  1. Bought it for my youngest brother (11 years old) for his birthday cause it was $10 at walmart and i'd heard great things about it. We ended up playing it 7 hours straight.

It's a riot. Anyone who wants to know, watch JoshJepson and SuperJeenius playing it on youtube. You will be enlightened.

  2. ok, sorry, FPS and TPS, my bad.

to be fair, i enjoy the occasional FPS TPS as much as anyone (Metroid prime and Other M respectively) but for me (opinion) the Mario franchise usually delivers a much more polished and fun experience than anything I've experienced on any other console.

Assassin's Creed is quite good and quite fun, although most of that list is shooters of some sort (Borderlands 2 is definitely a FPS, as the developers said the priority in development was to make it a FPS first and foremost).

I'm playing Rayman Origins on 360 right now, which I consider to be good competition for NSMB. I enjoy Final Fantasy XIII as a game, not so much as an RPG or story, but as a game that you play at least with great cinematics (PS: the battle system is about efficiency, not just mere survival).

Also, in the spirit of fairness, Halo 4 is pretty good. I like it the same way I like Cowboy Bebop english dubbed instead of subbed; despite the fact that most people will develop untrue ideas about how my tastes lack "culture."

All that being said, Mario is fantastic and I spent a few hours today on Galaxy 2 and a little more on Kart Wii (but only because I couldn't get Forza 4 :P).

  3. Go to NCIX and you can put together a half decent gaming rig for under a grand that wont need an upgrade for a couple years. The problem is most people spend a lot on things that dont matter much to a gaming rig which is just about everything besides the Vid card. Example: Does the game care if your using a i3 or i7 processor? No it makes no difference but people will pay more than twice as much for that i7 anyways...

Very true. Although getting a good Motherboard is essential if you intend to upgrade. I don't really consider my computer a "gaming" computer but more a swiss army knife due to the 3570k.

If you want to build a computer just for gaming, you're going to want to start with the video card and an SSD. If you're like me and you want to render video/3d models, run buttloads of programs and do other CPU intensive functions, you really have to think about where CPU spending ends and Vid-Card spending begins.

  4. I built my "gaming" computer at NCIX a year ago for about $650 and it runs every game on high with no stuttering so I'm not sure what you guys mean by needing to spend 1k. That being said I will probably have to upgrade the video card in a year or two, but still...

Dude, can you list the specs? I'm curious.

  5. Also about "terrible spending habits" I disagree.

$499 for the console on release day

$60 for an additonal controller for your kids (if you had kids, or for a sibling, friends who come over)

$60 for a game, no point in a console without the games

$60 for 12 months live (PS3 released about $50 more than e 360 so evens out)

    Total $679

    12% tax

New total = $760.48 (rough estimates)

So not totally far fetched and "terrible spending habits" its what you had to pay if you were wanting the console when it came out.

Fair enough. My approach to buying expensive equipment is different (I'm a gaming enthusiast, no kids, I play online with friends who also own consoles so I don't usually splitscreen when I'm visiting in person) so my needs are different. One game could last me quite a while until I decided it's time to get something new. My main concern was that people were starting to think that launch price for the console itself was $800 because it was getting thrown around in that fashion.

  6. LOL, $800.

Yeah, I'll stick to my PC.

I paid twice that for my PC. Also, read: OP came up with the figure "$800" on their own. They assumed launch price to be $499, in line with the previous generation and assumed the buyer to have terrible spending habits, buying literally everything related to the console that they possibly could right on launch day. Yes, that will add up to $800. OTOH, the only figure we've seen from a legitimate source is $299 which will obviously be less than what it actually is. But they can't say, "Ah, we were thinking of charging $299, but nah, we decided to go with $799. Economic disparity, y'know?"

  7. Also, as long as we're speculating, I doubt we'll be paying $800 at launch even if our self-destructive natures compel us to buy stupidly expensive accessories and more games than we can afford (for the record, I would recommend just...just not doing that if you want to save a bit of money).

That leaked document we mentioned earlier mentions a $299 (£190) price point which sounded gloriously ambitious to us. Expect it to cost a bit more than that but assuming the PS4 launches around the same time, expect some competitive pricing.

  8. Xbox is wanting to push Kinect further in the new console.

Ugh... Kinect hasn't brought anything to the table I care about. So hyped, yet so pointless. I had a 360 for most of gen 7, but if I ever buy a gen 8 console it will be from Sony.

In the meantime, my PC will last me a very long time...and there's always SNES.

  9. once you max out the sphere grid your characters are ridiculously over powered. I can take down nemesis with a single character. I guess there's still some challenges in the PAL version, but in the NA version there's nothing to match a filled out sphere grid

Unfortunately, mine is NA. Ah well... Just picked up Radiant Historia, of which I have heard nothing but good. I will report with my findings.

  10. yeah I maxed my crystarium everytime a new section was unlocked, was lots of delicious grinding lol. but it was nothing compared to maxing the sphere grid in ffx. ???? luck spheres

I'm glad it caps you out, honestly. I regretted my decision pretty quickly. Made Oerba and it's still too easy. Next time I'll probably just grind up the secondary roles and invest in the primaries by doing missions. I think I'm gonna save the Sphere Grid grinding for the FFX aftergame.

  11. I must enjoy self-destruction because Final Fantasy XIII has emerged as my current addiction. Does anyone actually exp-grind here? I never have until yesterday, and all because I wanted to expand into secondary roles early on in the game for fun (and by fun I mean teaching the characters with the lowest HP all the tank skills)...mostly linear gameplay and monotonous grinding...yeah...this is the life...

  12. I've played through Earthbound multiple times. I'm willing to bet other people here have done the same. Although I wasn't aware there was a Mother 3 translation out there.

Yeah, you have to patch a Japanese Mother 3 ROM. I'm sure everyone knows the laws around ROMs, and if not, can look it up. If you search "Mother 3 English" in google, the first result is the place where you can download a legitimate patch app legally and for free.

  13. Final Fantasy XIII and X, Borderlands 2, Mother 3 Fan Translation (<- unexpected awesome; I've never played a Mother game before) and I really really really want Dishonored.

Edit: Wow, I searched the whole gaming section for "Mother 3" and apparently this is the first post ever of all time to mention it. C'mon people! Whoever's into any handheld RPGs... old FF games or even Pokemon... go check it out. Totally worth it.
