  1. I think Bart will get the Vey treatment as opposed to the Kassian. He'll have a longer leash and won't be punished as hard for mistakes. If Vey is given PP time, I'm sure Bart will receive some as well. And also, I'm sure he'll start out on the 3rd line at worst. He's just not the type of player to grind it out on the fourth line and work his way to the top. With the waiver situation, like Vey last year, there's not much else to do. And besides, we know Bart's problem has been with the mental side of the game and confidence. I don't think benching him will help.

Agreed. Kassians issue is that he can play the way he was playing and be an nhl regular on the 3rd or 4th line but he has such a high ceiling and needs to be pushed. vey or sven can be very effective in the bottom six and need different treatment to succeed.

  2. Doesn't seem iike there is enough room with Vey, Jensen, Bear and Kenins all having to pass through waivers and the risk of losing one. We need some room as it is not even looking at Virtanen as a possibility. No need to rush him anyways, nothing wrong with another year of junior taking a more leadership role and being a big part of the world juniors.

  3. In a perfect world, the BPA for us would be have an enticing package of skill, size, and tenacity.

However, that wasn't the case in the last draft. The first 5 picks were obvious and the 6th could have realistically gone to a number of different prospects, all of which lacked and offered something.

Nylander offers a whole other level of skill. While his size is an area of concern, I feel like that is being overstated, especially when he's doing well in Modo against full grown men.

I'm also cautious about criticizing JV this early in the season but I find it completely clueless to resort to criticizing Nylander in JV's defence when he's ripping it up in a better league.

Sounds like you are describing JV to me. NHL ready shot and hits like a truck. Which of those three does he not have?

  4. The mid-day show on The Team said they heard of a proposed offer for 3 years at 15-16.5 million...so $5-5.5/Year for 3 years. Thats something i can live with.

This team is not going full rebuild....TL and JB have said from day one that they are looking to make the playoffs every year and the trades he made look towards this. Instead of getting a bunch of prospects and picks we have gotten 3 players ages 22, 24, 26...the age this club has been lacking. What Benning has done is acquire players that we should have had in our system already with 2nd round picks that were traded away over the last 10 years.

  5. And even if not we can trade him at the dead line for 1st round picks and prospects. Next year will be a deep draft. If we have tanked and have players to trade for picks will be in a great position

I do like this line of thinking. Whomever we sign we can always move at the deadline for assets, probably not top tier picks or prospects but something that we could help build our system. In 2013 Dallas traded Jagr for 2 C prospects and a conditional 2nd rd pick, not bad for a guy you paid nothing to get.
