Thatcher, it seems, is having his AHL growing pains as well. Made 26 saves out of 31 shots faced in a 7-4 home loss to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Not to worry, though. Cory Schneider had his AHL growing pains with the Manitoba Moose and look what happened.

Schneider actually had a good rookie season in the AHL at roughly the same age as Demko.

    Schneider 36gp, 21-12-2 .916 SV% 2.28 GAA

    Demko 26gp, 9-11-4 .893 SV% and 3.03 GAA

    Schneider then had seasons of:

    40gp, 28-10-1, .928 SV% 2.04 GAA

    60gp, 35-23-2, .919 SV% 2.51 GAA

So if Demko is going to be compared with Schneider then he needs to finish this season strong and have 2 strong seasons in 17-18 & 18-19 before he is ready to be the Canucks back up.

This is so funny. Lets reap in the logic.

    1) Tkachuk is helluva player, sure doing extremely well for being in a perfect situation for his skill set.

    2) Impact player not so much. He again was placed in a smart position by the coach as a support player just like Kunitz.

    3) Chemistry of line mates has a lot to do with his success thus far. Just about any player with some skill and drive could produce with two top 20 NHL players if the chem is there. Burrows with the Sedins.

    4) Being placed with two top 20 NHL player in their prime and getting better only works in Tkachuk favor. It no secret Tkachuk success on London was his hard work along the boards along with his skill to get the puck to two highly skill players in Dvorak and Marner. He is doing the same in the NHL. He also can drive the play every once in a while, but I think Thachuk might be the luckiest player in line mates that complement his playing style.

    5) Would not happen for Thachuk in the same way on just about any other team.

    6) Thachuk could not have dreamed of a more perfect landscape for his development.  Perfect in every way for this kid.

Wow so you think Backlund and Frolik are both "top 20 NHL players"..? Because that's who Tkachuk has played the majority of the season with. Or did you just blindly assume that because Tkachuk was putting up points that he must be on the Monahan/Gaudreau line..?

  3. I wonder if his drastic reduction in shot totals is due to fatigue or other teams starting to figure out his role and are taking away his lanes and forcing him to pass or miss the net. 60 shots his first 20 games and 33 his last 21 games. Half as many shots.

No, because you're posting like a petulant child.

    Back to Boeser talk everyone.

How is that?...I'm posting based on ALL of the facts at hand...you clearly stated that you haven't been following Boeser closely and I most definitely have been..so its you who are posting as the "petulant child" because I am posting as the informed Canuck fan, you are not...back to REAL Boeser talk everyone

    Nice childish response.

He was off to a good start early in the year. I haven't been keeping close track since then. Sorry.

And no, I wouldn't be surprised if he played hurt for a while until he either aggravated it while playing or it became to sore to continue.

Yet you continue to post about it...if you're not the epitome of a fanboy then I don't know what is...

I wouldn't be surprised if he was for half that.

Bahahahahaha...gotta love when pathetic fanboys like you just utterly prove my point...No...Boeser wasn't injured for "half that"...you're just blindly agreeing with another fanboy based on his/her hearsay...oh man...don't you ever feel useless being completely wrong 99% of the time..?

I don't care enough to go check but I'm pretty sure he was scoring at a higher rate than last year before he was injured.

Now that he's injured it shouldn't be surprising that both his team and his stat lines have suffered.

Wrong on both, he had 1 goal in last 8 games prior to the injury and has only missed the last 3 games. Probably should have taken the 45 seconds to go check instead of looking like an uninformed fanboy.

The Canucks curse really needs to take a vacation. Another prospect down with injury prior to joining our club.
Thankfully this one sounds like a routinely recoverable injury, but hate to see this kid have to sit and watch hockey when he was having the season of his life.

It's statements like this that honestly make me think that half of the people on CDC never even bother to look at what players are actually doing and just rely on the hype and hearsay. Boeser is literally on pace to have lower #'s in pretty much every statistical category and UND is 6th in their conference and probably won't get anywhere near the Frozen Four this year but I'm willing to bet half the people here will blindly agree that he's "having the season of his life". Can anyone tell me, do they sell those Canuck coloured glasses at the team store at Rogers?

  9. This is by no means a reflection on Nikita, but in the 7 games he's played this season the Canucks have given up 28 goals (4 per game/avg). In the 10 games before he got into the lineup they gave up 27 goals (2.7 per game/avg). B)

Everyone should have expected an adjustment period. Utica's Swiss cheese D hasn't helped either.

Those numbers can change very quickly the more he plays.

Absolutely, just haven't heard much about his first couple of weeks down there so I checked the AHL site for some early stats.

  11. I used to deliver the Province in the Interior in the early '60's .. it has sunk to new lows, tho .. the Province belongs on the outside speculating .. I have a lot more trust in those media folks who spend time with the team .. the Two John's and Murph .. I realize they are 'mouth pieces' to a certain extent, but they are good for the Canucks.

I find it hilarious that little crybabies like you and old news take shots at the Vancouver sports writers that actually ask the TOUGH questions that most others are afraid to ask. This city and team NEEDS those kinds of writers and radio hosts, its called journalism not team promotion.

And then of course you mention Shorty, Cheech and Murph (lets thrown in Valk) as the media you trust. Are you kidding me?!!? The 4 BIGGEST Canuck fanboys who do nothing but kiss the ass of this team on EVERY broadcast are the ones you trust.

Is there any reason that you can't listen to all sides and realize that the Botch's and Willes' etc asking the tough and sometimes "dramatic" questions are needed to counteract the fluff that the "Two-Johns" etc throw in our faces 65 nights a year..?

  12. No, he's correct.

Either it's a gigantic mess or a knee jerk decision.

    Make up your mind.

Wow you're even more clueless than J.R.

The fact that everything was fine 100 days ago and now today the GM is fired and the coach is basically condemned is the mess.

The knee jerk reaction was to not wait until seasons end to fire Gillis and Torts and just bring in Linden with 3 games to go under a newly created role just to appease fans and help with seasons ticket renewals.

Glad I was able to explain that to you. Let me know if you need anything further clarified since you seem to have trouble grasping simple facts and statements.

  13. I get a kick out the whole "Linden is a successful business man"...I like Linden as much as the next guy but come on...he opened some work out facilities in a city he was/is beloved in and that city just happens to be one of the most healthy and fit in North America....its like shooting fish in a barrel...Steve Nash has done virtually the same thing yet if he retired tomorrow and was named the President of Basketball Operations for the Mavs or Suns people would be saying its a bad decision.

100 days ago the Canucks were coming off the best month in franchise history, were 10th overall in the league and 3 points back of SJ, they were extolling the virtues of Torts system and the prospect pool that Gillis had begun to build and were poised to make a playoff run...you're telling me it only took 100 days for the entire organization to basically decide they needed to go in a different direction..?? If that's the case then the Aquilini's are even worse owners than most people already think they are...

Like I said above I like Linden a great deal and have respect for him but anyone thinking this is anything more than a knee-jerk reaction and a massive PR move are fooling themselves...only TL himself can prove me wrong by cleaning up the mess that's been left for him and he's got a huge mountain to climb in order to do that...

  14. 10 weeks until the draft and 12 weeks until the compliance buyout needs to be decided and free agency starts and possible trades need to be made and the Canucks currently have nobody in place to make those decisions. Get ready for a bumpy few years folks...

It's a good day for a Canucks troll job...

P.S. I have feeling that John Tavares wants to be a Maple Leaf.

Well you were completely and utterly wrong with this post just like 50% of your other posts. Your opinion is quite possibly the most uninformed and home team biased that anyone has ever seen. I'm just going over to the actual Gillis FIRING post to see if your sorry excuse for a fan or commenter has made it over there....My guess is it hasn't and you're in some dark room with a candle and a pic of MG sobbing gently to yourself. I know you have thousands of posts, but do EVERYONE a favour and just make tonight your last night of posting....you literally have zero credibility and zero respect in terms of an actual hockey based opinion

  16. Is it 2 or 3 years?

More youth didn't play because they weren't ready. If you want to blame anyone for that, blame the previous regime who left us with next to nothing in prospects who could have been contributing by now.

-We went to game 7 of the final in 2011. Drastically altering that lineup would have been foolish.

-2012 won our second consecutive PC. If it hadn't been for Keith's elbow and Kesler being gimped we would have arguably gone quite deep again. Again, changing a PC winnning lineup...not such a spectacular idea.

-2013 Lockout/CBA, uncertainty, shortened season, minimal trades league wide and we still had a very good team but with more question marks largely due to health. By the end of the year it's clear more drastic changes need to be made.

-2014 retool begins with Schneider trade but any major additions will have to wait until following season due to cap decrease.

Where in there do you see opportunity for vast, sweeping changes and high dollar top 6 forward acquisitions? The only two years where major change would have been deemed welcome or required were the last two seasons which were basically clamped down because of the new CBA. And even then 2013 was debatable.

MG made as much change as he could by dumping salary given that context. Now that he has a rising cap, has cleared a ton of space and has youth he drafted ready to contribute on ELC's he able to actually make moves. I realize in this day and age everyone wants immediate satisfaction but drastically changing the makeup of a multi million dollar hockey team does not occur over night even without lockouts and shrinking caps.

What the hell are you talking about..?!?!...The Canucks have $11m of cap space with 18 players signed. RFA's alone are going to eat up anywhere from $6-$8m depending on who they decide to re-sign. Even with a Booth buyout Gillis will have somewhere around $7-$10m to sign 3-4 players...hardly what anyone should consider "a ton of cap space"

  17. I think there are a lot of things to like about Gillis.

Not least of which is how intellectually hard he works. He also seems to be a good manager who shares power effectively and isn't as stubborn or arrogant as some characterizations suggest. If anything, I find his assertiveness here refreshing.

    As for his decision making:

I liked that he retained AV and thought they developed an incredible complementary relationship.

Can't argue with what he has done on the free agent market - simply outstanding record imo. Hamhuis, Garrison, Tanev, Lack, Santorelli, Richardson, Eriksson, Lain. Hard to complain about anything there.

I have really liked his drafting in recent years.

He is most maligned for his trades, but imo, his biggest deals have been difficult but excellent ones. I loved the Kassian deal from the get-go and more and more each day. The Schneider deal was a forced one imo, a combination of little choice with a cap drop and Luongo - (I also wonder if keeping Luongo was entirely his decision) - that will take a few years of Horvat developing to assess, but the additions of Lack and Eriksson and now Markstrom certainly make these deals easier to live with.

The Luongo deal imo was a great move - for a shockingly good return. I am thrilled he got that done when the opportunity arose and commend him for jumping at the chance to get it done regardless of the timing or risk of going with youth to close the season. The irony here is that the amount of overlap with the naysayers who had also thrown in the towel on this season anyhow. Not going to review the rest of his deal - has been done a lot - but I will say that I love Higgins, and the additions of Markstrom and Matthias. Booth has been a wash, as was Ballard in terms of what Florida actually got out of the deal.

I look forward to what he can manage with the cap space, the youth he's accumulated, and the option of trading a key asset to add to the effect of the retool.

Yeah....we all get it man....you're completely and utterly in love with Mike Gillis and everything he has done....you've mentioned this in literally hundreds of posts...you'd probably marry him if you had the chance...you probably have pictures of him all over your house...in your next post you'll tell us all about his plan to win the Cup next year AND draft Connor McDavid...old news indeed...

  18. Since January we have 4 wins against teams currently holding down a playoff spot (I'll include Dallas).

    January 2-6-2

    February 1-3-1

    March 1-4-1

    4-13-4.

4 of our last 6 are against playoff teams.

Annnnd...only 13 wins ALL season have been against teams that are currently in a playoff spot...and 7 of those wins have been by one goal...this team is worse than people are willing to believe...

  19. I couldn't have had any more respect for Henrik before his comment - so I can't exactly say my respect for him has grown, but he got is precisely right - Lack did come in and steal the job. It might be shocking if it hadn't happened before with a different young goaltender and a different coach, but of course, it's all about a Canucks organization conspiring to underplay Luongo.

Thornton being a douche has nothing to do with his comments about Luongo. Of course Luo is a great goaltender. I have and never would undervalue Luongo as a goaltender - which doesn't change the fact that in competitive sports you have to continue to earn your role - something he didn't do under the pressure of a couple younger stars vying for starts.

He should be ok in Florida now that they moved their top prospect in this deal. Probably something his agent insisted upon. :bigblush:

Hahaha...see, you simply can't help yourself...its really kind of sad actually...you're almost like a cartoon character at this point...

  20. Or just obliging him after Luongo once again, either intently or by thoughtless loose lips, decided to feed the drama trolls with his Kesler is 'stuck here' comments....

"We all know how this script ends".

Poor Luo. Lost the #1 job to an outstanding young goaltender again. But that has nothing to do with AV and JT's decisions....they were just trying to mistreat disrespect His Highness.

Ironicallly Luo didn't know how the script ended....with Poor Luo getting what he wanted - a ticket to the one place he wanted to go.

Big bad mean Mike Gillis sure mistreated him there.

Does that stop Luo from turning around and twitter-trolling the goaltenders here?

#prayforEddie and "Thing4" will be just fine thanks.

Enjoy your trip back home. Carry on with your moping and playing victim act.

The Luongo crybabies on this site are giving the Hodgson crew a run for their money.

Absolutely hilarious that you use the word "crybabies" when you are easily one of the biggest crybabies on this site or any of the other Canuck based forums. You blindly defend everything the Canucks do or say and then attack other people with childish comments if they say anything remotely anti-Canuck. You are the epitome of the "crybaby"...
