Popular Post J.I.A.H.N
Ok............the team does not look that bad! So i am going to suggest 3 pretty simple moves that should help us out for the next 3 years + At the draft.............. Vancouver trades Jack Rathbone and Brock Boeser (1 million retained) to Pittsburgh for Marcus Pettersson In Free Agency Scott Mayfield 30 year old (3 years X $3,500,000 per) If Scheen can play with Hughes at 33 , then Mayfield can do it at 30 (solid Defensive Dman) Luke Schenn 33 year old (3 years X $1,250,000 per) This contract is a reward and statement contract, one who shows the young guys what team loyalty can bring) Jake Livingstone 3 years at $925,000. This is actually done immediately after his season is over! (May?) September 15th......after paying Tyler Myers his $5,000,000 bonus, we trade Myers Kuzmenko..............Pettersson..............Beauvillier Mikheyev...................Miller....................Podkolzin Garland......................Raty....................Kravtsov Joshua......................Aman...................Lazar Studnika Hughes...................Mayfield Pettersson..............Hronek OEL.........................Bear Brsiebois.................Schenn Demko Silovs This is a approx. $83,000,000 Cap hit of a $83,500,000 Cap Ceiling 3 5 1 1
Bob.Loblaw
Trade Myers for what? We obviously need to either retain cap or receive cap in return. You're also not including Tanner Pearson here. We are already over the cap for next year. We need to dump salary, and do it fast.

Now, this is the kind of detail I expect from everybody who whines that the team needs to be gutted and blown up and torn apart, but who also do not offer anything constructive. I might swap out Wolanin for Brisebois and bring in Johansson in place of Schenn, although I totally get why you'd want Schenn back.

After Sept 15th he is only owed $1,000,000 for the remainder of his contract, but will have a $6,000,000 cap hit. Basement teams will love him. 2

Myers' cap hit actually becomes attractive to bottom teams looking to rebuild as it helps them reach the cap floor by 6 mill while only costing 1 mill. I would be surprised if a team like Arizona isn't all over that.
Coconuts
I question whether Myers will be easy to get rid of and I'm not remotely sold on Raty as a 3C. Likely needs a year in Abbotsford imo, he's still young enough to learn in the AHL. And where's Pearson? I also question the wisdom of having Silovs as our backup, I think he'd be better served getting more reps as a starter down in Abbotsford if the idea is to groom him to eventually take over for Demko. Sylas
That’s another bad team, but probably good enough to draft 7-10 overall missing out on the great prospects.
BigTramFan
Nice one Jan. I hope these are the kind of moves that we will make! I do wonder if PIT would make the Boeser + Rathbone for Pettersson deal that you propose. Pettersson has had an excellent season and has made a permanent move into the top 4 in PIT. He is finally performing to his contract and they have him signed for 2 more years (exactly the same length of Sid's contract and so those 2 years define their window). So with Dumoulin's contract expiring, I think they rather hold onto Pettersson than adding another winger. Also with Granlund signed for the next 2 seasons, I don't know if they feel they need another top 6 winger when a top 4 LD fills a bigger need for them. I know Zucker is expiring this season, but with a top 6 of: Sid, Geno, Guentzel, Rakell, Rust, Granlund, I think they are pretty sorted. nuckin_futz
Where does Livingston go after we sign him for 3 years? He's nowhere in your lineup. I assume Abby? Podkolzin as a 2nd line winger is more than a bit of a stretch. At this point he looks like a tweener AHL/NHL. Raty looks overwhelmed in the AHL. How is he our 3rd line center? I agree you've made the team better but it's still a tire fire. Unless Demko has a career year I'm afraid that lineup fails to make the playoffs and drafts around 13th. Which is depressing. Schenn would cost far less. If we walked in to next year with Hughes - Hronek OEL - LIvingstone Bahl/Tryamkin - Schenn Extra: Wolanin, Burroughs I would be happy with those upgrades. Added some scoring punch on the right side with Hronek, Livingstone has loads of potential. Bahl or Tryamkin play with edge and can make our PK better and we all know what Schenn provides. Those first two units will play most of the minutes in my opinion, with only 15 minutes a night left over most likely. Hronek also probably takes over PP2 from OEL. Hronek also apparently kills penalties, and was on PK2 for Detroit. I'd even say someone like Wolanin on league minimum, paired with Bear would be ideal for the third pairing. Then we just bite the bullet and buyout OEL. Use the cap space to upgrade the 3C position, I don't think Raty is ready. With a defensively reliable 3C that can also run PK1 and win faceoffs, your lineup looks really good.

I would be surprised if a team like Arizona isn't all over that. You guys are vastly overestimating Myers' trade value here. There will only be a select few teams that are prepared to tank on day one: Chicago, Arizona, San Jose, and (maybe) Columbus. Sharks and Jackets are up against the cap. Every other struggling team (ie. Anaheim, Montreal, Philly, Vancouver!!!) will at least try to improve upon last year's performance. As JIAHN said, we would have to wait until Sept 15 to make any type of trade. Do you realize how late in the game that is? We'd have to wait until preseason to even think about becoming cap compliant, and so would the team we're trying to trade with. If Arizona wants to reach the floor, they're going to try and figure that out well before opening night. If for some reason they play along and wait, they have plenty of other options than us, and extort us for everything we have to take on bad contracts. We would have to fork up a prospect and/or draft pick to get rid of Myers. In other words, Myers' contract is an anchor right now, and it will still be an anchor in September. He has an extremely negative trade value, which means Vancouver will have to pay a hefty price just so Myers can play against them. There is no simple way that the Canucks can get out of cap hell. There is only the hard way - sacrificing assets.
