imo given the canucks draft history as of late, they will draft players with higher offensive ceilings and value pace, motor, IQ and skill over size. it's turned out pretty well with Petterson and Hughes. Podz was a no-brainer value pick.
my money is that the canucks pick Fabian Lysell as he has one of the highest offensive ceilings and fits our up-tempo speed game nicely.
not interested in safe picks who may end up as 3rd/4th liners or bottom pair d-men. no point in grabbing those with a top-10 pick.
also given that he plays in the SHL, he can brought over to play for Abbotsford immediately and be brought along the right way. He wants to play against men and has the confidence to do it. Give the man what he wants haha.

i'm gonna predict that the Canucks go off-the-board and draft Fabian Lysell. It's an opportunity to swing for the fences and grab a player who has potential to be a star and otherwise wouldn't be available. There's no point in getting a bottom-6 forward or 4/5/6 d-man with your top-10 pick (that's what trade and free-agency are for).
Fabian Lysell has one of the highest ceilings in this draft.

My 2 cents is that we cannot afford to trade up unless it is for a special player and to me, there are only 4 in this draft. Hughes, Kakko, Podkolzin (risky) and Byram. Makes no sense to lose a legit prospect and our #10 for anything less.
With regards to the prospects/roster I could see us dealing (that teams would actually have interest in) they would be Virtanen, Demko or Juolevi.
Demko is the piece that I would be comfortable moving to a team that needs a future starting goalie and we might be able to get a first rnd pick back straight up as he is closer to a finished product.
If we are to stand pat with our 10th overall pick, then draft players based upon their hockey IQ and skating - its a fleet footed smart man's game now.

I was worried about Juolevi last year after observing the tire fire that he was. This year is a completely different story. While he isn't fully fit and still catching up due to a shortened summer, you can tell that he is NHL level in skill and hockey IQ. His breakouts and passing both short and long are on point and he makes plays that most D-men can't or don't dare to do. Several times yesterday he made little 5-10 foot dishes and no-look passes to players without them breaking stride while easing the forecheck pressure.
I also love that he so assured of himself that he fires back at troll reporters and armchair fans who don't understand hockey. It's true, he makes small nuanced plays that you don't appreciate unless you play/coach.
Juolevi gonna be a stud. Give it time.

haha i got the Q7 so I could do more camping/fishing with my gal and our puppy this year but every time i see some twerp drive by in their 911, maserati or f-type i get jealous

yo does Jake drive a black Maserati? I was parking my Q7 in Olympic village and I look out my window and I am pretty sure I saw Jake Virtanen smirking at my car cuz it wasn't as sexy as his batmobile...

I'm very impressed with how Jake has come along as well... he is hustling and making things happen... if i'm to be honest though, there were several instances in the 3rd where Jake tried to do too much instead of making the smart play resulting in sloppy zone exits/give aways/edler's penalty on Keller...
he is very much a work in progress still but i'm confident when he is 24/25 he will be a force - just needs to be a bit smarter with the puck and know when to just make the safe play

the last place i would have expected to find a cryptocurrency thread haha... am a long-time crypto investor and am still very bullish about crypto/blockchain tech despite our current bear market...
Now is a great time to enter if you have spare cash... only invest in projects that could/would survive a crypto apocalypse.. my picks are as follows (note: i do have big holdings in some of these so do your own research)... i'm not a day trader.. only focus on good projects and prefer dividend/staking coins...

I'm liking this guy more and more. My dad actually ribbed me about getting Pouliot's jersey, but I think it's starting to look like a fine idea.
Oh, and hey - doesn't he look better on the right side? He's been playing right with Edler left, and has been playing his best hockey.
Just wanted to add that the provies failed to also note that on the Baertschi goal, Pouliot had the awareness to drive the net and create space. That goal doesn't happen otherwise. It's early days but I'm willing to bet that many will be buying Pouliot jerseys in the coming seasons
edit: That turn against Pearson was ill advised lmao... he needs to put his head down and skate with him...

I'm not against this - really depends who we get back. For example, trading for a younger blue chip player and accelerating the process. For example the Horvat - Schneider trade did work out well for both teams (save for Corey Schneider's injury and subsequent decline). Devils did get a blue chip young goaltender who performed for many years. Canucks got a future captain but Horvat did exceed draft expectations and could easily have not panned out if his skating and skill didn't translate.
