Like The Lower Mainland itself, this famous thread suffers from urban sprawl. The topic has been & gone. To fit these uncertain times, the header should be placed in the past:
Burrows, Did We Really Need Him?
Yes we did, folks..& indeed, needed MORE players, like him. Ultimately though, we couldn't overcome the corruption of Bettman's rigged deck.
I'm actually proud that this guy scratched, mucked & clawed out an overachieving career, after such an unheralded(undrafted) beginning. Many of us, in our sometimes overly-frustrating, 'daily grind', have probably received inspiration(& lived a little vicariously) though AB's accomplishment.
Today, we sure do NEED a few more. But such cases are few & far between.
well said, hoss. well said

i might have to revise my 12G/20A prediction for Burr this season....New prediction 8G/15A. Still not bad for an ECHL grinder

pretty much time for burr to prove all the haters wrong...14G, 20A in 2016/17. watch and weep

Yet people were saying that about the Sedins not long ago too too. And, well, we'd be hooped without them so the past sometimes is needed as we transition to the future. They are instrumental in that, and Burr's a huge part of that room.
When production in the way of numbers falls off, it isn't always for good. And when players contribute in other ways and do quietly go about their business as asked to, there can still be a role for them, even if diminished.
Not to compare him to Burr, but Yzerman comes to mind....

He'll always be the dragon-slayer. Not that he should rest on his laurels. However, he is still an effective player. Maybe he's overpaid for his current role and point production, but add in the bargain he was back then and it all evens out.

in case y'all weren't aware, there IS more to being a Canuck than your current on-ice performance. Burr has a history and has earned every day he spends in a Canucks uniform.

burrows and bieksa will both be back in some type of coach/scout/management role. i'd be willing to put money on it

Burrows - no shots, no hits, no goals, no assists in the whole Kraft Hockeyville game. he's a has-been. Trade him for 7 pucks and a refill on the locker room bubblegum machine.

I'm not sure what about your post makes my brain hurt more. The fact you called Trevor Linden a B tier or said Kesler is the best 2 way player in Canucks history... He's good, but not that good.
Who do you propose IS the best 2 way if not Kesler? No other has won a Selke. No 2 way Dman surpasses him either....

Wow, that's seven years ago this was posted. Why wasn't it frozen seven years ago? What a silly thread.
it's got a life of its own, getting better and better with age. as for burrows, if he can stay healthy you'll see yet another hardworking and clutch performing season. go back and look up the "streak breaker" for a reminder!

mclean is a tool. burr is a multiple 20+ goal guy. i think the hockey world knows who the better man is

burrows has an injury prone shoulder...we should trade him
-
When will Burrows start brying his chances...35 goals but nothing in the playoffs. Do we really want him??
-
This thread is sweet...I wish there was something new to add, but 82 pages later, it's pretty much all been said....

Clutch! HAHAHAHA
Isn't that the very definition of IRONY??
How could one man(?)have been so wrong?
blame management, blame coach, but also blame this lazy, entitled, soulless core, starting from Horvat/Pettersson/Boeser
