But if you kick a guy like burr to the curb and don't give him due respect for what he has done for the organization then what do the Horvats and McCanns do come contract time?

That you need to be accountable and earn your millions.

I think the problem is that Benning has to choose whether to develop this guy in the juniors or the NHL when in reality JVs best learning curve per game is most likely in the AHL which hes too young for.

JB probably does want to have Jake grow as much as possible but calculated that he'll do his best growth in the NHL where its easier to keep an eye on him. I'm sure if Virtanen were allowed, he'd be placed there. Its too bad that it isn't an option right now.

Whats wrong with him playing in the juniors, Virtanen was only barely above ppg in his last season in the WHL. Lmao Tom Sestito was also barely above ppg in his last season in the juniors.

  3. Why would JB take Reinhart with the #1 when we have Henriik with Horvat,Cassels,Fox,Gaunce, Kesler for the 2nd and third lines?

Santo and Shinkaruk can play center.

Then there are the remaining two veterans that presently occupy the center slots in the 3rd and 4th lines.

He loses assets and trades up for Ekblad only.

Reinhart is not even in this equation.

Maybe he believes Reinhart has the potential to be first line center.
  4. That's not a crazy high asking price if you ask me. High, yes, but that was expected.

    6th overall (high first)

3rd round (since it's 6th overall and not like 9 or 10, but hey, maybe they still want a second.)

Established player. I hear they like Garrison so there you go. But i'f they are looking for a young forward, then that could lead to some problems. I don't think Jordan Schroeder counts does he? hahaha.

    But point is

6th overall, 2nd/3rd round, Jason Garrison for first overall? I think I could get behind that.

lol, Garrison says no, there's a reason he didn't sign with the Panthers.

  5. The Sedins are going to have to be our go -to guys again next year..Hopefully,Jensen and Shinkaruk can start popping some in....

Not shinkaruk please, just let him stay in juniors. He already missed a year, a prospect isn't going to save us anyways.

  6. I just don't have any confidence in the "skilled" players after this years top 5 picks.

William Nylander is a prospect I have watched more than others because he has played for my favorite team in Sweden MoDo a few times this season and there is definitley skill there but there is just something about him that just doesn't convince me he will pan out to become a high scoring player in the NHL. It's hard to think of word for it but he just doesn't feel like he is cut out for it. I hope I am completely wrong if we end up picking him 6th. No physicality at all, weakest player I have seen play for MoDo in years.

Nikolaj Ehlers like Nylander has a lot of skill and speed but there is just something there that just doesn't make me that convinced. I think he will slide in the draft and go between 12th and 15th in the draft. He wouldnt't be able to compete against the Kings, Ducks, Sharks or any other major Western team. He will be picked by an Eastern Team.

Kasperi Kapanen very similar to William Nylander and I expect him to go outside of the top 10 as well.

I don't mind who the Canucks pick but I think that Jake Virtanen is too hard to resist for the new management especially with the way Linden wants this team to look in the future. I have to retract my statement earlier saying that he is not a 6th overall pick in this draft because I think the Canucks will have to make him a 6th overall pick. Similar to Horvat in last years draft he was ranked to go lower in the draft but one team had him at 4th overall in the entire draft. I think us fans often rely on the medias opinions rather than what NHL teams will be looking for. Some names that come to mind (Ryan Johansen, Morgan Reilly, Alexander Barkov, Bo Horvat) in recent drafts that the media have had lower but NHL teams have had higher.

I think Jake Virtanen has all the tools to become a VERY good top 6 winger in the NHL but it is hard to deny that he is a very "raw" type of prospect. The Canucks have to decide whether or not it is worth the risk to draft a raw prospect that could turn potentially turn into a hometown hero or go with another option that they feel more suited for the future of the organization.

    My "What If" Scenario:

2014 Draft: Jake Virtanen - Turns into a similar player as Corey Perry

2015 Draft: Matthew Barzal - First line center of the future

    Shinkaruk - Barzal - Virtanen

    Jensen - Horvat - Kassian

    Gaunce - Cassels - Fox

what ifs are fun, what if virtanen becomes a Taylor Pyatt and ehlers turns into Patrick Kaneesque player. :P
  7. Claude Giroux was 22 when he hit his prime. Ehlers won't be Claude Giroux, yes, but then let's stop comparing him to Claude Giroux then? Elite 1st liners don't take years and years and years to work things out. Ehlers is a PROJECT.

    PASS.

    which prospect isn't a project?
  8. don't put words in my mouth please didn't say he was the best just saying plus/minus isn't the stat that determines how well a player plays defensively and pointing out the fact none of the 4 Edler Bieksa Hamhuis or Garrison have played great the last few years at this point all of them should be trade the d-core should be blown apart

    sorry
  9. Man what the hell is wrong with Edler. -6 over past 3 games, almost -40 on the season. We're better off not even dressing him - total liability.

Dragonfruit would tell you +/- is completelyyy irrelevant and Edler is the best :)

  10. You think these past few years are bad? My god.

sorry :(, they were the best. I changed my mind. And mike gillis should stay too, since he was so instrumental in the best few years of canucks history.
  11. Ownership needs to get out of the way from here on out though.

Gillis made mistakes, and ownership jumped in right away and only made the situation worse rather than allowing Gillis to dust himself off and get back to what made him successful initially.

Whats done is done, MG is gone, the rebuild is likely to begin. I just hope Ownership stays out of the way from here on out, cause when ownership is heavily involved, thats when franchises can drop to the bottom of the league for long amounts of time.

OK, so do we just blame the ownership for all of gillis mistakes? If that's the case, how do we know that the ownership didn't help gillis make his good trades or signings. How do we know it wasn't the ownerships idea to sign tanev or santorelli. Its always easy to blame someone else.
