  1. At 6th pick- Nylander

This guy could end up being the best pick in the draft. His composure, patience, vision and skill with the puck are unbelievable. He's got 1st line future player written all over him. This is the type of player the Nucks need. He's not only good but he's entertaining. With proper coaching and maturity this kid will be awesome. Hopefully we can trade Kesler or edler and pick up another top 12 pick either this year or next. There's a lot of good players in this draft. I think this draft is very underrated

  2. Before I start, can we agree to keep any extravurrilcular activities he enjoys out of this thread. This is about him as a hockey player.

15 games into this season I was aboard the Buyout David Booth train. He was slow, he didn't seem motivated and he didn't have JT's trust, obviosuly. No brainer buyout at 4 and change right?

But now as we enter the second half of the season I think we should reconsider this.

I am very happy about his dedication to coming back, maybe not at a 30 goal pace, but at a point where he is a good player and can contribute. He has regained at least some of his speed, and while his balance may not be completely there, he looks dangerous at least a couple times a game. And he is working hard on the forecheck and laying the body

He is also one of the few canucks who can just bury their head and drive the net. He hasn't converted, on a few of them but they are glorious chances and refreshing to see from the cycle along the boards.

People forget that in his first year here, he scored 16 goals in just 56 games thats good for a 25 goal pace.

If you rewind to the playoff series against LA, true he didn't score, but neither did a bunch of the Canucks (there was this guy named Quick...). However, he was an absolute horse, hitting everything he could and it was fun to watch.

Obviously if he regresses or gets injured again, then the tune will change, but if he can keep up this level of play, with the cap going up to 71. If we can integrate lower salary young players like Horvat and Corrado, and maybe move Edler, I think it'd be in our best interest to keep the guy.

Inflation. Cap goes up salary for potential signings go up. David only has a year left after this one, if it doesn't work out then you can let him go

No way at that cap hit...unless of course he goes on a tear, and kicks but the rest of the season and playoffs! Btw he's not on that tear right now; he's just playing decent. 4.2 mil is a lot of cap space for a guy who just plays ok, and previously was either injured or played horrible

  3. im tired of this "twins need a linemate" alot of great players have been stranded with 2 sub par players on their line... look at what rick nash had in columbus...a first line that had him and 2 3rd liners with him... the guy still put up big numbers.... the sedins are 2/3rds of the line..... if they are elite players they shouldnt need a 3rd to make difference.... but thats where they are today as players neither of them want to shoot ... the creativity is gone and they look like they did before they broke out as superstars and thats just a ton of plays along the boards and minimal chances going towards the net... the odd time they make a pass or play that makes you think they are back but it doesnt last....for the most part they look like they are waiting for other lines to draw a penalty so they can eat up most of the PP time.

I couldn't agree more! Our pp looks horrible, and they're both on it 80% or more of the time. 5/5 they look slow, and the other teams first line outplays them practically every game. I'm tired of hearing how its Hansen or burrows fault all the time. Last night we noticed seguin and Benn the whole game and against Minny, it was all parise and koivu; tonight its all kane...where are the bloody twins?

  4. He's done some stupid things, and at times plays with his head in the clouds, but the raw talent is there. He plays like he's a boy still but showing signs of becoming a man in a mans sport; especially as a power forward/ fighter. When he matures(everyone does it at diff pts of their lives) he'll become a good player. It doesn't help that as a whole we are less than stellar as a team when it comes to mental/emotional side of things; when things get down in games, we tend to fall apart and take bad penalties and start chasing the game. Giving up one goal on a turnover or bad bounce tends to lead to bad stretches that lead to the other team scoring in bunches. Kassian is an emotional and immature while on the ice guy, so our leaders, eg edler, bieksa, Kesler and sometimes even the sedins, need to grow up and start showing these guys the right way to handle situations etc

  5. Positives:

    Booth, Bieksa, Tostitos, Tanev, Lack

    Negatives:

    Rest of the team

Needs to spend some time in the pressbox and learn how to play defense:

    Edler

Completely agree! Really like seeing Booth score a beauty, but the best part of the game was seeing bieksa destroy Boyle

  6. My issue with this is as follows.

Erat is on the wane in his career.

Booth is still young and could improve again.

    Erat higher cap hit

    Booth bigger faster body

I just don't see Erat as being the end all be all for trades. If it is Booth for Erat it is barely a sideways trade in my opinion. But if it is a package deal that sees us netting Orlov/Brouwer/Johanssen than welcome to the team Erat.

Again, With Booth we have future potential. with Erat we see a person who might stay steady in production, but could possibly be on the wane as ti is. I think the worst possible outcome is a trade happens, Erat doesn't produce and Booth catches fire back in the skate happy east

Remember that I never proposed booth for Erat. All I've done is point out that booth isn't worth Erat. Honestly, that doesn't say much about Erat's worth either considering how bad booth has looked for yrs now. I don't want either of them. I want the cap space. I want a big trade. I want to trade players, like you do, that have worth, so we get a great package back. This team is stagnant, and in desperate need of a change. I also never said it was impossible to move guys with ntc's. in fact, most of my earliest proposals involved guys with ntc's and ppl kept bringing that point up rather than discussing the value and needs of both teams; with me assuming that the hockey knowledge on these forums was higher than most. Obviously ntc's can be worked out. It's happened before, so it can happen again but I bring it up so that guys responding don't say " but what about the NTC" etc etc. Gillis needs to figure this out now while these players have decent value, for this yr and on because the process isn't working as well as he thinks

  7. This is a GDT. That means if you are a real hockey fan, you get on an emotional coaster ride watching a game. Maybe that's something you haven't experienced. The rest of us get pssed when one of our players makes a bad or lazy play resulting in a goal against and we get ecstatic when our players make a great play and score. We probably over-react on a GDT, more than we would on a regular thread, (I admit I do). Both for the good and the bad and the ugly. Maybe one day you will also become such a fan of the game.

Beautifully put! Maybe all the wannabe mom and dads of the forum group that either don't think their crap stinks or have zero passion for this game or team should just stay off the forums. You're prob the same ppl that go to the games at GM place and sit on your hands...and think " I can't show any emotion because somebody may notice and judge me" boo hoo. I'll take some emotion and passion any day over your boring life; as long as it doesn't lead into fisticuffs why he F would you care?

  8. You really think we would give up anything special for a guy with 0 goals in 23 games? Even Booth has scored this year and he has been a healthy scratch as many times as Erat. Adding an ok prospect and a 3rd to Booth should be more than enough to get Erat.

I'm not saying we would have to give something special for Erat, but what I am saying is that Booth with that contract, his lack of production for several yrs, and his injury concerns is essentially a non starter from wash perspective. If we added an ok prospect and a 3rd then perhaps they'd do it but trying to get someone who's played well for his whole career except a quarter of this one, while being on a new team, doesn't = Booth. There's no doubt that Erat's value is at an all-time low but Booth is much much worse

  9. The thing is:

It's news to no one that Erat wants out of Washington - under normal circumstances he may have more value than Booth, but a publicized trade request, being a healthy scratch and in Dale Hunter's doghouse, as well as not quite producing up to expectations (part of which is obviously limited minutes and situational use) - all these things reduce McPhee's leverage to where moving him for a comparable cap hit and a player who is also struggling or recovering from injury isn't really unreasonable. Not many teams have cap space and not many teams are going to be willing to fork over much in assets under the circumstances imo.

I agree that Erat's value has come down but booth has zero value at that cap hit. If booth made 2.2 than it would be worth it. Other GM's have an advantage right now because of Erat's performance this yr and that he requested a trade but in saying that how the duck does Booth have any value right now. You think GM mikey has any advantage dangling that guy at that cap hit for this yr and next. If we're going to dangle the dazzling Booth than we'd have to give them an ok player as well; especial considering Erat's cap comes down to 2.5 next yr and booths stays at 4.2. Just being realistic

  10. You really think we would give up anything special for a guy with 0 goals in 23 games? Even Booth has scored this year and he has been a healthy scratch as many times as Erat. Adding an ok prospect and a 3rd to Booth should be more than enough to get Erat.

I think I explained myself quite well! Booth has no trade value period! If Erat had been struggling in his last year in Nashville as well, I may tend to agree with you. Some guys get traded and they just don't fit for whatever reason; family reasons, personnel reasons; hate the head coach etc. you don't write off a guy like Erat you played in a defensive first system for yrs, and put up decent pts, all because of his minimal time playing 3rd line mins in Washington; especially comparing it to a guy like Booth, who's game has been declining for years and has had one injury after another. If you were their GM would you take Booth back or look for a better option? Exactly

  11. That line would be buttery soft and would get manhandled in the playoffs.

I'd like to see a bigger trade like this:

    To Washingon:

    Edler, Booth, Schroeder

    To Vancouver

    Laich, Erat, Orlov

Solid hockey trade filling needs for both clubs, and allows both GM's to save face for questionable trades.

    Sedin-Sedin-Kesler

    Burrows-Laich-Erat

    Higgins-Santorelli-Hansen

    Weise-Richardson-Kassian

    Sestito

    Hamhuis-Bieksa

    Garrison-Tanev

    Stanton-Orlov

    Corrado

I like this trade! I think booth is a hard sell for anyone though; wash would have to think that there's a chance he comes back to decent form. Otherwise, from Canucks side I love it!

  12. The point people seem to be missing here:

Booth hit the 20 assist mark once in his career.

Erat has averaged 34 over the last 8 seasons. Between 28 and 41 every season (and on pace for 39 last year in Nashville).

He's on pace for 21 this year, despite 11 minutes a game in a depth role, etc.

There seems to be near unanimity that Kesler needs a playmaking wing.

There's also the matter of Booth needing to recover from injury, whereas Erat appears to be healthy, as he almost always is, just haven fallen out of favour, for whatever reason.

    Erat Kesler Hansen

    Erat Kesler Kassian

    Erat Kesler Burrows

Nothing wrong with these lines. Not as 'soft' as suggested.

Besides, Erat throws a hit a game. Booth 1 to 1.5 when he's healthy. Not really that significant a difference. Booth doesn't exactly block more shots than him.

That being said, I do like Booth's game when he's able to play it (aside from not appearing to have great awareness of his linemates). Perhaps a Booth Kesler Schroeder (who I think is going to be a hell of a player) combination could remedy the needs of Booth and Kesler - problem being of course, Schroeder's injuries.

Erat is an upgrade over Booth! He's been a consistent player throughout his career, except for his brief time in Washington. Most ppl have been at a job where they didn't either get along with the staff or boss or felt under used. Erat was traded for a top prospect in forsberg. If they're going to trade Erat to us, it sure wont be for Booth. The fact that some of you are actually saying that you wouldn't even take him for Booth shows your lack of hockey intelligence. Is Erat perfect...no but he would play top 6 here and if you decide to widen your intelligence a bit and look at a players overall career and his effective 2- way play rather than this anomaly that's happened in wash so far that may be because of other intangibles we don't know you'll realize that there's no way we get Erat for an often hurt, useless guy like Booth

  13. I think we needed to add toughness for that cup run, but then again, who would have known that the league would change the way the game is played.

Another thing that Gillis had to deal with in his term here.

Are people forgetting that he built the team with speed and skill, only to get the rule book turned upside down?

Hmmmm a couple things here...the rule book got turned around is a matter of opinion. After the Boston series, gillis decided he wanted to get bigger and tougher so he made a few player changes...how have those worked out so far gillis??? Not well buddy. The bruins got away with murder in that series but lets not forget one important thing ok...during those first two home games, the refs called a fair couple games; bruins were tame and then late in the 1st period of game 3 on the road a certain player named Rome changed everything. After that hit, the refs put away their whistles, and the bruins became the big bad bears, and we all know what happened so let's not reminisce. By the way, gillis had a lot of that speed and skill already in place before he got here. He added some great pieces though, and then well...took the wrong path! Just my humble opinion :)

  14. Just watched the tying goal and I noticed four mistakes.

1st-Booth can't get off a shot from the face off win

2nd-Edler goes for the hit when he should have laid off and played the puck.

3rd-Booth is the first forward back and should have covered the front of the net or supported the dmen down low. Instead he thinks Edler is gonna play the puck hard around the boards and turns to the boards.

4th- Kesler should have stayed with Richards instead of commiting to the pass block.

That goal was text book breakdown from one end of the ice to the other. After watching it four times over in slow mo. Even if one of those 4 mistakes didn't happen. That goal does not get scored.

Well put Momesso! Major breakdowns transitioning from O to D. Of course booth going to the boards was actually a good play; it was Edler who frakked the whole thing up with one of the stupidest timed hits I've seen from him this year...and that's saying a lot with his far to consistent bonehead plays

  15. This one hurts really bad! We played great! 2-3 horrible brain fart mistakes and boom were done. Edler goes for a big hit rather than just grabbing the puck and either playing it behind the net to his teammate or skating it behind the net himself. Stupid stupid stupid. Bieksa brain fart and Kesler fly-by coverage on that 2nd goal, making that pass to the front as easy as it gets. Unreal. I don't blame Lu for most of these games but a big save there would have been nice. His post game comments seemed like he was so down on himself. The guy tries so hard and has done so much, but hey you're a starting goalie and make big bucks, so come back strong big guy and please please give eddy and bieksa a smack for me and tell them to wake the duck up

  16. So how are people feeling about our D now?

I've been reading many posts about our d corps being solid.. Mmmmm not so much.

Still can't score.. PP looking fragile.. This team is in a lot of trouble unfortunately.

Thank you for agreeing with my earlier post. Our D is overrated and often makes critical mistakes. We are average at best, and usually Lu keeps us in it. Not tonight though! Friggin sucks how much $ is tied up in our D, and for how long

  17. I love this team but they are frustrating me so much right now. The only time we win is when the other goalie has an off night. We make every opposing goalie look like a vezina candidate. Lu is playing well but when will he steal a game for us? Burr, wow are you either the most unluckiest player alive, or you've lost it buddy. It's so darn frustrating seeing all these other teams in the west win all the time too. It doesn't seem like to long ago that when the nucks are down 1-2 goals that u feel they'll come back, but not anymore. As soon as Chicago scored that weak 2nd goal it felt like heartbreak

  18. We're in a very bad slump right now. Tonight was probably the worst game of the year! Ok it was the worst game by a mile but the seasons not over. We have a chance. We were blindsided (although aren't mngt supposed to see this stuff coming) by the sudden decrease in the cap, were stuck with Booth and his big contract etc. We are right up against the cap. Virtually all our decent players have a NTC or NTM'S. this is probably not our year but we can still make the playoffs, and hey guess what...the good news is that the cap apparently goes up next year, booth will be gone, we have some really good to great prospects etc...

I'm reading almost everybody dissing each other, which is quite entertaining by the way, but it's only because we friggin love this team. Things will get better but please let people vent. Don't protect the almighty forum by spending time talking about how stupid someone is or fighting negativity with more negativity or you know nothing about this forum etc etc. Read it, laugh or cry or whatever but all u wannabe gatekeepers please get a life!
