  1. PS4 Global Sales Update

+ Posted by Andrew House // President and Group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment

In what is shaping up to be a historic year for gamers, I’m delighted to share an important new milestone with you. PS4’s North American debut on November 15th was PlayStation’s largest ever, with more than one million gamers picking up a PS4 in just 24 hours. Now, with PS4’s global launch expanding to a total of 32 countries worldwide, including Europe and Latin America, I’m proud to announce that more than 2.1 million PS4s have been sold.

It’s an impressive and record-setting accomplishment for our company and for our industry, and we couldn’t have done it without you. I want to personally thank PlayStation fans, both old and new, for your vote of confidence. The best part: the PS4 journey has just begun. In addition to an incredible lineup of PS4 games from the best developers in the world, we will continue to introduce valuable new features and services to PS4 in the months and years ahead.

While PS4’s capabilities will continue to evolve, our commitment to gamers and breakthrough entertainment remains steadfast. We believe that videogames represent the pinnacle of artistry and entertainment, and we will work tirelessly to make sure that PlayStation remains the best place to play.

Thank you for your passion and your support — we couldn’t have done this without you.

  2. Murder Over Playstation 4 In The Bayview [update]

    playstation-4-murder.jpg

Photo: via Sony PlaystationA deal to sell a Playstation 4 console over Instagram went bad on Sunday when a 22-year-old man was shot and killed in the Bayview by the buyer who lured him there.

The incident happened at 3:30 p.m. near Mendell Street and Galvez Avenue, in the vicinity of Highway 101, as KTVU reports. The suspect reportedly had the victim and his 22-year-old girlfriend drive from Hayes Valley to an agreed-upon meeting place in the Bayview to sell him the PS4 for $600. The gunman shot the victim before he had gotten out of his car, and fled with the device. The victim, who had driven out to the meeting place with his girlfriend, tried to speed away but stopped at a gas station to seek help from a police officer. He later died at SF General. She spent most of the evening at Bayview Police Station providing police with information about the incident.

The PS4 is a prized commodity this holiday shopping season, after its November 15 release, and as you can see here it's being offered by private sellers throughout the Bay Area for upwards of $550, well over its $399 retail price, due to scarcity.

Lieutenant Tim Plyer of the SFPD told KTVU, "I don't know [if this kind of online sale deal is] unique to Playstation or anything else. People do robberies, and I don't know why this one transpired, but we'll do all that we can to investigate it."

Police are looking for leads in order to find this horrible individual. Anonymous tips can be called in to 415-575-4444 or by text to TIP411 with "SFPD" in the subject line.

Update: The Chron identifies the victim as 22-year-old Ikenna Uwakah of Daly City, and says the incident happened "in an industrial area near Bayshore Boulevard and Jerrold Avenue." They're also, for some reason, trying not to say that this was a Playstation 4, though that was earlier reported by multiple sources.

  3. I'm having problems connecting with wi-fi. Every device in the house can connect OK. PS4 disconnects often. I'm only getting into the kbps download speed. Anybody else experience this? PS4 forum has a thread where there are people experiencing the same.

  4. LOL @ the guy who bought an extended warranty.

i bought it too (for PS4). Doesn't it work? Especially for a new system? It also covers the components. The last time I bought a controller it stopped working after a month and EB wouldn't replace it I had to buy another.
  5. Just an FYI for you guys that have a PS4 that still have their PS3. Since you all have PS Plus now I'm assuming, since you need it to play online for the PS4, there's also a bunch of free games this month on the PS3 for Plus members.

If you feel like going back to your PS3, these games are free:

    Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen

    ibb obb

    Hotline Miami

    Poker Night 2

Shadow of the Colossus + ICO HD

    Galaga Legions DX

    Jet Set Radio

    Uncharted 3: Single Player

Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien

    XCOM: Enemy Unkown

    Little Big Planet Karting

    Sine Mora(Vita)

    GTA: Liberty City Stories(PSP, Vita)

    Star Wars Pinball(vita)

    Wipeout 2048(vita)

    Uncharted: Golden Abyss(Vita)

    Gravity Rush(Vita)

If any of you haven't played the PS2 hit Shadow of the Colossus, you must.

Bolded Uncharted, because that's a must play for PS3 owners.

I'm just now realizing how many games come free for Plus members.

Why do PS4 owners got the shaft? We only get Resogun and Contrast as free. Will there be more? And why is the PS store not selling any avatars and themes?
