This U18 tournament could turn the top end of the draft on it'e head in a hurry.  Let's assume that Hughes, Kakkoare 1&2 and Byram is almost certainly gone by 10 as well.  The next 10 picks are going to be crazy.  We could very well walk away with the 4th best player in the draft, depending on how things shake out.  There is not much separating the list below:

    Cozens- Likely top 5

Podkolzin- Huge talent, but lots of question marks.  I could see him falling by more than a few a spots.

Dach- Not playing U18s,do others who stand out leap frog him?  Most likely gone by our pick

Turcotte- Injured for lots of the season, but has been fantastic when he has played.  I could  see him anywhere from 3-12.

Zegras-  May be the most dynamic player in the draft not named Hughes.  Not in U18s, does that hurt his stock?  I see him anywhere from 6-12.

Boldy-  Strong season, and has been lights out so far n U18s.  closer to NHL ready than most.  I would have had him ranked 8-12 before, but now probably 6-10

Krebs- Very talented, but some questions.  If he played on a strong team, how much better would he have looked.  Another 6-12 guy

Caufield- Will likely dismantle Ovie's goal record at the U18s. How many teams will ignore his skill due to his size?

Soderstrom- Very skilled RHD.  I compare him to Boquist from last year, minus the shot, but with far better D.  Every year at least 2 D go top 10.

Broberg-  Great size and skill, a strong tournament could boost his stock significantly.

Other than Dach and Cozens, we are going to have a choice of 4 guys on this list.  I will have my fingers crossed that Podkolzin or Zegras are there.

Boqvist and Soderstrom are nothing alike expect being Swedish and RHD. Boqvists offensive tools are far superior than Soderstroms, while Söderström plays a better two-way game. Soderstrom is more comparable to someone like Nils Lundquist or a lesser Ty Smith

Boldy and Caufield's stock is for sure on the rise...same for Turcotte...

    I can't see Podkolzin falling to us but maybe Dach or Zegras....otherwise I would take a chance of Caufield if available and none of the previous 3 are...after that I would go;

    Soderstrom

    Krebs

    Broberg

  3. Haven’t posted in this thread since the junior season started, can’t believe it’s almost Christmas... My early thoughts of the top 10 this year, where the Canucks should be picking again:)

    - Hughes still the semi-clear number 1, hasn’t been as dominant as say Matthews or Eichel in their  usntdp u18 year but still pretty great.

-Kakko has been unreal in the Finnish league and has actually played C recently for this Fins international team, let’s see if that continues down the road.

    - That US u18 team is just filthy. Besides Hughes, I have Turcotte, Zegras and Boldy all inside the top 10

    - Out west Dach and Cozens (especially Dach) have been lights outs and look to be top 5 picks for sure.

-For as great as this draft is for Cs, it’s  just as week on D with Byram being my top D. He has a chance to become a top pairing guy but most likely a 3/4 dman since I don’t see him having any standout quality. If he were  in last years draft I’d have all of Hughes, Boqvist, Bouchard, Dobson and maybe even Smith ahead of him.

Hope this helps some people who don’t know much about this years draft! Comments and thoughts would be much appreciated aswell!

How does Hughes compare to Makar interms of potential?  Who would you rather have?

Without a doubt Hughes. Makar has a better shot but other than than Hughes is superior in every other way! :)

Second game watching Lind in this tournament and he looks a tad slow and lost.   Good news for Canuck faithful is play of Gajovich who looks like he is playing in beast mode.   Already has something like four shots on goal out of a total of 19 so far for Canada.    Second game in a row he is one of the better players on the ice for either team.

Whole Canadian team looks slow. TBH so do the Fins. I guess that's what u expect with summer league games

150lbs he would last a shift in the NHL. He's the opposite of what this team needs we have Tall and tiny non physical players that get pushed around. Let's hope he can add about 5o lbs in three years. The report even says he fades away in physical games GREAT. The team the drafts after Vancouver must love benning they away get a pleasant surprise.

It was a bad pick at 5 plan and simple.

    He's 18.........

Ranked worst gm for good reason.

150lb project taken in the top five. Oh well there's always next years lottery hopefully we have an NHL gm running the team by then.

    You're kidding right? A ppg in a men's league at 18
