Popular Post Elias Pettersson
Here is it folks. The greatest hockey player of all time certainly needs his own thread. Wayne Gretzky is my favourite hockey player of all time. I think I watched every game he played, well as many as humanly possible without being an Edmonton Oilers season ticket holder. Many of you may be too young to have every watched Gretzky play. The Youtube videos do not do Gretzky any justice. Watching him live in person at the Pacific Coliseum or on TV was much much better than some Youtube clips. If you watched Pavel Bure play, then that would be only about 20% of what Wayne Gretzky could do. When players were getting 100 points, Gretzky was getting 200 points. It's impossible to believe this unless you actually watched him play. The Edmonton Oilers of the 1980's were the greatest team ever IMO. Just a joy to watch for so many years. If that team had been able to stick together, they probably would have won 9-10 cups. Kurri, Messier, Anderson, Coffey. Oh boy. Watching Coffey skate up the ice was a thing of beauty. But the most beautiful thing ever was watching Wayne Gretzky play hockey and absolutely dominate his opposition like no other player ever has. I know some of you will say Bobby Orr is the greatest hockey player ever, and if Orr was able to play 20 years, he may certainly have been. Mario Lemieux is also a consideration of course as well. But IMO it is Wayne Gretzky without a doubt. Orr and Lemieux did not have the longevity of Gretzky. If they had this is a different conversation. But the player with 2,857 points is certainly the greatest hockey player of all time... 2 2

But I thought he did a great job. His character was kind of a “prick” too.

But that was when D were supposed to stay home. OV is great too. 1

Ray Bourque Paul Coffey Rocket Richard Patrick Roy Terry Sawchuk Jacques Plante Phil Esposito I would have them and probably a few more (e.g. Bobby Hull, Doug Harvey) ahead of your second tier candidates except maybe Crosby. And then it's also not really possible to give Howie Morenz, Joe Malone and Vladislav Tretiak the fair shake they deserve in these things.
