’d also be pick heavy. Haven’t they been doing this for years? Clearly it’s not a recipe for winning. Having 4 more fourth or fifth round picks isn’t going to garner elite level players who can be relied upon to win a cup

We should pray that if we don’t get Bedard, that Arizona gets him. We don’t want some up and coming team like Columbus, or a Chicago getting him. We need some bottom of the barrel zero motivation team to get him so he wants out after his RFA days

I wasn't comparing us to them.

Imagine him playing next year in an arena smaller than the one he played Junior in? What a joke.

Salary cost is minimal, but hardly worth burning a retention spot and using up cap space for only a 5th round pick

Arizona can add over 65M in contracts today and still be cap compliant by the end of the season.   It's salary that's relevant for teams looking to play 3rd party broker.  They typically have so much cap space that they figure it's better to get an asset than just leave it unused.

Lol that return for Chicago. Hopefully the Rangers get ousted

I wouldn't mind seeing the Rangers beat the Lightning if it gets to that point.

As for the lackluster return for Chicago...Kane has a no movement clause. NY was probably the only team he was willing to move to.

Remember the constraints Benning had to work with when trading Kesler?

Yup my point precisely. But because it’s Chicago I love to see it

Sorry should have clarified. A 5th round pick is hardly worth it for the Canucks, when we potentially have some better plans for the cap space and retention slots.

I can absolutely understand why ARI was part of this deal.
