1. That's a different argument though. I still remember when the Blackhawks had Dirk Graham (who? exactly) as their captain when they had players who could put up more points. Did that make him have more value or a better player compared to the people that did score though? No, not really.

I still remember when he played for the Canucks.

  2. I'm sorry but there is no way these three would get drafted higher than Mackinnon. Mackinnon is still the best offensive player out of that draft. Jones would slide up for sure, and maybe Florida redrafts Monahan instead of Barkov to fit the center they are looking for.

That's a very steep accusation to say Virtanen will be the second most impactful player. As far as right now, Bennett will be the second most impactful player considering he played above and beyond in the playoffs.

I also believe Reinhart will be a very good player, he is one of those players that will beat you with hockey IQ. He doesn't need the physical attributes as most other players do because he has the brains to get around you. That attribute sounds very familiar because that's how the Sedins play, not saying he will have a career like a sedin but he has the potential. I think you're over valuing our prospects.

Reinhart is one players to think like that, how can you compare him to the Sedins when you have 2 players that think alike.

School is back really soon, just not soon enough.

  3. At the risk of scaring him off further with more numbers ("but intangibles!") I've attached an interesting comparison on MacKinnon and Horvat's performances last year (which was a sophomore slump for MacKinnon vs Horvat's breakout year). Horvat was only clearly better than MacKinnon in blocks, faceoffs and goals per 60 minutes of playing time, with a smaller advantage in hits. MacKinnon was far better on takeaways and Corsi related metrics, but also better than Horvat on points and assists per 60 and penalty differential.

And how old are these 2 players?

  4. Anyone remember Chester & Spike, the two dogs from Looney Tunes? Spike is a big, burly gray bulldog who wears a red sweater, a brown bowler hat, and a perpetual scowl. His little buddy Chester is the exact opposite, a small and jumpy terrier who tags along because it makes him feel tough.

With Lucic, Dorsett, Prust (maybe) and Jake,

overnight this team goes from being Chester to

    being Spike.

Do you also remember that Spike was the stupid dog and Chester was the smart dog.

  5. "Grape"

It doesn't make one a hater to state a fact... His season was disappointing and I don't see how you can argue with that.

Dear Sour Grapes, have you ever had shoulder surgery? If not keep the wine to yourself.

  6. Anyone feel bad for him? There's a lot of pressure on this kid. Imagine what the fans would do if he doesn't pan out.

I'm still beyond pissed at the Hodgson deal... but what can you do? I'm just a rambling guy behind a computer..

I hope Kassian can prove the doubters wrong and provide that grit and scoring ability we sorely needed.

Buffalo tried to get Kassien playing with more Grid with no result that is why they traded him.

  7. Nope. Hodgson could not help us this season. He's not a shutdown center like Pahlsson who would free up the offensive minutes for Kesler. Basically the only reason Hodgson was able to produce like he did is because we sacrificed Ryan Kesler's offensive minutes so that Hodgson could get the sheltered minutes he got.

Kesler was out there for 20 minutes of shut down mode against the other team's top line so that Hodgson could get his 10-13 minutes of offensive ice time. Now with Pahlsson, we can get Kesler those offensive minutes that Hodgson ate up. Obviously, Kesler would perform better than Hodgson with the same easy minutes.

That's what happened last year when Kesler broke out - he got the offensive minutes instead of shutdown when Manny came over - except this time around, we have Manny still on the 4th line, and now have Pahlsson on the 3rd line. This move is essentially freeing up Ryan Kesler for offense instead of having Cody play those minutes. I like that.

Kassian addresses the team's need for a power forward with size, speed, skill, grit and mean streak. These players with the complete package are rare. Hodgson became expendable when we got Pahlsson to play 3rd line center because he could not play wing, and we have 2 top centers in the league playing ahead of him in the log jam.

What I will miss from Hodgson is the 2nd unit PP quarterback. We don't have that offensive center to play on the 2nd unit anymore. However, addition of Pahlsson and Kassian will greatly improve our 5 on 5 play, as Kassian's real underrated skillset is that he is tough to knock off the puck (perfect for our puck possession game) and that he is great along the boards at getting pucks (also perfect for our puck possession game).

So who was out there on the powerplay with the Sedins? What are LaPierre and Malholtra rtoles on the Canucks? Let's hope we don't hope Kassian will not turn another Bernier. Pahlsson is also 5 years older than when he won a Cup with the Ducks and he has scored only 2 goals this year.

  8. Pretty sure he's being sarcastic based on expectations of people on these forums. That being said, it's not like Tanev really got a chance until there were like 4-6 injuries of our other defensemen. AV really isn't the type of coach to play our rookies much if he has the opportunity to play more experienced players. Maybe it has something to do with conditioning, I don't know, but he's shown he's not particularly keen to give rookies a super amount of ice time.

AV has always struck me that he is more concerned about keeping his job than teach younger players. That is why he plays the more experienced older player as they are more of a sure thing.

  9. <br /><br /><br />

What I remember most from that draft was the look on Gilliss' face when Florida was announcing the 1st round pick they got from the Canucks. He looked despondent and pissed off at the same time.

Would that have been when Montreal traded up and took Tinordi?

  10. Really? Jordan Schroeder out performed Hodgson in his stint in the Ahl. Schroeder is faster... and the kid has soft hands.

    Jordan is just as impressive.

What games have you been watching. J. Schroeder so far in the tournament is playing like he wants to stay with the Moose, done not much of anything. Prab has played better than him.

  11. hahhahahahahhahhahahhahahahhahaah dont be mad at stupidness hahaahah we have alot of those guys on these boards.. i mean people if u watched rodin he as skills man every time he had the puck he made somthin happen... and people comparing him to magnus ya magnus was selected first round top ten rodin is second round player who like this dude said was tied... be happy dumb people gillis is doing a great job at selecting wen was the last time we had so many draft pics in a tourny like this i mean we had 3 players and they played great if cody wasnt injured we wouldve had 4 players but jordan is really fun to watch has a awsome speed and a wicked shott

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, talking about stupid people. Go to school and learn English.

  12. How is he a measuring stick... besides if you've watched the games MPS gets first line minutes and Rodin third.

MPS shooting % is only 14.6 percent while Rodin 25%.

he is a top 10 pick.

Where did you get this measuring stick of yours..... GOD 2009 is not a good year... seems to me alot of new idiots were born here in these forums.

    You mean Hatched.

  13. So what. Brodeur shook everyone else's hand. Sweden's entire team left without shaking hands. that's pathetic!

What is really pathetic is Cormier is the Captain of the Canadian Team and the Captain is to show an example of Good Sportsmanship that is why he was selected as Captain of the team. The selection process for captain never centers around being a Goon and only Goons pull this kind of crap and I do not need idiots like that representing my Country.

  14. Cormier elbowed Rodin so hard. I think it was dirty by far. But this is where Canucks Bias comes in from nucks fans.

What idiotic statement this is. One minute you say Cormier elbowed Rodin so hard and in the next sentence your not sure if it was dirty. What are you, a WWE fan, a Flamer or Clueless?

  15. Dear Jordan Schroeder

Clearly the Gophers are going nowhere this year and it is not to your benefit to be surrounded by such consistent losing and ineptitude. Former Gopher Kyle Okposo was the same age you are now when he left the Gophers mid-season and he has done fine since.

    sincerely

    The Canucks Fanbase

Dear Canucks Fanbase, I hope you will be there for Jordan if he fails to make the NHL or is this just for your own self ego talking for him to leave school.

  16. Whoops a crack in the floor!

    There's goes Schroeder.

And some people were bitching about the prospect of drafting a little "runt" like Ellis...... this guy is 2 inches shorter!

Anyways, I'm not that upset really, I hope he puts on a few inches, but overall a pretty good pick. Again, one of the smartest players in the draft.

The difference being playing defence compared to forward.
