    Tyler Toffoli - 27 RW 4.6m 1 year remaining

    Can score and make plays

    Miller Petterson Boeser

    Pearson Horvat Toffoli

    Roussel Gaudette Leivo

    Ferland Beagle Virtanen

    Schaller Sutter Motte

    Edler Myers

    Hughes Tanev

    Benn Stetcher

    Markstrom

    Backup

LA is at the begging of their rebuild. They will be looking for picks and young skilled players that can be a part of their future core.

With the Seattle draft coming up we could loose a goalie and Canucks have made it clear that Markstrom is our guy. Bo needs a winger if we are going to have a chance in the playoffs. Unite Toffoli and Pearson. Toffoli is a playoff performer a skilled playmaker and goal scorer. Can slot in the top 6 right away similar to Miller. Demko is arguably worth more than Toffoli so moving Eriksson is part of the package so we have more money to sign Markstrom and our upcoming youth.

    To LA

    Demko

    Eriksson

    To Vancouver

    Toffoli

    Backup Goalie

There is an article on acquiring Toffoli on Hockey Writers, they are suggesting paying less than this ..in the form of possible Baer and Goldy..I guess he has been a recent scratch ...but he did have chemistry with Pearson.

    Cap

Cap not really an issue once everyone is back healthy. It is more about roster spots. We will easily be under cap limit.

We are at $85.4m including current roster plus all injured players.

Once Ferland, Sutter, Beagle, Motte, Edler return.

We reassign Dipietro, Chatfield, Graovac, MacEwen, Goldobin.

This would reduce cap by about $4m and is enough to bring us under the cap limit. However, we would need to reduce by one more roster spot to reach max of 23.

So we waive Eriksson which reduces cap by a further $1m approx.

This reduces cap to about $80.3m, and leaves us with 14F, 7D, 2G.

This assumes no one else is injured in the mean time, but cap is not really an issue.

One thing JB needs to consider is this year’s bonuses that may need to be paid to Petey, Gaud and Hughes. This could come to $4.55m. I would like to see him find a home for Baer and move on from his buried contract.

Perhaps OTT would be interested for their top 6. He would be an upgrade on Nick Paul. And they only have 4 forwards contracted for next season, plus they are looking for picks for their rebuild. Something like:

    To OTT: Baer, 2020 3rd

    To VAN: 2020 4th

This brings us down to about $77m and creates space to cover the potential performance bonuses.

Oh and don’t trade Tanev. Please resign him!!! He’s a warrior for the Nucks!

Thanks for clarifying...I don't know enough about the CAP nuances to be honest and every time I read an article it seems to get more and more complicated so I move on lol.

Tanev, as a coming UFA, would absolutely return a late first or two later seconds.  We are keeping him though, so the point is moo - as Joey would say.

May be off topic a bit but we need to clear 3 million in cap space to bring Ferland and Sutter back off ltir...how ? Nobody wants any of the other pieces...baer, Loui,  Sutter, Bragle. Tanev would seem to be the only piece other teams would want , yes he is hard to replace I never advocated trading him it was more about discussion..I love the guy but how do we deal with the cap too? Looking for answers.

lol I guess anyone who disagree with your opinion is angry apparently?

Like you said it's a blog...what did you expect?  Congratulations? A medal?  A job offer in communication?  Everyone to agree with your opinion?  Maybe If I add some emojis  :P ;) I'll sound less angry :bigblush:

That's great thanks so much doesn't it feel better? Have a great day at school and wear your jacket at recess it's chilli out there today...and ya this is PlayStation ...heads up none of this is real.

No anger, just no patience for ridiculous proposal.  This isn't playstation, can't just toss aside an experienced vet like Tanev and bring up a kid with 0 NHL experience and think the transition will be seemless, especially when were not even guaranteed a playoff spot.

You're concerned we won't receive anything in return if Tanev gets injured.    But have you considered the consequences if we do trade Tanev and one of Rafferty, Myers or Stecher gets injured?  What next....who fills that void.  At least if Tanev get Tanev we know we have Rafferty who could potentially replace him.    Like I said I'd rather have depth over getting back some trivial draft picks.....because no you won't get a 1st rounder for Tanev, not even sure you get a 2nd.

Wow get a girlfriend buddy or at least some hand cream...blow off some of that anger its a blog not real life...

Tanev is too big of a part of our D to move. We have to start thinking like buyers. I was impressed by Pageau last game, and he's a pending UFA, think we can snag him for a 3rd?

Yes he is, we can't buy without cap space and Tanev is 4.5 against it..for a guy who over the last 3 years is off 1/3 of each season due to injury..I like the idea of bringing up Rafferty if a righty goes down..I hope Tanev stays healthy because like I said he pays the price but his record in the last few years isn't great..I guess it's the price you pay to win games.too bad he get hurt in the process

  7. 2 minutes ago, timberz21 said:

Is it showing in the record books?  No....so yes 0 games!  Can't believe you are arguing this, preseason games with 1/2 of AHL players don't count!  I guess any AHL players with better stats than Tanev's are defacto better NHL players than him.  Maybe in 5 years yes, but not at the moment.

Look, I'm not against bringing up Rafferty, see how he does, but trading Tanev to make room for him seems premature.    If Rafferty comes up and proves over a span of 30-40 games that he can play in the NHL and take 18-20 minutes per games, then maybe we could entertain the option of moving Tanev.   But again, I'd rather have depth for the stretch and the playoffs rather than getting a few trivial picks for Tanev.

Why so much anger?? It was asking for opinions not like I am going to pull the trigger on the trade lol..if you check his stats it has his 2 games..regardless I agreed he had almost 0 experience..my concern if you read it was that based on his history he may not even be healthy when we need him the most..just discussion not making the deal I love Tanev's game..lighten up it's Christmas dude

  8. 15 minutes ago, timberz21 said:

Have you actually watch Rafferty play or you're sole basis for this proposal is based on the 16 pts and plus 9 stats?   Yeah he has great stats in Utica....but is he ready to replace Tanev and his 20 minutes/game?  The guy has play 0 NHL game and you suggesting replacing a veteran like Tanev with him, while were fighting for the playoffs?

That's suicide, especially with our injury history on the back end.  Keep both for depth, even if it were lose a potential return on Tanev.  I don't see getting more than a 2nd rounder in return, so not worth it.  I prefer depth.  Trade him if we are out comes trade deadline.

Well Rafferty did play a couple of preseason games so not 0 but close , had an assist -1, had several teams interested in him and he chose to come to Vancouver. I never saw Chris Tanev play before his first game in the nhl either. But he played down in Manitoba for a couple of seasons and didn't have as good a numbers as Rafferty. Sooooo

Rafferty looks great in Utica, but now is not the time to be trading away good pieces to let kids play more. We're not a bottom-feeding team anymore and we need to keep good pieces if we want to have a shot at the playoffs.

I agree I have always loved Tanev's play without the puck and willingness to sacrifice his body, my fear is over the last 3 years he has averaged 50 games played, he has played all 29 so far, will he be healthy when we need him anyway? To me it feels like he struggles with the puck and makes more bad choices than in the past. Anyway just wanted to put it out there to see how others felt.

  10. Like I said let's see how the season plays out.....I still believe Max is over valued but would be a great addition to the canucks and primarily with Bo...playing with good players can make all the difference..just ask JT Miller averaging a point a game...a long way from where he was.

Domi plays on the second line. The top line is Gallagher and Danault.  And oooooh 50 points? How is that better than the 72 Domi up last season.  Answer....it’s not.

so yeah. Keep Virtanen. Montreal wouldn’t want him at the cost of a much better player in Domi

Well Domi is on pace for 50 points look it up ...remember 1 good year.. before that his best year was 52 oooooohh..Jim Benning has based many a bad trade or acquisition based on a player having 1 good year...press boxes are full of them lol

Ok. So let’s break this down.  Montreal traded for Domi and moved him to C because they badly needed a C. He’s thrived as a C.  If they wanted him as a winger they would have kept him on the wing.

Virtanen is faster, but Domi is by no means slow

Virtanen is bigger but Domi plays a much grittier style.  I’d be willing to bet opposing players would rather match up against Virtanen than Domi.  Virtanen is much easier to play against.
Also. Domi never takes a shift off. He’s always engaged whereas Virtanen often seems lost.

any way you slice it Domi is a better player. Points, positional need, intangibles.  He checks every box.  So yes, you’re way off on your valuation

Domi has 7 goals in his last 53 games,  Jake has 11 goals. Domi plays 5 minutes more on average per game than Jake, he plays with the likes of Jonathan Drouin not Tyler Motte, Domi plays power play avg this year 43 seconds per game, Jake plays 6 seconds per game average. Domi has been moved back to the wing to and I quote "make room for the real centres on the team like Suzuki and Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Ryan Poehling. My argument is the honeymoon is wearing off in Montreal and I wonder if Jake could have 50 points a year playing on the top line...my guess is if he skated north and south with his stick on the ice or stood in front of the net on the power play he could probably let the puck bounce off him and get the extra 18 points that Domi gets, and oh ya an extra 5 minutes of ice time per game would help. So your right I wouldn't make that trade either!

  13. Yes if you take size and speed out of the equation and place value strictly on points, but not all trades made in any sport are based entirely on a player's ability to generate points. Not every trade is made with both players having equal amounts of points generated over the same amount of contests. Most trades are based on a team's positional needs and potential each player has of contributing to the improved success of the team. I may be off a little on the Value of Jake to Max but WAY out I don' think so.

  14. Well he only has 5 more than him this year and it's not Jake that is having a career year, I guess we will have to wait until the end of the year to see where it all shakes out, but yes you are probably right that we would need to sweeten the deal, and Max did play wing so it's not a stretch to see him return to playing that position

  15. 7 minutes ago, qwijibo said:

Domi has flourished dying C in Montreal.  Last season he put up 28 goals and 72 points playing on the second line.  Do you really need me to explain to you why Montreal would have no interest in trading him for a guy who’s career high is 25 points?

Well he is on pace for 18 this year and the press boxes are full of guys who had a great season..just ask loui,

  16. Lol you'll have to google Throckmorton...nickname given to me many years ago

As for Jake, I believe he has less points this year than he did the same time last year, goals anyway. He has not turned into the power forward we had hoped, I still remember a few times when he drove wide with his speed and cut to the net scoring, why he does not use his speed more driving to the net baffles me. Regardless, Montreal is struggling and needs to do something to shake things up  and might be willing to move Max, Jake offers size and speed if they can bring it out of him.

What if we threw in Goldy or Baer, they have the cap space

  17. Trade Jake Virtanen for Max Domi

Relatively the same age, points etc. But Max is is great friends with Bo, they have a history and a great friendship, might be the perfect line mate, and let's face it Jake progression has halted in Vancouver.
