[Signing] Devils re-sign Jesper Bratt

Recommended Posts

That Jack Hughes contract is a godsend. I've said it a few times, but it's great when your star player is on a great contract. Cause it's the baseline for the players that follow. "How can we justify paying you more than Jack?" There go the negotiations. Bratt can hold out obviously. Make a stink, force his way out. But I mean, why? Just make nearly 8mil playing with one of the most dynamic centers in the NHL. Can't help but be a bit of a Devils fan with Hughes, Hughes, Mercer, Marino, Sieganthaler, Haula, and Bratt. A lot of players I really like.

Little pricey for a small scoring winger, but 8 year length will probably make it look much better.

In line with Caufield.

Never quite hit PPG, he's a small one-dimensional scoring winger who has two consecutive 73 point seasons. Seems pretty fair. Looking back at the JT Miller deal, 8M for a two-way center who does it all and is scoring more than Bratt looks like a bargain. Obviously Jesper has plenty of time on his side to blow this contract out of the water and score more and more, but he's the sort of player who could easily dip after his contract later on and be a very expensive 2nd or 3rd line winger.

To be clear, he is a very high-end offensive talent.  The fact that half the folks here are discussing the whole "can't make more than Jack" argument shows that Bratt probably deserved to be paid more.

Lol, and folks on here want to trade JT Miller. Miller is so much a better player than this guy. Love JT and what he brings and so glad we have him locked up.

As these little one dimensional wingers (First Caufield and now Brat) get signed to similar contracts as Miller it just shows how Miller took a team friendly deal to stay with us. Bo got 68 million! Miller is a much better player than these guys, and by a significant amount.

Absolutely, and can play center to boot.

Let’s see if you feel the same way in a few years, when Miller’s play start to deteriorate and we’re stuck with him for 4 more years at 8m. While Bratt will probably still be productive at the age of 28.

JT will be fine and with the cap going up the 8 million per isn't that bad. JT is the way better player for the first five years at least is my guess, plays with edge, plays center, and won't dissappear at playoff time. JT was killer in the Rangers run years ago. It's not just points, it's being tough to play against even if you aren't putting up points.
