[Elias Pettersson | #40 | C]

Hi everyone. It's been a VERY long time since I last posted anything but in light with what is happening with our top prospects as of late (in particular Elias Pettersson), I feel compelled to put my two cents in because we have some serious talent infusion coming sooner than later. As all of you, I have been blown away by what Elias Pettersson is doing in Sweden in the top league there. Needless to say, I am soooooo happy he is ours!! I have been watching the Canucks for 30 odd years now (wow I am getting old!) and the only other player that has passed through this organization that has demonstrated the puck domination and skillset young Elias clearly has ....is Bure. I would even go so far as to say Pettersson has a very Gretzkyesque type style to his game. He kind of looks like him out there sometimes, same type of slight build, same shiftiness Gretzky had to avoid hits, same kind of calm command and control with the puck, same type of vision where he sees the seams and open areas of ice before anyone else does, and his shot is so accurate. I have to say that I am in no way saying Pettersson is Gretzky 2 but I am saying I can see similarities in their style of play. This is a very good thing because he is only 18 and comparisons to Peter Forsberg are already popping up. He could be scary good. I am a little worried about the expectations Vancouver's hockey market will dump on him when he arrives but there is something about how he handles pressure that tells me he'll be just fine. This one is going to be a superstar, I have no doubt. JB definitely drafted the best player in the last draft and might have even nabbed us a generational player from a supposedly weak draft. I think Benning is putting together a fantastic collection of new young talent we should all be very excited about. I hope Aquillini is taking note and signs both Linden and Benning to extensions because the vision is materializing  quicker than I expected it to. Things are looking up in Canucks nation, finally !! 

[Nikolaj Ehlers]

Hi everyone. I haven't posted on here in quite some time due to CDC "madness" but just had to post here in support of the OP. This Ehlers .. I think he really is something special to be considered when it's our turn to draft at #6. His talent level and speed is off the charts and although I have only watched a few highlight compilations from this past season of his, I have to admit, he looks scary good. On the elite prospects website it says this about him:

-Ehlers is an explosive player who can beat even the quickest defensemen wide with his speed. He plays on his off wing and creates chances with sharp cuts to the middle comple- mented by an explosive wrister. He's equally good with the puck and can handle it both at top speed and in traffic.

This was a comment made from someone at Hockey News:

_An incredibly skilled forward, Ehlers makes plays at high speeds and doesn’t mind going to the tough areas in order to score. Scouts see him as an excellent complementary player and have even hesitantly brought up teammate Jonathan Drouin as a comparable, as lofty as that sounds. While playing for Biel last year, he even got to practise with locked-out NHL stars Tyler Seguin and Patrick Kane. And along with getting the Mooseheads back to the Memorial Cup for a title defense, Ehlers will be counted on at the world juniors next season with Denmark.

In the past 12 months or so, he helped the Danes get up to the top bracket at both the under-18s and the world juniors; an obvious point of pride for him."

...and last but not least here is what he supposedly is being compared to. I think we should take notice because we need top end skill on this team and not just a big body. We have some of those in our system already. WE NEED TALENT!! :

Draw your own conclusions but this kid just might be what the Canucks need starting a new era and also trying to bring fans back to Rogers arena. When is the last time you could say we had a truly exciting player. Bure ring a bell? This kid's pretty close.

Personally, I think Schroeder has a laser of a shot and I'd like to see him use it much more. I am aware he has great hockey sense and vision and creates opportunities for his linemates, but I'd sure like to see him use that shot of his more often. It's a true sniper shot. He'd bag more than a few if he'd use it. Yes, he IS a great setup guy but he's also a great scorer with a wicked shot. USE IT JORDAN!

hey, does anyone know what is happening in Manitoba concerning Schroeder? He's been awfully quiet on the stat sheet for some time now. I assume he's in a major slump at the moment. Anyone have current stats on him ?

He saying that because for most of his hockey career thus far, he has competed against and played with older players. He's not used to playing with players his own age. He's also played very well against older players. We'll see what happens.

Schroeder's gonna be a beauty ! I have said it before and I'll say it again, he is built like Theoren Fleury and I do believe he'll produce like him at the NHL level as well. Low centre of gravity makes it hard to move him off the puck. His legs are like tree trunks. He has great vision, is a great passer and can snipe as well. He has amazing offensive instincts and a hunger to make things happen. I really wouldn't be surprised to see him pushing for the Calder Tophy this coming year. My point prediction is 62. I know it might sound too high but I really think he's ready to compete with men in the NHL and he will turn heads.
