I'd call it urgent if today was August 1st, 2023.  We have 1/2 a year to unload a contract lol.

Ok my definition of urgent is being forced into doing something because there is no alternative.

Any team we negotiate with regarding Myers does so knowing we must trade him or else we are not cap compliant.

not like Hronek is one of a kind and those picks are that much more valuable at the draft.  Again, just timing for me

Yeah 50/50 agree. He does fit the mold though. Seems like management are viewing the race to the end as a time to inadvertently tank while having a definitive plan and roster ready to go for next season.

Look no further than what these clowns are doing. At least Benning drafted Pettersson, Hughes and Demko.

Full marks to selecting those three, I was just curious what kind of trade he would of done. Would he have kept the pick or use the pick to get rid of a bad contract like he did with Loui

We will fix the defense with UFA's great plan!

I don't have an issue with tat, but y9ou have to have cap space and this group has added $5m, not subtracted

Definitely Yzerman won this trade no doubt about it!!! If we were going to trade our 1st and 2nd round picks, I am sure there are better top 4 D to choose from!!!

Which ones. I'm genuinely curious.

Very possible that this (or a comparable ) deal was not available last year. Right-side defensmen (especially young ones) are so difficult to come by and you can't count on the draft to provide them. Between this and the Bear acquisition they are at least making a concerted effort to improve that part of the roster.

Hroneks not very good at defense fyi

Dream on.

He was on pace for 52 points this season playing on both special teams. That gets a D man paid. He’s gonna get 7-8 mil.

7-8mil? What the hell? In what world is he worth Ekblad, Carlson and Hughes money? You say some really outlandish sh*t, but yikes.

JR/PA are weaponizing their draft picks.  This is what you said you can do with picks.  So that is exactly what they are doing.  They preferred to get Hronek now rather than draft Reinbacher and wait 5 years for him when Petey is 30 years old.  Hronek is only 1 year older than Petey, so he fits the timeline perfectly...

make the trade at the draft when those picks are at their highest value.  They don't need to add right now, it makes no sense to make ths trade at this point

Last summer the islanders traded the 13th overall to the Canadiens for romanov. Hronek is a much better player. I wish it was a 2025 2nd rounder but I'll be happy if we can recoup a 2nd in this draft on a boeser trade.

The fact that almost everyone already hates the trade gives us more reason to be patient.  I'm as disappointed as the next guy about losing the extra 1st rounder but we still have a few players to trade for picks and firmly believe we're going the flip Beau just like Stillman.

Here's a glimpse of what we're getting.

Hronek had a down year in 2021-22, posting 38 points and a minus-29 rating in 78 games.

Overall, it’s been a bounceback campaign for Hronek. He endured a struggling 2021-22 campaign.

Working in Detroit’s second pairing first with Olli Maatta and more recently alongside Ben Chiarot,

However, 24 of those points were garnered by Dec. 6, including a 14-point November. More recently, Hronek was showing just six points over his past 18 games, as well as a -5 rating. His dreadful first-period giveaway in Tuesday’s 6-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators led to a backbreaking shorthanded goal by Senators forward Austin Watson

And this is with him playing with 2 very good defencemen.
