  1. I take full responsibility for Burrows' play over the past five games. I started trumpeting his "return" to 2011 form by proclaiming him the best player on the ice vs. Columbus and New Jersey. This is after beating the "trade Burrows" drum all summer/fall.

I should know better because the minute I start talking positively about any player, it's the kiss of death for them.

So to all Canuck fans and Burrows, my apologies for being the reason why Burrows has fallen off the cliff the past five games.

  2. With his offence drying up as of late, I think his fight could really really light a fire under him. I don't think he fought alot in Junior, he had a very quiet demeanour to him, and maybe playing with this new edge will ignite a new BG.

A nasty Brendan Gaunce clocking in at 6'2" 210 lbs. to go along with his defensive awareness and 200' game would be a welcomed addition to the Canucks/Comets.

  3. I love Burrows, but if we could trade him to Pit for a good defensive prospect (Pouliot or Harrington) I would be ok with it. Opens space for Horvat and Jensen.

Ditto with Bieksa going to Toronto.

I only want to trade them to teams that they would want to go too. Both have been warriors for the canucks. My view even without the no trades.

Happy If we keep them too.

How about Burrows for Nathan Beaulieu? Habs could probably use Burrows and Beaulieu could very well be the decent prospect on the back end that we may be looking for. And the Habs may be one team that Burrows would waive his NTC to.

IMO, there's enough depth on the Canucks to move Burrows at this stage, and to boot, Burrows has done enough to re-establish some trade value for the Canucks.

  4. Dare I say it? Horvat has arrived. All it took was one goal and now, the floodgates are about to be opened up. The man-child does so many things so well. Plays a mature, seasoned, professional, disciplined game...he's making it tough on JB and WD to send him back to the O.

Other than the turnover in the neutral zone against Ottawa when he tried to dangle (? can't remember if this was the game), he hasn't made a noticeable mistake.

The age of Bo has arrived in Vancouver.

  5. I doubt any goalie gets traded this year, imo. I believe this year is for Benning and Co. assess what they have, and next year we will be seeing bigger changes. We are talking new management and a bunch of new players, this is why I believe there wont be any major pieces moved, unless its a cant miss deal.

If we all think back to when Benning signed Miller, it was very clear of the fact that he didnt think Lack was ready to be the number one and said he brought Miller in to be that calming verteran presence, and thats exactly what he has been. With Miller's 3 year contract that gives them time to evaluate, to be sure either Markstrom or Lack will be ready to take on bigger roles.

Of course, depending on how things go, Miller could be moved at any time to make room for Markstrom and have a duo of him and Lack. If they are both developing at a good pace and one looks like they could truely take over the number one position then that makes Miller the expendable one, and I think this has been Benning's plan all along.

To me it makes nothing but sense. Sign a proven guy to hold the fort until the young guys are ready. With the limited NTC that Miller has, it makes him movable.

Time will tell, but Miller could be the one on the way out eventually, not Lack or Markstrom.

    Conclusion: anything is possible.

  6. Oh thanks for clarifying!

No sweat, Nazzy...hope McEneny goes back to Kingston and dominates as a 20 year old. IMO, I think another year of junior will be good for McEneny. He looked lost at the YS tourney (the little I saw) and the YS tourney is just a step above junior A exhibition games.

  7. Pretty sure he will go to Utica...already 20 and played 5 seasons although 2 were shortened by injuries in the OHL with Kitchener/Kingston

Kid's got a late b-day (turned 20 in late May) and he's been in the O for four seasons. Could easily be sent back to the O as an over-ager, though I think you're right about where he'll be assigned. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets assigned by the Comet to the 'zoo.

    Comets D:

    Huskins -- Biega

    Andersonn -- Corrado

    Negrin -- Sanguinetti

    Tommernes -- Lafranchise

    'zoo D:

    McEneny -- Blain

    Humphries

EDIT: Looks like McEneny is heading back to juniors...http://vansunsportsblogs.com/2014/09/22/camp-cuts-mceneny-pettit-stewart-sent-back-to-junior/

  8. Cut.

    Kitchener or Utica?

Based on the little I saw of the YS tourney, I'd say he could use another year of junior...so a year as an over-ager would be a good option.

I see that McEneny is not on a sliding scale anymore...does that mean his contract is counted against the 50 max and that even though he's back in junior that one year gets burned off his elc? Anyone have an answer?

  9. I see what looks like a #7, but Pit Martin wore the Jofa helmet, is that one of those? Pit Martin is my guess then.

Beg to differ. Pit Martin wore one of those round Northland or Lange helmets. The same kind made famous by Denis Potvin.
