  1. Looks like a good pick and could well prove to be BPA, but we definitely do not need more RW despite what some are saying. Leaving older players like Burrows, Dorsett and Hansen out of the discussion, we still have Kassian, Virtanen, Grenier and Jensen. We are deeper at RW than any other position, even C.

Jensen and Kassian are both in different ways out of favor with the front office. They've commented publicly about their issues with them. Clearly not the building blocks going forward. Jensen looks just as likely to never make it as he is too make it at best.

Virtanen and Jensen can also both play LW. And there's a very easy case to make that Virtanen is better on the left side.

Drafting by position is how you end up with no NHL talent in your system. To be a successful franchise long term taking the BPA is an absolute must.

Not everyone makes it, players get traded, team needs change, and lots of players can change position. Drafting for positions is not only dumb, it's self destructive.

  2. No, he played a bit on the left but this season almost full time and a pretty down year for him.

No. This was his 1st year playing full time on the right dude. He's been a LW for most of his career.

  3. Virtanen isn't very good on the left side, I don't think Cassels is close but a good summer working on his stride and adding muscle could change that.

To be honest that's a really weak line-up, but that means a high pick so I'm in!

Scored 45G playing left wing almost full time...

  4. If they going to just sit him, than it is better off to let him stay in the AHL. Furthermore, AHL playoff experience will be great for him. The knock on Baertschi is he doesn't like to do battles along the boards. So either send him down or bench either Vey, Dorsett or Kennins.

Why in the world would Dorsett come out? The guy gives you everything every night and is the only semblanes of grit in the line up

  5. You watch alot of Utica games?

Actually, not too sure what you mean by 'zero ability power game'. I seem to remember him driving the net, and such, in his stints with the nucks. Small sample but he seemed to use his frame and strength quite a bit from what I remember.

I follow them very closely and watch a lot of tape on players. I spend a lot of time getting to know minor league players and their tendencies.

You could also ask the exact same question if the guy I was responding to, but you won't because you want to believe Jensen is something he's not.

  6. Different type of forwards.

Baertschi is supposed to be a smaller guy who will put up points. A Mike Cammelleri or Patrick Kane style of player.

Jensen was drafted as a Loui Eriksson or Marian Hossa type player. Bring offense, but it's his strength and defensive awareness that's also strong.

Far from the truth with Jensen, he is anything but strong and good in his own end. He shows zero ability to play a power game despite his size and is completely lost in his own zone.

Sven is a far superior offensive player while still having the short comings Jensen has.

  7. Rodin should play in the WHL next seeason since he is going to prospect training camp

That doesn't mean squat, he is signed in the SEL. He's coming to Canucks prospect camp because guess what.... HES A CANUCKS PROSPECT!!! Then he will be going back to Sweden to play with his SEL club, i dont get why people think PROSPECTS going to PROSPECT CAMP means anything other than their Canucks PROSPECTS!!!

  8. Excuse me. If that's your chart for the chances of NHL. In my opinion, it should be like this:

    1. Grabner

    2. Hodgson

    3. Shroeder

    4. White

    5. Rodin

Grabner is easily the closest to crack the big club, followed by Hodgson.

Not bad, not bad at all.

Cody will make the team before Grabner, and usually when rating prospects its who will be a better player when put in order.

    Hodgson

    Schroeder

    Grabner

    Rodin

    Sauve

    Ellington

    White

In terms of impact at the NHL level.

  9. Yep. Two straight drafts Gillis has snagged guys who shouldnt have been avail when it became his turn. I wonder if GMs are able to be LUCKY at drafts. If there is such a stigma. Whatever it is, Gillis also had the smarts to take ADVANTAGE of it and draft them.

Add 4 inches to Schroeder and he goes 4th overall before Evander Kane. If the 4 inches makes him faster, he then goes 3rd overal to colorado.

Combine had him rated as a better skater than Duchene the speed part of that post is false.

Awsome pick, great talent, needs to be insulated with guys who can handle the physical workload.

  10. He should spend at least another year in the NCAA. With Stoa gone. Schroeder will be to "go to" guy with the Gophers. Plus, he'll go back to World JR USA. Lots of experience can be gained.

Ya i expect him to be a winger in the NHL, just wondering if he played behind or with Stoa.

  11. Schroeder did play on the top line and top pp units. The problem is, Ryan Stoa will be tough to replace and Schroeder may struggle just a bit without a big forward with skill such as Stoa.

Stoa is a center as well, did they actually play together other than the PP?

His season last year is VERY impressive, looks like a steal at this point. If Pat Kane can be as successfull as he is at his size in the western conference Schroeder should be fine, hes thicker and stronger. Another good pick by Gillis.
