They have tried the re tool re build on the fly and in the past I have advocated that approach. However I believe we are now at the tipping point. It's time for a new approach. Bo, Pete, Boeser, Hughes, Hoglander, Podkolzin, Demko, don't need overpaid has beens for mentorship. They are in the drivers seat now what they really need is a 2nd wave of young hungry kids nipping their heels.

I for one am of the mind that 8x8 for Pete and Hughes would be far more desirable long term VS slightly cheaper bridge deals  however that doesn't leave any meat on the bone at present to ice a competitive team in 2021. So let's just embrace that strip it down and re arm ourselves for 2022 and beyond.

-Sutter 50% to FLA for a 3rd or whatever we can get wherever we can get it.

-Gaudette to Nash for Luke Prokop and a 3rd. Luke is a prototypical shutdown D with size and great skating. Just what the doc ordered.

-Virtanen to Cgy for the 18 yearold. Fresh start for both. Sam at least shows up for the playoffs.

-Pearsson 50% to MTL unite him w Toffoli. In return Joni Ikonen and a the lower of their 2 2nds. I think if we are retianing 50% on Pearson he should return late 1st quality however most teams will be clutching those tightly it will be very hard to procure one. Ikonen could be found money he has very high upside but has been derailed by injury and passed by Poehling and others. I think since we won't be able to afford to re sign Pearsson most teams will not be offering fair value. Toffoli may do his bro a solid and twist Marc's arm in MTL the way Pearsson did JB's.

With just over 150k in cap space this is literally the best lineup the Canucks can afford to put on the ice next season. Buuuut on the plus side Beagle, Roussel and Eriksson 12m influx the following season to super charge the team and finally boot the window wide open.

EDIT: Thread name changed due to public outcry.

The rub here is I would wager some or all of your points have been tried and failed. NObody is willing to  take any of our ' fringe' players for any value in return. It is us who would have to sweeten the pot with draft picks and retention. GMJB put us in such a corner that there is no escape. Any Cap Relief will go to Petey, Hughes, a top 4 D, a top 6 fwd. We got 1 more yr of the Luong recapture, 1 more yr of Loui, 1 more of Roussel, 1 more yr of Beagle, 3 more yrs of Myers & Ferland, we're hooped!!

Okay so it goes without saying that we also have to fire Green, Benning, and all the other coaches and probably the training staff too. Might as well fire the zamboni driver while we are at it as well, just to make sure we have a clean slate going forward.

That said, I have the basis for two huge deals that could really right the sinking ship for the Canucks, and I am here to offer them for free to whoever our new incoming GM would be!

    Trade #1:

    To Calgary: Demko, Hughes

To Vancouver: Markstrom, Tanev, 3rd round pick

Why Vancouver does this: It's time to jettison our overrated prospects who are clearly busts, before Calgary is any the wiser. Also we recoup the 3rd round pick that JB WASTED in the Schmidt trade.

Why Calgary does this: It's basically a free acquisition for them as they paid nothing to acquire Marky and Tanev, and they save some money off the salary cap from their over-expensive contracts.

This trade is a classic example of buy low, sell high. Demko and Hughes are at their peak value now but soon will be considered damaged goods when the Canucks continue on their 50-ish game losing streak this season.

    Trade #2:

To Montreal: Boeser, Petterson, 2021 first rd pick, 2022 first rd pick

    To Vancouver: Toffoli

Why Vancouver does this: We get a clear upgrade on offense in the HAT TRICK MACHINE Tyler Toffoli, and again we are selling players while value is high. Pettersson was widely regarded as a top up and coming rookie in this league up until about 10 days ago, but now it's clear that somehow he's lost all his talent like in Space Jam. Boeser and the two firsts are sweeteners as obviously Montreal doesn't give up a guy that scores 5 goals in 2 games for cheap.

Why Montreal does this: They get Pettersson as kind of a reclamation project, there's probably around a 2-3% chance that Petey returns to anything more than a shadow of his former self, but even at those odds MTL would be crazy not to take a flyer on Elias. Boeser is good for their AHL depth and the two first rounders can be used to draft whoever has the most french-sounding last name at the drafts.

I think if we quickly pull the trigger on these two deals and firing our entire coaching and training staff, hell, even fire the lady that makes copies in the office and bring in someone with more grit like Dan Hamhuis or Ryan Kesler to replace her - then we will be right back on track for a huge winning streak and a subsequent Stanley Cup Parade after this season.

If Buffalo has an internal cap then they would make a good trade partner.

They have only 10 fwds signed (plus 2 unsigned RFAs) and 8 defencemen signed (plus 1 unsigned RFA), 5 of which are RD.

Miller makes $3.875M this year for 2 more years... cap hit AND real dollars.

Trading him for Eriksson would increase their cap hit, but save them $2.75M in real $$ over the two years.

They'd resolve an excess RD problem and gain a fwd which they need.

Canucks have extra fwds right now and need RD.   They'd also save ~$2M in cap space.  And as a bonus, reunite Schmidt with Miller (who put up 2 good seasons with Vegas right before a bad year last year in Buffalo).

I put Eriksson+ in the title, presuming JB would need to add a sweetener pick/prospect.

Gee, I wonder why GMJB never thought of this?

Rick Dhaliwal on TSN1040: “Here’s an update on Loui Eriksson - no trade. What a shock. JP Barry is not a miracle worker, he’s not Houdini. Jim Benning has been trying to move him for 2+ years. The Canucks won’t pick up any part of the cap hit or add a sweetener.”

...this is why we may lose Tanev or/and Marky both to Free Agency.

This is supposed to be competent GMing? Look I’m proud of where JB got this team to but if the league has transitioned to winning with young players on ELC’s, then having kept Eriksson this long and still not finding a suitor only means our window to win is dented and closed that much more.

Playoff experience was great and all for the young guns to rally around and improve on. But how can the team get better if you don’t have available funds to be able to strengthen around them when in fact you’ll be doing the opposite actually by having quality roster casualties as a consequence? Eriksson’s cap is preventing a lot this team can do and it’s ability to improve. He wasn’t even played during the playoffs until necessary to fill-in for others so let’s not talk about him being a good role player for the bottom6...he’s not paid to and call a spade a spade, is a buyout worthy player holding this team back. So illogical that this is the stance management is taking

This was discussed on HNIC? or the radio, but essentially, Lou's bonus has been payed and the actual dollars ro be

    payed is around 2,5 million x 2yrs.

The Cap $ is 6 mil x 2 which may interest a team trying to get to the floor.

There seems to be a lot of buzz around this wonderful team we have.  Check out the below articles:

    https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/vancouver-canucks-allin-mentality-nhl-trades-could-lead-to-long-playoff-run-212916176.html

David Amber of CBC has also been high on us all year.

With the addition of Toffoli, Boesser rumored to have said he won't be out for a horrendous amount of time, and if Markstrom continues to play out of his mind, we could very well make AT LEAST the WCF.  This is a lot like 2011 in a lot of ways.  Other teams in the league are weak.  Wide-open playoff race.  1 more nice acquisition before the TDL and we may be able to make a strong run at the championship (although those 2 articles above already peg us for going deep).

I think we are likely to come out of the 1st round.  Then our opponent in Round 2 will be Vegas, Calgary, or Edmonton.  We have demonstrated the ability to crush all 3 of those teams this year.  So by virtue of playing against one of those 3 in the 2nd round, we have a somewhat greater chance of making to the WCF almost by default, just due to the luck of playoff seeding.

    What do you think?

    You're high !

  6. Basically, you have cited information everyone is aware of, nothing new here. Anyone can look back and say ..........

GMJB answers to the owner, no move is made without his approval, this is why he is the GM. Anyone with half a brain and some fortitude was fired by the

owner. What are you going to do if you replace GMJB? Owner will just hire who he wants and the cycle continues. Better if the owner would stop being like a Jerry Jones  ( look it up if you are too young to know ).

  7. I still think that no deal will get done, as much as I would like a bidding war to occur I still don't think it will happen.

I agree, GMMG will reluctantly scowl to the mic and make the pre-rehearsed rhetoric speach, 'we talked to a number of teams.. blah, blah, blah, but it's hard to make a trade and it's has to make sense...blah, blah, blah'

Buckle up , we've got Gillis for a few more years, like or not.

  8. At least guys we showed them that we won't get run over like in past years.

who gives a rat's ass, score some effin goals!

Big effin deal, we won't get pushed around, hell that's worth what? oh, ya ZERO POINTS in the standings, ZERO CHANCE of getting out of the first round.

GMMG, be proud, your small semi skilled team with so many core players locked to lengthy contracts will bite us in the ass for years to come.

  9. "@HackswithHaggs: Just saw a replay. Shawn Thornton yanked Orpik to the ice and then punched him twice in the head when he was down. Knocked him out cold"

"@penguins: Brooks Orpik wheeled off the ice on a stretcher. Updates as they become available."

"@JoeYerdonPHT: Match penalty for Thornton - as it should be."

    Absolutely garbage.

Will get a video up when it surfaces

    EDIT: Here's a vine of the incident : https://t.co/iEA1QNF6IE

    25 Games, no less

  10. I know allot of people are going to scorch me for this but I fail to see the reason why nobody questions his ability to play in the nhl. Every game i watch with him in the lineup(all of them) I find myself screaming at the tv because of the stupid stuff the guy does. Personally i'd rather have any of the guys that are fighting for a spot on the team rather than burrows. Everyone's #1 reason they like this guy from what I read on this forum "He's great on the pk. Who cares! Anyone can do this thats fighting for a spot. He can't score and i'm tired of kesler carrying this guy on his back night after night, I'm tired of him losing the puck, falling down everywhere seriously this guy falls down a hundred times a night can't he skate its ridiculous, stupid penalties its endless. "He plays with grit" is another common description tossed out when his name comes up. That ok sure he pisses off guys but fails to do really be able finish that job off by being able to fight because he can't. IMOP he's an embarrassment to the team. Please Gillis let this guy go keep Krog or Pettinger or Brown whoever. let er rip.

Clutch , Do we really need him? I propose a regulation that in order to post on CDC, one needs at the very least, a half a brain!
