  1. No no no, you guys don't understand.

The people complaining are all Southsiders themselves. These are guys who've been watching the 'Caps since the old Swanguard days, standing in the original Southside on the grass and on those rickety bleachers.

These aren't a bunch of uninformed tourists who just showed up and weren't happy about it.

There's been an ongoing thing between some people in the section for a multitude of reasons I don't really want to get into.

I think it was a great gesture to have the banners and to show support for our ladies, but like I said earlier, before the match, and during half-time would have been just as effective without being inconsiderate. Doing it in the 12th minute singles out Sinclair (who obviously put the team on her back), belittles the performance of the team as a whole, and disrupts the viewing of the game for a lot of people.

Don't get me wrong, I think it was a great way to show support, but again, I think it could have been executed better.

I totally agree with you. I would be pissed off if someone put up a banner in front of me even though it is for the good.

I've seen fans put banner at european soccer game, but they would put the banner in front of them but not obstructing people them. Banner can still be seen as long as they are standing

  2. I don't think it's harsh, no. Rules are rules, and Rooney has a history of having a bit of a temper and lashing out on the pitch so he deserves the full 3 games.

Somewhat agree with you. Rooney did have a history of bad temper. However it really feels like FIFA really "go after" an England player again. He got a red card, 1 game that's totally fine. The problem is the extra 2 they tagged on him after. If you look at the hearing report the FIFA tagged on 1 extra game because England was planning to appeal. Anyways, I always believe there's someone "behind" the UEFA and FIFA. I would bet Messi gets nth if he does the same thing.

however, 3 games in UEFA is harsh. that's more like comparing suspending a player 3 games in SCF = 6 games in regular season

  3. The Southsiders have recently started to have capos with megaphones. They are bound to get better, but it's not gonna happen overnight. Before the MLS, how many cared about the Whitecaps? It's easy to throw out criticism, but these guys have been there for the Whitecaps for years before many cared (at least since they became a lower level team). I'll give them some time to get things going, but what is gonna help is people willing to help them grow and not throw them under the bus so soon. Vancouver is too well known for this and just expects things to miraculously happen.

I never heard of the Southsiders until I attended the games this season. I didn't know that they are "official" fan club for the Whitecaps too. If they want to expand, I think they need a lot of help from the Whitecap organization. If the Canucks creates/prompts an official fan club membership I am sure there will be tons of people joining.. compare to fan club membership named "the Canucks'er" or something like that.

I've been a lot Whitecaps games this season and I've sat in different section. The crowd is dead silent other than the 2 ends of the field. The sections behind the bench or the so-called "Premium season-ticket section" was horrible.. Try to stand up and cheer (even for a corner kick), you will get yell at from left, right, behind... and trust me, there's only a few "fans" in those sections.

The corner sections are much better because 1) cheaper ticket price and 2) closer to the net so much more excited. However, it is extremely difficult to get people singing and chanting with you. The section I sat last game was supposed to be "family zone", there was a guy who tried to rally us to "fight" the singing from the Timber Army. He stood up and yell "Come on !! Go Caps Go", he was a very passionate fan but after 10 seconds or so.... no one responded and the people look at him like he's drunk.. the security guy even walked up to him and "monitor" him closely.

  4. That's a big part of why they come through clearer on TV though. I was in section 230 (same end as the timbers army but other corner) and the Southsiders seemed to start off a bit slow but really picked it up during the first half. In the 2nd half things were pretty dead though. I guess that's what happens when your team looks like they aren't putting any effort in at all

First half was dominated by the Timbers. However, the goal they scored was because of (one of the many) mistake we made and poor coverage. The Caps had more possession in the 2nd half, but you can see that despite their effort they couldn't generate any offense. Hassli once again was the targeted man and was being watched by 2 or 3 Timbers when he got the ball. To be honest though, it was clearly that the Caps does not have enough quality players on the pitch. This is their first season so i cut them some slack (rmb this is first season of the Timbers too) . Anyways I wish they could put the Southsiders where the Timbers' fans are.. not sure why they would put them into the far corner

  5. The timbers army was much closer to the mics

that's not really the real reason though..

They have entire upper half of 1 section occupied, i guess at least 200+ fans there.. All dressed up and prepared to take the house down. The sign, dance for ENTIRE game. On the other hand, the Southsiders are sitting are the far far corner and I could barely hear them. (i sat near the corner flag, the lower section of the same one where the Timer fans were). To be honest with you, the Timber fans are really passionate and they were friendly too. One thing that surprised me was that they cheered when we sang the Canadian anthem. I met a few of them at the food stand and they were all friendly. The stadium itself is nice, very clean and u can see high LCD tv everywhere. on the other hand, the turf sucks.. seems like they can do a lot better than that. I took a lot of picture of the stadium, anyone wants me to post them?

  6. Doors open probably an hour prior to the game. It should be a good game to go to as we are playing a rival, not just on the pitch, but there will be a battle amongst the supporter groups too. Make sure you look out for the tifo before the start of the match.

    what is tifo??

Gonna go to the game tomorrow. Can't wait to check out the newly refurbished stadium and the giant score board

  7. Earthquake, tsunami, nuclear plant radiation leak / potential explosion.. and on Monday morning local time there's a volcano eruption near the southern part of Japan and another 6.1 earthquake on the west coast of Japan. No one will ever know how horrible terrify tsunami is unless you are in the middle of one.
