Wouldn't be fair to other teams tbh, we've gotta at least give them a fair chance

It’s true if one team starts winning games 86-0 and doesn’t lose a single game in regulation, hockey becomes kind of boring

This interview just keeps getting better with age

Daniel: "Talking to Oliver, he took full responsibility for the last couple years."

Mgmt: That statement is literally meaningless.

Daniel: "He loves the pressure of being 'the guy'."

Mgmt: He's not 'the guy'.

Daniel: "He'll do anything to help the team win."

Mgmt: He does less than nothing

Mgmt: (*clicks "buyout player"*)

For everyone saying we should have retained on OEL for 4 years instead of the buyout for 8, OEL had a NMC and declined to waive it twice. He wasn’t going anywhere, anytime soon other than a buyout.

I can see us using our 11th overall to draft a Dman (Willander) so in years 3 and 4 we have a ELC contract when we owe $4.7 million towards the Cap (two biggest buyout years owed)

There has been a lot of smoke around the Rangers for a few years and I could see something around one of Schneider, Miller, Lafrenier coming our way.

There's nothing we can offer the Rangers for Schneider unless you want to throw away 1st round picks for him.

He's on the last year of his entry level deal. Those of the kinds of players they are going to keep.

That's a lot of money saved in the first 2 years.  $13 million. And they need that money.  OEL was never going to live up to his contract.  Yes, the Canucks will pay through the nose in years 3 and 4 but with the cap going up that will take some of the sting off and the last 4 years it's slightly over $2 mill per year which is much more manageable over time than paying  $7 mill over the next 4 years to a player that's not NHL caliber anymore. He wouldn't make most teams 8th D

My biggest thing is they can’t stop now and replace him with a 5m defenseman and a 3m dollar 3C. If that’s all they do, we go absolutely nowhere

Half measure and handicaps us bigly

They need to churn out more salary and finish the “major surgery”.

2x more top-4 dedenseman and a 3C, along with a bottom-6 winger that can kill penalties + a backup goalie that can win us a few games

at minimum they’ll need another 5-8 million

I do think the Canucks are done.  There's still LTIR money coming back ($4-$5mill) and they can still pay out Myers signing bonus and trade him for a second round pick. Ownership seems willing to pay millions to fix Benning's mistakes.  That will save the Canucks an additional $6 million. I predict a few more big changes before the season starts.

Yea another great suggestion! I even saw Nashville writers proposing Johansen to Vancouver as he is need of a change of scenery.

Garland for Carlo & Reilly would be another good one with Reilly in his last year.

Garland for Geekie, Driedger + pick since Driedger’s contract ends and could be a decent temporary backup.

Other targets:

Brendan Dillon

Matt Grzelcyk

Tyler Johnson

Shea Theodore

Josh Bailey

Why does the buyout make Garland a better trade piece all of a sudden?
Just curious. If this was to help facilitate a Garland trade, it would kinda look like a symbolic gesture of ridding the team of that entire trade.

Boston needs to unload cap so I like the idea of taking Reilly off their hands + grabbing Carlo in the process

indont think we can send cap back their way though

Love to pry Frederic away from them.
We do badly need toughness.

Because teams know we are not now strapped by the cap and we won't add a sweetener. He has value now.

Oof no thanks

need to give him a full season worth of games

let him cook in Abby, once he puts up numbers like Dustin wolf, he’s ready

I've been a beer league goalie for over 20 years. I know wtf I'm talking about. Ashl 2011 all star, d div....mic drop

Why would you want to stunt his development by giving him 15-20 games

when he could be playing 60 games in Abbotsford

if we want him to be our starter one day he needs to play 60 games this season

and probably next season again until he definitively proves he’s too good for the AHL

again exactly like Dustin wolf

First of all I'm drunk AF at the casino so trade demko, Vegas won with freaking Dell. Silovs is starter and get in a old vet as needed like Talbot

I heard a report they were not as impressed with him after last season and the playoffs. Again, I don’t have a source but if my memory serves me right it was reported.
