The disaster with Hodgson wasn't necessarily the trade at the end (although I'm not sold that it was the best deal that could have been made) but how he was handled throughout in terms of development, training, health, etc. which ended up at the point that he was asking to be traded.
while there is plenty to criticize about the scouting and drafting, I think a bigger problem is that the Canucks have failed to establish a proper development approach for their young players. People comment on how Detroit can do so well with late picks and such and a lot of that is how they develop their players and find their roles.
