Scratch him off the list.  Time for our young guys to get a chance -- Woo, Johansson, Juulsen, Burroughs, etc

It can be both.  Give the young guys a chance until Bear heals up and then see where we're at.  There will, of course, be more injuries to deal with.  GCG!

6 months?!?

That would be like mid to late December before he would be cleared to play. He would've missed a lot of hockey and training time to get in shape and improve his game. That is like half the season right there. Now its about rehab and getting his shoulder back to strength, rather than building and finding growth in his game. I like Bear personally, but that is brutal news. This franchise needs to have players hitting the ground running and at full speed, to not equate another season like the past two.

Not sure I'd be willing to pay him 2+ mil at this point let alone giving him term. Man a huge miscalculation on Bear's part and it significantly hurts us now.

Honestly, this is a big pile of who cares.

He is a bottom pair dman on a good team.
He doesn’t crack the line up on a contender, but we were about to give him a raise on 2.2 mill.
I’m glad we didn’t sign him.
You can’t improve the team by paying more money for the same sub par players.
This is a blessing is disguise for the Canucks

Rutherford named him in his end of season letter as part of their group of upcoming players with Kuzmenko/Hronek.   They might just want to retain him and this injury makes the Canucks' cap situation more challenging.

Man I would not want to be a smallish PMD that PA trades for.
Dermott and now Bear.  Heck, Hronek was injured when we got him.
PA time to start looking for size on D. These mid sized guys aren’t holding up.

Let this be a warning to other players, the IIHF tourney is simply not worth it

Definitely not in a season where your contract has expired. Just a silly decision. However, it actually helps the Canucks. Either you don't re-sign him or you can low ball and our cap issues are not as bad now.

How does it make the cap more challenging? Its less challenging. You've got LTIR space. You can low ball, and even if its 2 mil, he's out 1/2 the year so you have him on LTIR day 1, and he's not affecting our cap at all until he comes back. By then other moves can be made. It actually helps us because one of the concerns was his cap hit if we re-signed him,

Surely this is it for him, we can't afford to spend 2.2M on a guy who will start the year on LTIR, take up our relief and then when he comes back (after a pretty big surgery mind you), hope he slips into the team.

If we was our lazy way out of finding Hughes replacement, well we're without one now in any case.

Bear's play started slipping towards the end of last year, his job is very replaceable from within. We have Burroughs, Johansson, heck even Woo and Juulsen are options to playing 15-18 minutes a night on the right side.

Hopefully this will force us into acquiring a true top-4 defenceman. Otherwise we better be ready to play Hronek like a dog 22-24 minutes a night, Myers will get 20 minutes a night no matter how bad he is and then one of the fringe AHLers will get the remaining 16-18 minutes.

It's a real a real challenge to have a player come back from LTIR mid-season.  They can't replace him with a player at the same cap hit because they have to keep the cap difference available to be able to activate him.

Once he comes back they need to find the 2M in cap space to activate him.  If they replaced him with a 2M player and demote that player to the AHL they would only clear 1.15M - ie his 2M replacement even once demoted would still be on the cap for 850K which then doesn't allow to activate Bear unless they find the 850K elsewhere.
