  1. ANH has begun the media posturing...

Saying they are interested in Spezza,

I know they would rather have Kes but they are clearly floating that out there to let Benning know they have other options.

Our leverage is slipping away by the day,

We have just lost leverage with CHI and ANH,

I think it's too late now.

They didn't strike while the iron was hot, they pulled an MG and waited for un-realistic deal to happen.

I expect to have an un-happy Kesler in training camp, and a Luongo 2.0 situation to drag on through out the season, before we finally either lose Kes to FA, or let him go for much less then what has been offered.

The market was re-hot for Kes and now it has cooled significantly.

Why don't we wait until draft before freaking out.

  2. It's out there,

    http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=60628

The Shaw offer was reported several days ago,

The TT connection I am just assuming, I can't imagine Benning even discussing a deal that didn't start with with him.

Benning is on record as saying he wants something to help us now, and in the future.

So my guess is that TT was agreed on for the future, the NOW player was what they couldn't agree on.

ah, I'll wait to hear it from a more reliable source.

I doubt Shaw would ever be traded... Will wait and see in the next few weeks.

  3. So, we now know that CHI offered Shaw and Terravainen,

Benning countered with Saad and Terravainen

CHI walked away from the deal.

Terravainen is a top center prospect and Shaw is Marchand in the making, and a 20 goal scorer to boot.

Would FLA have taken Shaw and 6th for 1st overall?

Did we walk away from a great deal?

Could we have both Terravainen and Reinhart in our prospect pool, having made this deal? Add Horvat to the list and that is scary center ice depth.

huh? How do we know this?

And I assume you mean Shaw OR TT

  4. Honestly I would be happy with getting Tarasenko and a 1st for Kesler and our 2nd.

Here is my tradeable offers for Kesler according to what Benning would be interested in.

    Detroit - Mantha + Tatar/or sheehan + 1st

    Philly - Loughton + S.Morin + 1st

    Anaheim - Etem + Rakell/Theodore/Palmeiri + 1st

    Pittsburgh - Pouliot + Bennett/Blueger + 1st

Columbus - I'd really only want R.Johansen in a 1-1 deal. maybe add a prospect from their end.

    6th team ?

We should be doing backflips if we got any of these kinds of returns, the only realistic one is Anaheim, sorta.

  5. They are still not explosive players and very similar. Reinhart is the smarter player, he is the better player but Reinhart is on another level. Their skating isn't significantly better than the other but nonetheless it isn't very good. Reinhart isn;t a gamebreaker I see him as a 2nd line center that makes smart decisions but can't break the game open.

Ekblad is a franchise defensemen, Reinhart isn't close to a franchise player.

Most scouts peg Ekblad as someone who will play very soon and play a long time but he isn't slated to become a number 1 franchise defense.

Reinhart has more possible upside IMO

  6. ^yep, why it's a good possibility Florida may trade it with them publicly stating they are shopping it. They are in a win now mode and want impact ready players than young players 2-3 years away from making an impact.

"The 1st overall pick has been traded five times in NHL history (and Florida has been the team moving the pick on three of those occasions)."

I think they're trying to make the most of Luongo and they desperately need butts in seats. Winning games will do that.

  7. When was the last time the 1st overall was even traded? I can;t think of one in the last 20 years...

I feel like we're getting sucked in by hype and something that is very unlikely to ever happen.

I think it's more likely we acquire the 2nd or even 3rd overall if we're going to trade up.

I dont have the exact source but in history 5 first overall picks have been dealt, the panthers being the team that has dealt 3 of the 5. I believe Vancouver is one (with the Sedin trade) with the Thrashers pick.

  8. There is no Tavares, Stamkos, Crosby here. Reinhart is good but he's not 2 players who are emerging in the NHL as serious NHL'ers and two top ten picks good man...

You know it's kind of funny and ironic you specifically mention Tavares, Stamkos, and Crosby...

Reinhart actually out produces Stamkos, and is .1 PPG behind Tavares. (.96 PPG behind Crosby)

Take a read, it's an interesting article.

  9. Tanev and Dal Colle

    Tanev and Draisatl

    Tanev and Bennet

So you're expecting the draft to go something like

    FLA: Ekblad

    BUF: Reinhart

    EDM: Bennett

    CGY: Dal Colle

    NYI: Nylander/Ehlers/Ritchie

    VAN: Draisaitl

    or

    FLA: Ekblad

    BUF: Reinhart

    EDM: Draisaitl

    CGY: Dal Colle

    NYI: Nylander/Ehlers/Ritchie

    VAN: Bennett

    or

    FLA: Ekblad

    BUF: Reinhart

    EDM: Draisaitl

    CGY: Bennett

    NYI: Nylander/Ehlers/Ritchie

    VAN: Dal Colle

the Dal Colle option is the most likely of the three, the rest are far fetches.

If we pick at 6, I am guessing

    80% chance Virtanen

    10% Dal Colle

    5% Ehlers

    5% Nylander

  10. Again, the article implies that TL wouldn't ask Elder to waive, it doesn't actually quote him.

“There isn’t a team in the league that wouldn’t have its hand up for the opportunity to have an Alex Edler. It’s not in our consideration. We want to work with Alex; we have to get his game back, and I know he’s committed to doing that.”

I think that, for all intents and purposes, means he won't be asking Edler to waive this season at least, they want to try reclaim him.
