  1. Idk. You could argue that he doesnt need the AHL. All be it a small sample size, but in his first 30 games in the AHL he was scoring at a 40+goal clip and was near ppg. Thats better numbers than Hodgson or Schroeder had or have in the AHL. Plus his size allows him to be effective on the 3rd of 4th line RIGHT now, so even if he's not scoring he'll still have a spot on the roster barring unforseen circumstances.

  2. Disappointed that Rodin hasn't gotten a single pre-season game yet.

A message from the organization? He needs to bulk up for sure. Or maybe his chronic shoulder problem is back...

Didn't he play on the 3rd line in the home game of the double header? Regardless, I agree that his play has been pretty underwhelming thus far. He had that nice goal in the Prospects tourny, but besides that he hasn't really WOWed anyone. It'll probably take him a year to become accustomed to living in N/A, as well as playing on the smaller ice surface. For some guys that transition is seamless, and for others it takes a bit of time. Hopefully he'll get a few more pre-season games in before getting sent to the Wolves though. Coming into this year, I thought Rodin was going to be a real darkhorse to make the team, but that's looking less likely. Jensen on the other hand....

edit: Looks like Rodin was sent down today. Guess he hadn't done enough in practise to garner further ice time this pre-season. All the best to him in Chicago!

  3. Who thinks Rodin slots in on the Wolves' 2nd line? The 3rd? Of course it really depends on if guys like Mancari and Ebbett make the big team 'cos if they don't it pushes younger guys down the lineup which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

It really depends on how things shape up on the canucks roster first. Being a right wing, he's going to have to compete with Mancari and Haydar for top minutes, both of whom are proven AHL stars. If he switches to the other side, or one of the afore mentioned two make the canucks/switches to their offwing, then he might see some right wing top 6 time. It's just too early to tell really.

  4. I'm one of those people that think Rodin is a much better prospect then Schroeder.

I really think he's going to surprise a lot of people when he comes to North America. For me, I don't think it's a matter of whether he'll play in the NHL, but when, and where in the line up.

  5. Is Rodin too old to play in the Junior Championships now? I noticed he wasn't on the roster.

Ya man, he turned 20 in november. He was born late in 90 and so he wasn't eligible for the 08 draft, but is still too old for the juniors. Too bad though.

  6. Unfortunately for him, we have a ton of prospects just like him already.

Probably too soft to be an effective bottom-6 guy.

Probably not skilled enough to be an effective top-6 guy.

The Canucks have a knack for seeking these guys out.

Depending on who you talk to within the canucks' organization, they'll probably tell you that in terms of skill set, rodin is our most talented prospect. And when he was drafted, and still now, they say that he plays with such tanacity along the boards that he could easily be a grinder or checker. I think he has huge potential to thrive in both the offensive and defensive aspects of the game, but that patience will be key. I think a full year on the moose next year acclimatizing to the

north american ice will do him wonders.

Imo I think that at the least, he'll be like a samuelsson type player, in that he can be easily thrown into any situation and thrive, and isn't really stuck in either a top 6 or bottom 6 mold. If he does turn out to be the european sniper that he COULD be, then I guess that works too.

  7. Bigten network is showing a gophers game from 2009 right now. It's pretty clear that schroeder is the best player on the ice of the two teams. He's just so smart with/without the puck that you don't even notice how young and small compared to the other players he is. In the first period alone i counted 6 glorious chances that he set up, but the players just can't tap them in.

On a side not Patrick White looks horrible. *sigh*

  8. this is interesting. I'm wondering what their plans for the swedes are. Hopefully we can get one or both of them over to the moose cuz i want to see what rodin can do with schroeder and hodgson.

  9. Of course its revisionist history. This is CDC , where its all revisionist history depending on what they want to believe.

The guy was terrible. He was SLOW. However, this back excuse crap never lead to any 'permanent damage' supposedly and never required any surgery either.

How about the fact hes too slow? He is too slow to dominate the NHL, just like Kyle Wellwood is .

Shroeder is fast, skilled, played at the College level and now the AHL level and produced. Hes also younger than Hodgson.

More people need to start waking up to these basic facts.

He's only like eight months younger.... just saying.

  10. Hes wearing 23 thats weird i thought he would go for 9

ya thats kinda a weird number. I thought for a split second it was because that's where he went in the draft, but he went 22nd so idk. It was probably just a number assigned to him. I wonder what cody will wear if he goes there again. If my memory serves me correct he wore 18 like he did at the World Juniors, but I imagine he'd just go with 39 like he's been doing in the training camps

  11. This extra-year mumbo jumbo got me thinking that he had to play another season in Sweden.

Ya i figured that's what you were getting at. It's so hard to keep the facts straight about these prospects playing in sweden just because they don't get any media attention really. I actually thought he had another year too until that old article was brought up.

  12. Go back to my post about the quote from Rodin, clearly he can leave this off-season if he wants to.

I know that, I could be reading the guy before me's post wrong, but he's interpreting your thing as thinking he's committed this coming season to sweden too, hence asking if theres any way he can get out of playing the season. I was just re-iterating what you were saying, explaining that he's already done the time he dedicated, meaning he's free to come whenever, barring a new contract.

  13. Is there anyway he could get out of the extra year?

He's already done the year that that's talking about. If that's true, then Rodin agreed to spend another season in sweden (the season he just finished) before the draft last June. Then when he got drafted by our team he had already made a commitment to play in sweden, meaning that even if he wanted to come over he couldn't. Capiche?

  14. Ya Schroeder is looking good. The easy tap in goal, but a goal's a goal. He had at least 2 or 3 other quality chances he created with his speed and smarts, and plus he made some nice set ups for his line mates that didn't quite materialised.

For what it's worth, pat white also looke pretty decent, but he's shark property now, and we were by no means robbed in that trade, so thats just a side observation.

They mentioned that next saturdays game is also on bigten, so we'll get another look of him.

I really hope he decides to sign a pro contract when the season finishes and go to play for the rest of the season in manitoba. It would be unreal to see what kinds of combos they could make with shirokov grabner hodgson and schroeder

  15. I remember this thread from last year and it was a blast. I remember it reached up to to 100 pages and mine as well start it again. I remember that prolific( where did he go?) and I ruled the thread. So what you have to do is name the goalie that is above you. You also have to give a hint. I'll start:

    hint:

    He first name is David.
