I’m glad we kept Demko and didn’t sign Markstrom to a long expensive contract.

I’m also glad we didn’t sign Tanev to four years given his horrible injury record.
    Stecher is a non factor.

Toffoli kind of hurts. He has some pure offensive abilities that looked good in our mix.

I’m patient enough to see how this unfolds though. Benning has still done a good job over all.

This is exactly how I feel as well.

  2. I could see Rafferty making the team and letting Stetcher walk. $3m vs $700k and we need to save our pennies. Being a RHD only helps Rafferty's case as well.

...And I just realized that you are suggesting that Ottawa will trade us a 1st for Eriksson and Ferland - I thought you meant we'd give a 1st for them to take them. So this is just a waste of time...

I couldn't believe it took so long for someone to address that.

One of the absolute worst contracts in the league and a player that is a massive question mark to continue his career is worth a first? Good lord...

Why didn’t you mention Eriksson in the above?

I have no issue in you criticizing my post, but why neglect one of the biggest parts?

In terms of preserving team chemistry, how would re-upping Motte, Virtanen, Stecher, and Gaudette go against that?   (especially admist the rumors of the Canucks moving on from young popular lockerroom players such as Stecher and Virtanen.  In my outlined plan, we would keep those guys).

You do make a good point about the defense, but with a lot of our bad cap off the table, the Canucks would have options.   For example - we could take advantage of cap strapped Tampa and pry away Erik Cernak.  Maybe we give them Lind and Rafferty or something (I honestly don’t know if that’s fair value, I’m just spitballing).  With a guy like Cernak here, we could let the aging Chris Tanev walk.

    Miller-Pettersson-Boeser

    Pearson-Horvat-Toffoli

    Virtanen-Sutter-Leivo

    Motte-Gaudette-MacEwen

    Hoglander

    Edler-Myers

    Hughes-Cernak

    Juolevi-Stecher

    Benn

    Demko

    [Greiss/Talbot]

Not only do the Canucks preserve their core for the most part and still stay youngish, but they put themselves in a great position to easily re-up Pettersson and Hughes while having a great young nucleus that would likely remain intact for years to come.

I accidentally left out Loui, he's just that forgettable.

Stetcher needs to go. He got exposed in the playoffs. He's too small.

  5. In summary:

IN: A back up, 6th round pick

OUT: Markstrom, Podkolzon, Beagle, Roussel, 2021 1st round pick, 7th round pick

Alright guys let's talk about team chemistry while we gut the team and make ourselves worse. Then hand out "comfortable" contracts to guys who floated and not address the glaring issue of our weak defense. But hey look at all that cap room baby.

Anderson is everything Jake should be.

As long as that shoulder has fully repaired I would let both Jake and Hoglander go for him.

Jake is on thin ice here, and moving Hoglander helps relieve the traffic jam of players about to push forward here.

    its a hockey trade.

Especially where a player like JA might not be happy,. Or might not be  putting his game together in JV.

.. or Jake and Sutter to Florida for Ekblad.

    Florida needs a 3rd line.

Yeah, because moving Hoglander helps remove that dreaded log jam of young skilled players on ELCs. Can't have that in our system.

    Yes.

To be honest, I probably wouldn’t make a move like this due to the risks involved (ie picks don’t always pan out), but it is quite delicious in theory.

    The modern day “Lindros package.”

There are some bottom feeding teams out there that.....

    1) Have tons of cap space

    2) Probably are tired of getting lottery picks year after year without having much to show for it.

I’m just spitballing here, but what if the Canucks offered a package of

Demko + rights to Tryamkin + Gaudette + Virtanen + Stecher + Motte.

What would teams be willing to give up for that?    We all saw the three game Patrick Roy like performance that Demko had.  We’ve seen what kind of compete level that Motte has.   Questionable attitude or not, Virtanen still netted 18 goals with Caitlyn Jenner ice time.   Tryamkin is a big boy while Stecher is an honest and young solid 3rd pairing guy that wouldn’t look out of place playing higher.

Would I be correct in assuming that a package like the above could net a 1st or 2nd overall pick?   Would Jack Hughes be worth taking a gamble on?  Would a team like the Sabres be willing to move Dahlin?

Obviously, the above is highly unlikely to occur but I can’t help but wonder.......

You are clueless when it comes to value. You have to be trolling because every trade proposal you make is god awful.

No GM is taking spare parts for a top tier talent.

Would you trade Hughes for Greenway, Stalock, Eriksson Ek, Kunin and Hunt? Of course not.

Because an injured Toffoli can't give Pearson and Horvat what they need.

    Loui was good at that.

What exactly was it that Loui was good at?

EDIT: Don't worry about it, not worth our time.

Well, in a serie that takes a toll on the players muscles Loui could have stepped in with fresh legs and battle in front of Lehner. Especially since Toffoli disappeared and went from an asset to a burden for his line.

This decisions should come quicker for Green. Sometimes it seems he is either stubborn or afraid to make hard decisions.

Pearson went missing also against Vegas...

    I don't know what you're smoking.

How could this decision come quicker for Green? He isn't stubborn and it's not a hard decision. Green made the right choice by parking Loui's ass in the press box.

In what world can you call Toffoli a burden for his line when that is basically the definition of Loui these days. Is this bizzaro world?

  10. The problem with bringing in Virtanen next season isn't if he's ready or not, because he is. It's whether or not the Canucks expect him to do too much of the heavy lifting. Since the Canucks will have virtually no physicality or pushback beyond him next season when they deal Bieksa.

I'd like if Virtanen would be put on a line with Dorsett. Dorsett has pushback, and Jake can play his game knowing #51 has his back out there.

  11. I think it's Shinkaruk's job to lose if his hips are 100% and his conditioning is 100%.

I think that Shinkaruk's ability far exceed Jensen's.

    But if Shinkaruk's not a 100%, it's not biggie.

I would be cool if the Canucks had a junior team, so that the younger players can play with every other in like a mini tournament.

Jensen had time with the Canucks last year and looked pretty good while he was here. If anything, it's his spot to lose.
