  1. My hot take:

David Reinbacher is the steal of this draft. Did you see and hear how humble that kid is during his interview?

I've seen a trend in the past 8 or so years. The more humble a player he/she is about something, they seem to do so much greatness in their careers.

  2. Before I make my proposal, there are only three ways that the Canucks get Bedard.

    1. Canucks win draft lottery

    2. Bedard pulls a Lindros to come to Vancouver

    3. Vancouver signs him as a UFA in 2030/31 (take into consideration a possible lockout between now & then)

    Now for the proposal...

    To NYR:

Bo Horvat (50% retained salary), NYR 2023 4th (from the Motte trade) + VAN 2024 6th

    To VAN:

    Alex Lafreniere + NYR 2023 2nd

    To PIT:

Connor Garland + Luke Schenn (30% retained salary)

    To VAN:

Kaspari Kapanen + NJD 2023 3rd (from Marino Trade)

    To MIN:

Brock Boeser & Kyle Burroughs (50% retained salary)

    To VAN:

    Matt Dumba + MIN 2023 4th

At the draft, assuming we pick 7th overall, where we are in the standings right now:

To whomever has the 1st OA:

    Alex Lafreniere, Jonathan Lekkerimaki, VAN 2023 1st (7th OA), NYR 2023 2nd, NJD 2023 3rd, and VAN 2024 1st

    To VAN:

2023 1st overall to get Bedard

  3. So, I have really gotten back on the Canucks bandwagon hardcore again. I've always been a fan, but I think this next season could be a big one.

So far, the Canucks lines and D-pairings look something like this with everyone who is under contract for next season.

    Miller-Pettersson-

            -Horvat-

    Pearson-Dickinson-Podkolzin

                 -                -

    OEL-Myers

    Hughes-

    Dermott-Poolman

    Hunt, Schenn

    Demko-Martin

That is 56.4/82.5 salary committed to 16 players, including the buyout money to Holtby, Virtanen, and Ferland's LTIR $$$.

Players who start in AHL: Rathbone, Hoglander, Burroughs, Dowling and Woo.

For the discussion part, what moves would you like to see the Canucks make? Fill in the blanks.

For me, I would like to see something along the lines of this:

    Trade:

    To NJD:

Garland, 15th OA, our 2022 3rd round pick (79th) and our 2023 2nd round pick

    To VAN:

    2nd OA

    Draft:

Juraj Slavkovsky (0.925 ELC) and put him into the lineup.

    Signings and Re-signings:

Re-sign Lammikko, Highmore and Hunt to no more than 2.5 million spread around them (0.825-0.850 salary)

    Re-sign Boeser to a contract no higher than 6 million (1, 2 or 3 years) - there's 21 players now with 9.525 million added (65.125/82.5 now).

Sign Filip Forsberg to an 7 year $64 million deal (9.142 AAV)

Sign Nick Deslauriers to a 3 year deal at $6.75 million (2.250 AAV)

Sign Noel Acciari to 2 years at $3.5 million (1.750 AAV)

Sign Josh Manson to 5 years at $25 million (5.000 AAV)

All of this puts the Canucks at 82.39/82.5

After, Ferland's LTIR will kick in a little extra cap room for call-ups.

    New lineup looks like this:

    Miller-Pettersson-Forsberg

    Slafkofsky-Horvat-Boeser

    Pearson-Dickinson-Podkolzin

    Deslauriers-Lammikko-Lockwood

    Highmore (Hoglander, Dowling)

    OEL-Myers

    Hughes-Manson

    Dermott-Poolman

    Hunt, Schenn

    (Rathbone, Burroughs)

    Demko-Martin

    (DiPietro, Silovs)

    (Bracketed players represent AHL)

I think going all in and bridging the gap with a star now would be beneficial for this season and going forward.

Locking up someone like Forsberg can give the team a boost to the current roster.

But if the Canucks are only fighting for a playoff spot, trading one of Miller, Horvat or Boeser could give the team some assets going forward for a re-tool/re-build.

I also believe we have a lot of other good players waiting in the wings like Linus Karlsson and Danila Klimovich who could get looks this season.

I also think Poolman can have a bounce-back season under a new system while keeping him to 3rd pairing and PK roles.

If Slafkovsky doesn't make the team, someone like Hoglander can step right into a 2nd/3rd line role.

    What do you think?

I (hopefully) won't be making many more proposals and will ride out this offseason, excited for what is to come.

Picks matter little to Tampa when they are in their win now window.  They've been moving 1st rounders to get guys like Coleman, Goodrow.  There's really no reason to think they want to downgrade their D-corps and take Poolman as a cap dump in return.

Boudreau calls Garland a 3rd liner and another GM felt he was overpaid.  He's not some gifted goal scorer either.  Don't see him having that kind of trade value.

I see, I see. I was trying to find the most affordable RHD to pair with Hughes moving forward. I was originally looking at Parayko, but I didn't realize he re-signed with STL.

So Slakovsky can step right into a top-6 role in Vancouver but he couldn't in NJD - why would NJD want a tiny forward that is more expensive and older?

Can't see why Tampa would do the 2nd trade to downgrade their defence when they are in a win now window.  Tampa uses Sportlogiq for their analytics - Sportsnet using that same technology graded Poolman as one of the worse off-season signings last summer.

    I changed the Cernak deal to a 2023 1st.

And I think 3 picks plus a top-6 forward at a reasonable and controllable contract for Slafkovsky is fair value. I could still be wrong though.

  6. Trades:

    To NJD:

Garland, 15th OA and the two 2023 4th round picks (VAN & NYR)

    To VAN:

2nd OA (draft Slafkovsky) and NJD 3rd round pick

    To TBL:

Hoglander, Poolman and 2023 1st round pick

    To VAN:

Cernak and 2022 4th round pick (CHI)

    Signings & Re-signings:

Re-sign Boeser to a 1-3 contract with an AAV of anywhere between 6-6.5 million
Re-sign Lammikko, Highmore and Hunt to $825,000 deals

Sign Filip Forsberg to an 8 year 64-68 million for an AAV of 8-8.5 million

Sign Nick Deslauriers to 2 or 3 years with an AAV of 1.25-1.5 million

If there is room, sign Noel Acciari to a contract as well.

    Lineup:

    Miller-Pettersson-Boeser

    Slavkovsky-Horvat-Forsberg

    Pearson-Dickinson-Podkolzin

    Deslauriers-Lammikko-Lockwood

    Highmore, Acciari

    OEL-Myers

    Hughes-Cernak

    Dermott-Schenn

    Hunt, Burroughs

    Demko-Martin

I took the Holtby and Virtanen buyouts into consideration as well.

Adds up to about 81.1 out of the projected 82.5 cap when using the upper ends of each contract I proposed.

I am also hesitant to include the 2023 1st, but I think Cernak would be worth it.
