It is an almost foregone conclusion we will see them have top PP minutes together as well as semi consistent shifts. There's to much hype to not see it happen. Fair. Tocchet hasn’t had many top 4 D options with the Canucks in his short time here, and seeing what Hughes can do with a legit partner may be the first choice. That would leave Soucy Cole as a second pairing (to start)? Believe they’ve played together in Minnesota, so there could be some quick chemistry. Myers could pair with Cole as well if they want to see how Hughes-Hronek works out. That leaves Soucy to dominate in 3rd pair minutes like he has his whole career. We might even see something like Hughes, Hronek, Cole, Myers, Soucy mixing and matching at times and our 6D getting around 12-16 min a night. 1

I like that…Myers with a quality shutdown partner could work well, and Soucy on the third with Juulsen? That could be good

No, Tocchet basically coached an AHL defence for the most part and still managed a winning record with it.

And on the other hand... the1seajay - 13 hr. ago I think he's gotten a bad rap for his defense in his career, but he was never really billed as a defensive stalwart. He's a second pairing offensive threat that does well on the power play and doesn't look completely lost on the kill. He makes some bad mistakes at times, but a lot of those were overcompensating for a bad play/bad positioning by his defensive partner. If he's paired with a solid defensive guy, you're going to be very happy with him.

Maybe Soucy will be okay, but I'm still not sold on him taking top 4 minutes.

Felt to me like the responses we would have gotten from a Sharks board when Ehrhoff came over.

I wonder where he slots in on the PP - with Hughes or with his own unit. Interesting how they’re debating his defensive ability - seems he’s about average in that area but was given some tough matchups. Weak team, didn’t always have the best partner. Could be a decent fit with Soucy - or - Bear wasn’t the best defensively either but he and Hughes cleaned up.
KirkSave
If we can have Hronek lead the 2nd unit PP on the point, he would give our 2nd unit a bomb from the point and having 2 dangerous PP units would be a nice weapon. Also have that internal competition b/w PP units that Bieksa mentioned his Canuck teams had over the years. 1st PP Unit: *Beau Kuzmenko Petey Miller Hughes *Pad his stats and inflate his numbers on our top PP, simply to up his value for trade if he ain't in the long term plans. 2nd PP Unit: Garland Boeser Mik Hronek *Hirose *Showed lots of composure in his stint at the end of last season. Could see him performing well as a set up man for Hronek's 1 timers!

Not sure if you have Miller or Petey do double duty or if you just try having a guy like Suter or Joshua fill that role. Boeser's taken a few face-offs, but he's not very good at them, which is to be expected as a winger.

I'm sure if the team told him his role would be face-off duty on PP2 he would start practicing them again and become sufficient. Obviously he wouldn't suddenly be able to replicate Bo's 66% win rate on the PP but he could probably get close to 50%.

I believe Hoglander is 5'9" and about 185 lbs, but weights might have changed over the summer. They look about an inch different in height in that image, but I'd chalk it up to perspective, players' poses, leaning, bent knees, etc.
