  1. The people from Calgarypuck are absolutely disgusting people. Some are calling embellishment, diving, calling Daniel soft and omg i am embarrassed they are Canadian.

Why would you ever go to calgarypuck, when they talk trash about canucks 24/7. In fact they would hold a celebration if the canucks plane crashed and all the canucks players, staff and coaches died. They hate us that much to wish death upon our team. Wouldn't be surprised if half of their members are criminals.

  2. Likely no games, end of the season. Overall, the hit is from behind, but not as bad as many. No elbow to the head, didn't leave his feet. Just a bad hit from behind, maybe charging.

    Get well soon Danny

You must be joking, right? Bertuzzi also didn't leave his feet or use his elbow, so he didn't deserve any suspension for ending Moore's career. Give me a freaking break...

  3. Yes. But virtanen is raw. He has an unrefined skillset that needs developing but could pay off in spades, look how much he's developed this year alone. Ehlers on the other hand looks like what you see is what you're going to get. And I see Jordan Schroeder 2.0. Now I don't want them to use 6th overall on either of these players, however if I had to pick between the two I would take Virtanen.

Virtanen or Ehlers are possible players that you can pick outside of top 10 so am not sure why people are still debating on taking Virtanen at #6. I'd be fine with Virtanen if we had an extra 1st round pick to use on him. Although when you have the top 6 pick, you always go BPA.

  4. Good point. The kids aren't ready for the men's league at 18. Look at the botch job the Oilers have done on their picks for proof positive. Ehlers especially isn't ready at 165 lbs soaking wet. And Ehlers the guy I want.

The players that are ready and one we have a high chance picking is Dal Colle. Ekblad and Reinhart are the other two and they are the consensus #1 and #2 pick. Don't rule out a player we pick in this draft not cracking the roster. There could be some surprises in the summer camp.

  5. I've seen Virtanen play, I haven't seen the other two since they are in a completely different league without much access.

Ehlers was rated 22 at the mid term point, no way can you take that kind of gamble at 6th. Ritchie on paper looks good but that's all I can go off on.

Ritchie is the higher skilled version of Kassian with a much accurate shot. He will be ranked high in most of the draft lists the GMs prepare before the draft. Ehlers is also a more skilled player compared to Virtanen.

  6. This.

However, I agree. If Carolina wins this afternoon, which it indeed looks like they will, we are locked for the 6th pick. I want Ehlers at our pick, unless one of Draisaitl or Dal Colle magically falls down to us. However, even that's not too far fetched.

    Ehlers

    Kapanen

    Nylander

    Ritchie

    Perlini

    Virtanen

(my order without the big 5).

I see one of the big 5 sliding down. I see Edmonton trying to get a defenseman in the draft and might bypass getting a forward. I also see the Flames picking a big guy like Ritchie. There is definitely a high chance that we would get a crack at the top 5 players in the draft: Reinhart, Ekblad, Bennette, Dal Colle and Draistal. I would be fine with any of those players mentioned and I see one of them dropping to #6.

  7. Why don't people understand.

ANYONE we pick this year won't step into the league for three years at least.

We have a solid team and the ability to wait and develop these kids properly.

So if its Ritchie, Ehlers, Draistl, Bennett, Reinhardt, MDC or Virtanen expect to not see them for a while if you want them to pan out properly.

whoever we pick this and next season, it is imperative we develop them properly with a minimum of one full AHL season.

And hope for Ekblad, Reinhart or Dal Colle....

I see the NHL ready prospects as Ekblad, Reinhart and Dal Colle (who has NHL caliber wrist shot). It is the reason why I hope somehow Linden or the new GM can trade up to get those players if available.

  8. Or because central scouting has him rated higher than Ritchie and Ehlers

Central scouting isn't always right. I have watched Virtanen play and he just seems less skilled compared to a guy like Ritchie or Ehlers. But I don't know why we would take Virtanen that high. If we want another pick in the 1st round, then we could trade our 2nd plus a roster player to get into the top 15 and pick Virtanen. I still go with the guys I ranked higher than Virtanen.

  9. Reinhart, Ekblad, Bennett, Draisaitl, Dal Colle, Nylander, Richie, Kapanen, Perlini, Fleury and Virtanen all go before he does.

If we trade Kesler for a top D prospect and a pick in the 11-14 range, Ehlers wouldn't be a bad take. I'd look at getting Mantha from Detroit first though.

If we are trading Kesler, I would like to get an NHL ready prospect. I would definitely trade Kesler if we got Mantha and a roster player like Nyquist or Tatar. That would really speed up the re-tool process.

  10. We've always been wanting a local kid from the WHL who's a big strong guy, unless a guy falls from the top 5, I put my money on Virtanen

No way, you don't gamble all your money on a random number in roulette. In fact, I like to see Linden trade for a higher pick, maybe #2 if Ekblad is still available. We didn't sink this low just to draft Virtanen who could easily be picked at #16 or #17. There are a bunch of players that could be picked ahead of Virtanen like Ho Sang or Tuch.

  11. Lower mainland kid, winger from the WHL, power forward goal scorer, with great athletic ability Virtanen.

No way we pick Virtanen at #6. I don't care if he is from BC or Lower mainland. I want the best player available that is a fit for this team and addresses our need. #6 pick is a really important pick and is too high of a pick to go off board for a player like Virtanen. My ranking is:

    1. Ekblad

    2. Reinhart

    3. Bennett

    4. Draistail

    5. Dal Collie

    6. Ritchie

    7. Ehlers

    16. Virtanen

So If we had another mid 1st round pick, maybe we could've risked that pick for Virtanen. Although I would probably prefer Tuch over Virtanen.

  12. You don't fire a guy after 1 year. That's the type of decision an impatient 5 year old on ADD makes. What is the common denominator the last 4 years of the decline? It's the players! It's so blatantly obvious that we need new personnel, whether that be through a rebuild or via trade is another question entirely

Torts actually is not a fit for this team when we initially thought he was a fit, we were wrong. I think his system is more suited for a tougher, grittier teams like Boston Bruins and LA Kings. The Canucks still are more on the skills and finesse side of things when you evaluate players. Look at how many injuries we sustained playing Torts style. You really want to repeat this season next year too?

  13. Often/usually there is permission given, but the questions are: 1.) when will the Bruins allow Benning to walk?; 2.) why would the Bruins allow Benning to head to the Canucks any sooner than they reasonably have to?

They might indeed no longer want Benning to participate in Bruin business related to areas like the draft, as Benning could take any future information from Bruins' scouting reports and use that to assist the Canucks (or another team) with their selections.

There is also the possibility that Benning is working on a lesser project for the Bruins, which is still a couple of months away from completion, so why would they de-rail their own stuff in order to help the Canucks with their "re-what-ever" they're doing?

    regards,

    G.

Why? Because he would be a GM of a team instead of an assistant GM with a higher salary, more responsibility and more satisfaction. Its not up to the Bruins if he wants to go to another team, the Bruins can't lock him up unless he doesn't want to leave. The decision will be up to Benning, and what organization wouldn't allow their workers the ability to land a job at a higher position.

  14. I feel that we should bring in Markus Naslund as GM.

No way, they need an experienced coach especially since we have an inexperienced president of hockey operations. The Bruins assistant GM is perfect, since he knows what it takes to build a cup winning team. Markus Naslund could be hired as an advisor or maybe a scout.

  15. Did anyone even listen to Aquilini speak at the presser. "Theres the right way to play, theres the wrong way to play...theres a bunch of different ways to play..."

    He's a moron.

How is he qualified to hand pick a great president. Linden should have paid his dues in a complimentry role like every other former player whose gone on to do great things. This is a rash decision. I was also discouraged by their mid-June time frame. NHL drafts are an exausting process that takes months and months of preperation. Read a book on it. Hiring a GM a week or two before the draft is about a boneheaded decision as you can make.

How is he qualified to hand pick a great president? Because he is the owner of the team and can do what he wants. Maybe you should buy the team so you can hand pick a great president. Or better yet, go cheer for the laffs since canucks are a "laughing stock".

  16. wooops... I forgot to post the standings as of March 15 2014, not that long ago. The Leafs were literally alone in 3rd place

    http://www.nhl.com/ice/standings.htm?season=20132014&type=con&date=03/15/2014

At that time, they scored huge victories against the best teams in the west, prior to that date with big wins in Anahiem and Los Angeles. The excuse of them being in a weaker conference was invalid. They just showed they can beat even the best teams in the West!

But wow... who would have thought... drop 8 games in a row. Epic fail. No excuses.

So what? We beat Los Angeles too and dominated them physically. Its not like they were better than Anaheim or LA. Any team can beat any other team at a given night.

  17. I'm fully supportive of bringing in Feaster, as it's time to tank this sucker.

No GM is going to be able to wave his magic wand and get us franchise players. You get that via the draft. That means tanking this sucker. Like how we got the Sedins in the first place.

When we're done the tank job then you bring in figureheads like Linden/Nazzy etc. and good hockey personnel so we can try to win with the new core. This is pretty much a standard approach to rebuilding a team.

If we bring in figureheads like Linden/Nazzy etc. and good hockey personnel before we have new franchise players onboard/ready, well then you're wasting them.

If firing Feaster equates to drafting McDavid, BRING IT ON!!!

Shouldn't you be following the laffs or the oilers , since you like tanking and losing so much?

  18. OMG JAY FEASTER IS GONNA BE the guy,,,, only gm who will be down with tortz, AQ doestn wanna pay out the contract after firing gillis

    I dont want feaster :sadno:

Well then... Goodbye sedins, Kessler etc...all will be traded for Jankowski. Canucks fans got their wish, AV fired, MG fired... Now we will see what happens next.

  19. Wait...

Are some people in this thread trashing Gillis as a bad GM and yet praising Feaster???

Canucks fans have the memory of a gold fish. Then you have another poster saying that ownership should listen to it's fans when it comes to hockey decisions like it's a pizza franchise.

  20. you mean business owners listening to their customers the people who pay their bills is a big problem??

When it comes to critical hockey decisions, yeah, it will be a huge problem. Then we would have millions of GMs instead of one.
