  1. BY WHO? You keep blurting this out as if it is a fact without providing any solid evidence that the general consensus is indeed Ekblad, while I've given you evidence that suggest otherwise.

I just gave you the #1 players for ISS and CSS rankings, and both their names are not EKBLAD, and start with "SAM." How is Ekblad the best player in this draft pool when the TWO major rankings both say that he's not #1...

Jones was #1 on BOTH ISS and CSS rankings last year leading up to the draft so he was the consensus #1 leading up to the draft... The only reason Colorado's pick wasn't a surprise is because Colorado said from the beginning that they would take MacKinnon - JUST like Florida is right now with Ekblad.

Follow up with Hope Smoke / Corey Pronman / Bob McKenzie's twitter - Ekblad is the only Elite Star prospect out of this bunch of kids. Tell me why Bennett & Reinhart didn't get granted exceptional status either, which said something about the guy since day 1

If Kesler wasnt wanting out I'd take Ekblad in a heartbeat

  2. According to Joe Smith, Lightning GM Steve Yzerman said they are considering re-signing goaltender Anders Lindback. The Lightning like Andrei Vasilevskiy and Kristers Gudlevskis, but they want them to play. Ben Bishop will carry a heavy load as the teams No. 1 goalie. Meanwhile, Jim Matheson can see the Lightning taking a took at Martin Brodeur as a potential backup to Ben Bishop. Yzerman said theyve had some really good discussions with Ryan Callahan and are hopeful that they can get a deal done by July 1st.

Drop Cannata to the ECHL for more play time, assign Markstrom & Eriksson to the AHL and Lack/Lindback duo for the Canucks... Mmmm how Swede is that?

  3. Yes, he could go to the AHL right away but i don't think that's appropriate. CHL would be interesting, but the top2 swedish leagues are good. Can't really say it would hurt his development if he stayed in Sweden.

I think it'd be best for him to adapt to the NA style asap, placing him with the juniors ... not a fan of. Why not give him a head start and start from 3rd line minutes at the AHL?

    Add on:

Imagine Shinkaruk & Nylander building a strong chemistry!

  4. I think even with the desperation many fans on this board have for a top line potential centerman in Reinhart, not moving up may be the best for the Canucks after all. Considering it'll go Ekblad, Reinhart, Bennett... Draisital Dal Colle Nylander Ehlers will all be great additions. providing another pick in the 1st round with a Kesler "move" hopefully before the draft - the 10th pick we could still get Virtanen or Fiala there

you can never have enough offensive talent in forwards... I'm hoping Sanheim is on Benning's radar we don't need to take a dmen like Fleury with

  5. I think these moves could boost our rebuild.

    To van:

    Vatenen, 10th overall, 2014 1st (ana)

    To ana:

    Kesler, 3rd round pick 2015

    To van:

    5th overall pick

    To NYI:

    10th overall pick, Tanev, Schroeder

    5th overall- Nylander

    6th overall- drasitl

Kesler is not getting moved at draft time get with the program haha

The only dmen that should be leaving is Garrison and perhaps Tanev if he's demanding too much

  6. button should retire as an analyst and take up stand-up comedy. this guy has me roaring rignt now. lmao Hosang and virtanen in the second round hahahahah

That's cause he doesn't do these rankings for a mock draft genius. He does these in prediction of their potentials and hoe high they'll peak. Look at McKenzie's rankings for mock draft.

  7. I am just saying I find it perplexing that some people think Nylander will go top 6. This is a weak draft so I could see one of them going in the top 12.

Yeah? & according to who this is a weak draft now? All them scouters have been saying they're surprised with how most things went and upto the 4th round there will be quality players that could make it to the pro leagues

  8. I am one who hopes Benning moves us up in the draft to select Sam Bennett. If there is someone who is a strong and skilled two-way character player to be a cornerstone of the future Canucks team; it's this kid. He is who you need against LA, SJ and Anaheim; especially in the playoffs.

Supposedly thin and needs to add quite a bit of muscle. Style is Toews like but I think he'd end up as a Brayden Schenn/Mike Richards type perhaps Vinny Lecavalier.

Personally I'd take Reinhart just because I feel Bennett is sorta similar to Horvat. Can't go wrong with either.

Edit: dont get me wrong with the thin comment, I think he'd turn out as a great player. Cant remember the name of the coach/trainer but I wished all our prospects would join that training program the same one Stamkos Gaunce & CoHo attend

  9.

Hard to say...what would be interesting will be Gradin's view on him. If Gradin is adamant and we don't pick him (which we fans will never know) I would be pissed.

Gradin has been one of our best scouts

Last heard from Sekeres with his relations to the Canucks org. Nylander dropped down on the list so maybe they're not so high on him. Wonder what Kapanen's character like

  10. Don't get how you guys still think Kesler is still going anywhere

All these promises from Linden & Benning about making playoffs this year - there's no way you do that with trading Kesler so stop the Anaheims and Pittsburgh trade fantasies

If anyone is gonna be gone by next season opener it's going to be Garrison/Edler/Hansen/Sauve/Schroeder

Kesler will be here til trade deadline

And in that position trading for a 1st with a much nicer draft year may mean more than getting a 10th in Tuch cause he's definitely one of those guys JB would strongly consider

  11. The OHL playoffs go on long after the ISS and central scouting are done in April. Then the info is absorbed over weeks as film is looked at. People on the ground are interviewed. Etc. Since many of the high end draft picks are still playing its very difficult to rank them until the memorial cup is over.

The combine is very important to teams. We get to see exactly how tall and how much they weigh. Not what their agent wants us to believe. They interview the prospects which changes each teams order more than most realize. . The combine actually matters a lot to teams.

I understand Button is loathed right now. He put Virtanen at #41. He will never live it down . Not until Virtanen is drafted by another team then we just wont care anymore. Mac Kenzie is very good because he is well connected.

ISS and Central Scouting are not very accurate forecasters. Teams do not pay the staff of these entities. They hire their own scouts.

The scouts hired by the teams work for the teams. There is no 'scouts working for the NHL' head office or something. The whole point to scouting is to feed the information to the teams so they can draft. Who is head office is going to draft? These are broad strokes that are painted.

Both ISS and SCC have very limited budgets. The agencies cannot scout all the prospects properly. You can tell who they key in on. In their reports they have updated heights and weights for the prospects. The ones they ignore have the same garden variety stats that were put out last year in training camp.

Mac Kenzie and others who are well connected get tips from scouts and insiders for many teams. They simply have access to more information than ISS or SCC does. The best thing of all to do is take the most updated lists and make an average . This will provide us historically with the best gauge of where the players will be drafted if there are no major surprises.

The way CB has his rankings is by how they eventually turn out as a pro and not a mock draft like many people here on CDC assume

Listening to his podcast he found it was hard to compile the first 100 on the list cause there's so much potential this year (in his opinion)

He says bob's is more of a mock draft ranking and at the same time shows how prospects rise/drop their stock
