Marty, and I can't believe anyone would consider someone else.

GP, wins, GAA, SO, goals, points...

Most marriages to members of the same family.

edit:  ok, that's a cheapshot...I'll put myself into the penalty box (no posting for a day) as I'm in a bad mood.:P

There are a lot of things to consider: era played in, team success, influence, regular season performance, playoff success,

awards, longevity, 5-7 peak year performance, etc. The 7 listed goalies are almost certainly in the top ten NHL goalies of

all time. The age and personal bias of the voter will affect the rankings. Even an intelligent, long time player, coach,

and fan as myself cannot pick who is #!. ::D

Love these discussion about greatest at positions, or players ranked against each other all time.  This one is tough, a lot of contenders for different reasons.  The record books and the teams they played behind say it should be either Roy or Hasek for what they achieved (Brodeur benefitted from his era and Stevens and Niedermeyer too much to be #1, but his trophy hardware is compelling), but if you take into account the whole package, of how off ice affected/could have affected on ice performance, in my mind no one is better than Terry Sawchuk.  For what the man went through and played through, to have won and played at such as high level throughout his career, no one at his position can compare to that.  Greatest clutch goalie, though, could very well be Grant Fuhr.  The Oilers of the 80s were all flash and dash, with no defensive awareness to speak of, and Fuhr made that whole show work because he was always there when needed (could be beaten by routine shots when not focused, but when he was ON, only his own player could beat him, which cost the Oilers a chance at 5 cups in a row).  Take into account that he was coked up most of the time by his own admission, and that makes what he was able to do even more impressive.

Hasek. Even all terrible teams, he consistently won games and made insane saves.

Roy was initially great, bringing in his butterfly style, but mid-career Roy was extremely over-rated... his pads grew so big, he was basically a cut out.

Huh.  He wasn't Garth Snow.   Actually just like every goalie of that era, his save percentage just kept going up and up and up.

I've never seen a goalie do what Roy did his second Conn Smythe.   And for Broduer fans, he beat him 3-1, game seven,  and also had to win game six just to do that ... for his third and final Conn Smythe (more than any player) in 2001.

Shout out to Smithers Joe.   Just so the rest of you know, Sawchuk also is considered the best all-time by THN.   Check out his shut out ratio.   It's nuts.  And well cups are cups too.   Hasek was pretty unreal, I don't think there was a goalie better than him for a 4-5 year period ever.     Plante should also be on this list (with a vote...Old timers?)   Dryden and Parent were also pretty amazing, Dryden's save percentage was .923 or something and Parents just PHI was pretty awesome too.

Who's next?  Roy.  Then Broduer.  Then Plante.  Then ??  not sure maybe Hall, then Hasek (6), then Dryden (7) THN list, not mine.

Edit:  I picked Roy.  Because he changed the game.  And was just stupid good when it mattered.   Good choices though.

Best overall:  Dominik Hasek

Best playoff goalie:  Patrick Roy

Agreed on both points. Sawchuck is a close 3rd, IMO...

This always starts an argument, but I honestly believe that Dryden doesn't even belong on the list. I'd put Tony 0 or Bernie Parent in before KD...
