  1. I had my reservations about picking Virtanen this high, but now that he's a Canuck, you won't hear anything bad about this kid from me. Excited to see if Jake can achieve his potential--if he does, he'll be a special player and we'll look back on this as a big draft day steal. He has a chance to be a true impact player and a star in this league. From here on out, I'll be cheering hard for him to make it.

Exactly. He's a Canuck now whether people are happy about it or not. How about everyone stop complaining and start rooting for this kid to do well?

It's like looking at the proverbial glass filled halfway: is it half full? Or half empty?

I'm going to think it's half full. -_-

  2. Just listening to HNIC (Montreal/Toronto game) - Grapes says Vancouver will 'be alright' (re: slump) and expects Vancouver to be in the finals?!

*howls* Well, I and every Canuck fan would LOVE that - but doubt it this year.

As for this game? Praying for a win tonight - 4-2 Canuck win; if not, expect a 3-1 loss.

  3. This has been something that has been prominent in the Canucks game this year - unable to hold onto leads. This game, obviously, was the most glaring of examples. :picard:

This team is playing themselves out of a playoff spot. And at this point? I kind of hope they do. They don't have the firepower to beat elite teams (Pitts, Chicago, Ana or SJ) - they just don't have it this year. Injuries are partly to blame. The rest? The players are just beating themselves. Mental gaffs that shouldn't happen, lazy defense, absolutely no clutch in our forwards this year. Top down, it's disappointing. Call it an off year, whatever, this team is not going to win Stanley this year - it's not happening. I'd rather get a higher draft pick this year than watch us get our butts handed to us and sent to the golf course in 4 or 5 games in the first round - for the third straight year.

    Some positives:

    - Kassian has looked great this game - goal (and an assist, I believe). He's making use of the injuries to his team and getting his chance to make a case for himself why he should be playing in a top 6 position.

    - Hansen had a strong game; He's much better suited to the third line and it shows. Good passes tonight.

    - Higgins also looked to have a good game - a bounce back from the flu.

    - Tanev: he and Hamhuis are consistently our best defensemen out there. Glad he's doing well this year.

Other than that, the last 5 minutes were brutal to watch. :picard:

  4. Hodgson v2 haha

MG did the right thing not assuring him of ice time, you just don't build a winning team by sucking up to unproven prospects because that just sends a wrong message to all of the other prospects and the organization.

We should respect MG for keeping the team culture and philosphy intact, this kid clearly was after ice time from playing too much NHL. Come on he turned down the Wings, Canucks just for playing time...What does that show? He throws away his favourite team, the team that drafted him, contending teams just for his own personal glory.

MG probably did not go hard after him because throwing away the team that drafted you showed his character. And MG likes players with good character...the intangibles.

Again, well thought out and well said.

  5. You have to understand the thinking of a 21 year old. It's not a reflection on the Canucks organization. As a 21 year old, would you prefer to join a group full of other early 20`s, who hang out together, share apartments, goof together in the dressing room.. or a group of mostly veterans who have families, nice guys, but a different generation, you know, the sedins, hamhuis, bieksa, salo, malhotra, burrows, higgins..I mean the bulk of the team is veterans. There is no way it`s the same dynamics in both rooms.

Well said. He's 21 years old. A sad part of the current generation, is that they want things right now, not later or to earn them. Can't say that about everyone in this generation, but it's known for it. As you said, would he rather be with people his own age, or go to a team where most are anywhere from 6 to 12 years older than him.

Wish him the best - Maybe he'll develop into a really good player - maybe he won't. Only time will tell.
