  1. Had a .923 save percentage on a TERRIBLE BUF team and then struggled on a drastically better defensive team in STL. I wonder if Miller is a volume goaltender who reacts better to the more pucks he sees.

I know it's the most recent, but the sample size in St Louis is too small.

However bad some people are saying Miller is now, you think Lack is better?

He doesn't have the chops yet, and to have a mentor like Miller around for 2-3 seasons would propel Lack's game to another level that would take much longer to achieve without an experienced number 1 to learn from.

  2. Ummmmmm

    No

    That is MY opinion.

That is a stated fact about the youth of goaltenders on marquee teams

And that is the truth about our current goaltending depth.

Looking at our Goals Against last year, that was not the issue as we were middle of the pack with Lack who supplanted Luongo and then played something like 19 straight games where our teams goals per game hovered around 1.14.

Goaltending is not our problem. Goal scoring is

Youth is one thing. Comparing Lack and Markstrom to the goalies you listed is farcical.

How many cups between the five guys you listed?

Even they had tutelage. Miller could mentor Lack to greatness.

Seriously. Quick, Howard, Niemi , Crawford and Rask? Could you have tried any harder to cherry pick a better handful of young goalies to illustrate your point? How about a list , now, of all of the worst NHL goal tenders under 26 to offset the list of elites you just trotted out?

    For christ sake.

  3. No. I think Canucks should go after Jonas Hiller on July 1st. Signing Jonas Hiller makes a lot of sense as it takes pressure off Eddie Lack, lets Jacob Markstrom find his game in the AHL and it shouldnt cost too much anyway.

    This.

There is no reason we can't walk an chew gum at the same time. Play for today, plan for tomorrow. That's how a real GM takes care of business.

All of the #1 picks in the world don't promise future success. Look at Edmonton. They've had what, three #1 in a row? 4? I've lost count. The only thing they got out of it is suck-cess.

Win today, dominate tomorrow. Never tank for magic beans. Ever.

  4. I don't think Burrows under consideration for buyout is that far fetched. He is a declining 33 year old and Canucks are on the hook for four more years at 4.6 million. Another example of the bad contracts and NTCs Mike Gillis left this organization saddled with.

Careful. That logic/reason stuff can get you into trouble 'round these parts.
  5. why are you talking about the team, i said the city didn't deserve it, of course the team that hoists the stanley cup deserves it

" isn't it good for the league and the game for that "cesspool" to win a couple of cups to elevate awareness of the game? "

i hate this mindset. why would i care if the people in sunbelt cities become hockey fans? what's with this "the game needs to grow, we need more exposure" cr*p? i wish they would stick to their football (stupidest sport ever invented), sissyboy baseball and lame basketball and leave hockey to the real cities.

" I think the real problem is that you are bitter and sour grapes that the Canucks couldn't get it done "

you don't have to go back to 2011, i'm bitter and sour grapes that montreal couldn't get it done against the rangers. i'm not ashamed to admit that i wanna see a real hockey town where the stanley cup playoff ratings trumps every other stuff on tv hoisting the cup.

TV ratings. A real hockey town has better TV ratings?

    I get it now.

  6. a city that didn't deserve a hockey team in the first place. kings can win three more titles, but hockey will always be an afterthought in that superficial cesspool

There are some who would say the team that plays the best and wins four games in the finals is the team that "deserved" it.

And if hockey is an afterthought, as you say, isn't it good for the league and the game for that "cesspool" to win a couple of cups to elevate awareness of the game?

Yeah, I think the real problem is that you are bitter and sour grapes that the Canucks couldn't get it done when they got to the dance and the Kings got it done each of the last two times they went.

It would be sad if it weren't so funny.

  7. Losing is losing. At least go out with pride and dignity

If losing is losing, what difference does it make how you "go out"?

You seem to want to hate the Canucks and love the Rags. But the Canucks played better than the Rags, despite not having as much star power.

Did they get abused? Yes. Would stooping to the Bs level give them more dignity somehow? According to you: yes.

  8. this is what, the 8th time a gary bettman town winning the stanley cup? disgusting times for hockey :picard:

By Gary Bettman town you mean what exactly? He's from LA? He built LA? He invented LA? He named LA? I don't understand. Is this a tinfoil hat comment? Did Gary bettman tell Lundqvist to serve up that rebound to Martinez in the second OT?

    Elaborate . . .

  9. Even though the rangers lost, at least they gave it their all in this elimination game. Us on the other hand, we rolled over and handed Boston the cup in 2011. That game pretty much ruined that entire run for me

Rolled over and shut Boston out twice and won 3 out of 7. Boy, NY really showed us how it's done by winning only one game out of 5.

Funyy how AV was at the helm of both of those situations.

  10. So if AV was our coach we would be in the cup final? Really? Here's a news flash, if NYR was in the western conference they would be a wildcard playoff team and would not make it past the second rd.

Maybe a bit better than wildcard.

But I would argue that if the Rangers were in the West and had Sutter as a coach they'd be pretty close to where they are right now.

AV is a good coach. That 's it. Good. He rode Luongo to victory in Vancouver and has ridden Lundquist to victory in NYC. He's great in the regular season: that has been proven already.

Those saying he wasn't "the" problem are correct. Those saying he wasn't part of the problem are delusional.

His inability to adjust will leave him winless when it counts, yet again.

  11. Q: Are you a mod or a rocker?

    Ringo: I'm a mocker.

The forums have zero bearing on whether a player gets traded. Hodgson would still be here if that were the case.

Sports fans are fickle. One minute you are the best two way center in the NHL, the next you are old, injury prone and selfish. Try not to let it ruin your day. It's just chit chat. No one's opinion on this message board is worth a steaming pile of dung, anyway - present company included.

  12. I thought that Kesler gave that list at the trade deadline last March? Not sure if he is still willing to try and get away from Tortorella though :-).

My biggest dream is for the Canucks to trade the Sedins while they still have value. I know that many in Canuckville think that they are untouchable, but I look at this differently. My goal is for Vancouver to win a cup, and they have not been able to do that with the Sedins. I would probably pass-out on draft day if I hear that Vancouver has traded the Sedins to the Islanders for John Tavares and a first round pick....but after I "come-to" I would also be uncorking the champagne :-).

While we're on the subject, we know that Florida is also open to trading for their first round pick. We also know that they are looking for defencemen -- hint, hint ;-). And we know that Edler and Beiksa have been mentioned in trade talks for months now. So why not sweeten the pot, and try to trade Edler, Bieksa plus perhaps Burrows for their first round pick and Jonathan Huberdeau?

None of this might ever happen...but would it not be wise to at least ask? :-). The Canucks' organization has mentioned on more than one occasion that they will become younger and tougher...so that's my plan.

Whether these trades would happen or not is questionable...but you have to admit that Vancouver season tickets would probably sell-out in a day if Vancouver suddenly acquired Tavares, Huberdeau, and 3 first round draft picks in the top 6 overall...not to mention $20-million free in cap space :-). And even if Vancouver does become top-heavy with centres...that could just mean more trades and more building too.

    Comic Sans.

  13. Torts took the same team AV has now, minus a couple marquis players, to the ECF last year. We can assume a department store manequin could have done that. Conversely, we can assume a department store manequin could have done what Torts did with the Canucks this season.

AV wasn't the problem. Conversely, AV is nothing special. He's a coach on yet another stacked team with a goalie, yet again, playing out of his mind. He doesn't het the blame from me anymore. Nor does he get an ounce of the credit.

  14. I disagree. The worst way to lose is not fighting back when the going gets tough; see Canucks game 7, 2011.

They gave up. The Habs didn't.

That's asinine. The Habs are the ones who acted with class in this incident. The Canucks didn't buy into the Bruins antics and lost. The Habs didn't buy into the Bruins antics and won. The difference? The Habs were the beneficiaries of the league growing tired of the Bruins antics, the Canucks weren't.

  15. At least Burrows has a job.

I'm sure Burrows will sleep fine with his millions of dollars.

I'm sure he will sleep fine, too. And he will work again. He has a winning track record. Cup Ring.

I'm of the unpopular opinion that Burr is a rat. That means I'll get ganged up on. Who cares?

Also, I have no special place in my heart for Torts. Frankly, I think he's a jerk. But people talking smack as though Torts doesn't know what he's talking about. He coached in the NHL. And is a champion.

Or, no. Wait. I mean, how dare a coach push for a buyout when a player has an absolutely miserable season!?!?!

    That's CDC's job.
