[discussion] forum closure

With the closing of this forum and now the termination of the Vancast, the two ways I engaged with the Canucks the most are gone.  43 year old male, maybe I'm not the demographic they're looking for anymore.  But if I become less engaged with Canucks hockey, so will, most likely, my 9 and 11 year old boys.

I used to work in radio, the statistic of talk radio listeners who actually call-in is less than two percent. I'm assuming discussion boards are similar, I know I read the boards often but only post sporadically when something requires my toxic brand of sarcasm. Engagement numbers only catch the hard core folks, not the lurkers of which there are probably three to four times more than the actively engaged.

I think they're taking a sliver of a sample size and using that without context or realizing that 500 people in the summer is a lot more than any other team likely has.

I mean, it's the offseason and people go off in the summer and do other things.

Come on board for the home opener or after we string a few wins together and I bet that number increases a great deal.

I think they just are talking out of their blowholes and don't have a clue. And I don't even care anymore.

I checked at least once a week over the summer, but aside from the signings there was practically no news, it's why Canucks Talk takes a summer break and why IMac went to Scottland over the summer. The offseason is not the time to measure engagement!

It's really sad that they don't value ALL fans.

By showing that attitude they'll likely lose more than they gain.

I'm a lifer and am not going anywhere...but people like to be treated like they matter. They have choices in how/where they spend their time and their hard earned money. I just feel it's very short sighted and this place had stood the test of time. Not sure they're going to get that with SM hit and run sites.

For sure, I'll be a Canuck lifer too, but so many things are pushing me towards baseball being the #1 sport, compared to hockey.  Never did enroll my boys in hockey.  High cost and inability to not get them to early morning ice times were the barriers.  They play baseball almost all year round now and curl in the winter.  Their biggest connection to hockey (and by extension Canucks hockey) is me.  Decisions like this doesn't set them up well for them being Canuck lifers.

Racism? When? What thread? Seems like an excuse to me.

The easiest way to shut down discourse you don't like is to claim that it is offensive. I am surprised any of the other 'phobias' weren't thrown around to cover all the bases.

Very true. Being offended is a choice at the end of the day. That choice has become a sad and banal pastime.

These folks should attend a GDT. Then they’d see.
