Watched a bunch of footage and interviews with this kid and he’s the first person since Horvat I’ve got captain vibes from. Some people like Hughes/Pettersson but I just don’t see it with those guys. Willander commands himself like a leader, mature beyond his years and has confidence to back it up. Big fan of this pick.

People are looking at his points and not realizing that Hronek does nothing to address the fact that we need defenseman that can play defense more than anything. Hronek is not a strong defender. He’s the kind of guy you add to man your powerplay if you have no offense coming out of the back end like Barrie or Krug. He’s not someone a team who has Quinn fukcing Hughes should be paying a 1st and 2nd for. Absolutely pathetic trade.

I think this short term spurt against a string of strong teams gives us an opportunity to see what we have in our forward core. If we put together a solid winstreak in Boeser’s absence and scoring consistently I wouldn’t be opposed to packaging Boeser ++ for a top pairing RHD. if you’re going to go all in, do it right.

As someone who is contract illiterate, is OEL’s contract buyout friendly in the latter years? I can’t imagine the team will want him sticking around for more than 2-3 years going forward. Especially at that cap hit.

Miller only makes sense if our Cup window is the next 3-4 years, which it isn’t. We are 3-4 years away from even being a threat in the playoffs. Primarily because we are loaded with bloated contracts that have resulted in our horrendous defense. And there’s nothing we can do about it for the foreseeable future. Ship Miller off, he deserves to see playoff action in his prime. Get the absolute haul that GMJR will get for him, and retool into a team with an identity and clear timeline. Benning built this ugly Frankenstein thing with slabs of crap added to a good core.

If I had to choose one, Horvat. If I had the option to choose who to sell, both. We need a hard retool around Hughes and Pettersson.

If Boudreau ends up being a plug lover this honeymoon phase is about to end. Those line choices in OT were borderline sabotage. Trade Hoglander if you aren’t going to give him the respect he deserves as one of the team’s top offensive threats.

I hope we get a GM before the deadline who can sink their teeth into Miller trade talks. For what he can fetch for us Miller has to be dealt. We are not going to compete in his prime so it makes zero sense to keep him around. Get that young RHD and a 1st.

Quite jealous of the Ducks rebuild. They’re in a real good position moving forward.

I believe we can make the playoffs. Anything can happen with a functional offense and Vezina caliber netminder. I’m not going to pretend like I think we’re in a better position heading into the playoffs than last time though. Our defense is putrid. We’ll get eaten alive by the big boys of the conference in round 1 or 2.

Even the way the firing was handled reeks of incompetency. Waiting to hire a coach before you fire the guy behind the bench. Hiring a coach before you hire a GM. Everything is short term band aid fixes with this management and there is zero foresight. Just, ugh.
